Earl Thomas III News

Ravens Defense Will Have Earl Thomas Against Patriots

Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas (knee), who didn't practice on Wednesday, said he will play on Sunday night against the Patriots in Week 9. Baltimore's defense has underwhelmed to this point, but their secondary should be better moving forward with the addition of cornerback Marcus Peters. Along with Thomas and shutdown corner Marlon Humphrey, the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady will be facing their toughest test yet in the 2019, on the road in a hostile environment no less. Until we see more consistent results from Baltimore's defense/special teams, though, they should be avoided in fantasy.

Earl Thomas To Sign With Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens will sign free-agent safety Earl Thomas to a four-year, $55 million deal on Wednesday, a source informed of the deal told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal includes $32 million guaranteed and averages $14.33 million over the first three years. Thomas, who will be 30 in May, played in only four games in 2018 due to a broken leg, but he'll bring veteran leadership to a Ravens defense that has already lost several key players to free agency. The former first-rounder has 664 tackles, 28 interceptions and 68 passes defensed since 2010.

Earl Thomas To Have Surgery This Week

Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas (leg) will have surgery to have a rod inserted into his broken leg this week, according to a source. The rod will increase the chances of healing and lower the refracture rate. Thomas should be 100 percent before free agency kicks off. With Thomas and Seattle at odds over a contract extension, he's fully expected to be playing elsewhere in 2019. The veteran defensive back has remained productive when healthy.
