The Buffalo Bills released wide receivers Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes on Tuesday, according to sources. Benjamin just hasn't worked out for Buffalo and lacked effort for most of the season, catching only 23 passes on 62 targets for 354 yards and one touchdown this year. The former first-round pick of the Panthers has been a bust in the NFL. Holmes had just 12 catches for 157 yards and wasn't a fantasy factor. With both Benjamin and Holmes now out of the picture, Zay Jones, who caught two touchdowns in Week 13, is now the unquestioned No. 1 wideout for this team. Rookies Robert Foster and Ray-Ray McCloud and Deonte Thompson will fight for scraps behind him.
Travaris Cadet, Andre Holmes Land On Injured Reserve
Buffalo Bills running back Travaris Cadet (ankle) and wide receiver Andre Holmes (neck) were placed on Injured Reserve on Tuesday, ending their season. In a corresponding move, the team waived defensive tackle Deandre Coleman. Holmes was a non-factor in 2017, catching just 13 passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games. Cadet suffered a gruesome dislocated ankle in Week 16 after rushing for 96 yards on 23 carries in nine games in 2017. Mike Tolbert should finish out the year as running back LeSean McCoy's main backup.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Holmes hauled in three of four targets for a total of 51 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 against the Raiders. It was Holmes' third touchdown catch of the season, despite the fact that he has just 11 catches on the entire season. The four targets he saw this week were tied for his most of the season, with the other occasion coming in Week 2 against the Panthers. Prior to this week, he had failed to top 18 yards in a single game. That said, despite leading the team in receiving touchdowns, volume makes it impossible to consider Holmes in any fantasy format or in any matchup.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Holmes caught his second touchdown of the season in the Buffalo Bills Week 3 26-16 win over the Denver Broncos. Holmes was targeted just twice on the afternoon but converted both into catches for six yards and a touchdown. This performance is indicative of Holmes' role in the Bills' offense as he has just seven targets over three games this season. Thus, despite his apparent ability to find the end zone, it is difficult to trust Holmes in any kind of format as he has limited value even when he finds the end zone and no value when he does not. That said, Holmes should be passed over on the waiver wire.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Holmes is standing out the most in offseason practices, although "it's early." Holmes is also leading some of the positional drills with the first-team offense and has impressed head coach Sean McDermott. Buffalo certainly needs a receiver to step up across the injury-prone Sammy Watkins, especially since rookie Zay Jones is already dealing with injuries. Holmes has never had more than 47 catches or four touchdowns in a season, but he deserves watching this summer in deeper leagues.
Buffalo's on again, off again courtship of Holmes was finally consummated yesterday, as they signed the 28-year old WR to a three-year deal. Buffalo let Robert Woods go in free agency, and Holmes has a shot to replace him as the starter across from Sammy Watkins. Holmes showed some promise in 2014, hauling in 47 catches for 693 yards and four TDs, but has just 28 catches in the two seasons since. Holmes isn't a breakout candidate by any means, but could have occasional value if Watkins misses time due to injury, which is a definite possibility.
