The Atlanta Falcons are signing former San Francisco 49ers pass-rusher Leonard Floyd on Tuesday to a one-year deal worth $10 million, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. After being released by the 49ers on Tuesday, Floyd will come home, as he went to the University of Georgia and is a Chauncey, Georgia, native. The 32-year-old veteran joins a Falcons team that is in desperate need of a pass rush after they ranked near the bottom of the league in sacks in 2024. Floyd, the former ninth overall pick by the Chicago Bears in 2016, has at least 8.5 sacks in each of the last five seasons, including double-digit sacks twice. He has also played in at least 16 games in each year since 2018. Over the last five seasons, Floyd has totaled 48 sacks in 84 games (83 starts), so it's a big addition to Atlanta's D-line. In his lone season in San Fran in 2024, Floyd had 42 tackles, 8.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss in 17 starts.
The San Francisco 49ers are releasing defensive end Leonard Floyd, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The former No. 9 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Georgia by the Chicago Bears appeared in 17 games for the Niners last season and totaled 42 tackles, 8.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and 7.5 run stuffs. The 32-year-old has registered at least 8.5 sacks in each of the last five seasons with San Francisco, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Buffalo Bills. Edge rusher depth and production is valuable and sought after in the NFL, so expect the veteran to draw interest on the open free-agent market.
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Leonard Floyd (knee) was seen at practice on Wednesday. Floyd was labeled day-to-day after injuring his right knee in last Friday's preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders in the first quarter when a teammate landed on his leg. Floyd avoided a serious injury, though, and should be fine for the Week 1 regular-season finale on Monday, Sept. 9, against the New York Jets. The 31-year-old specialized in pass-rushing in his lone season with the Buffalo Bills in 2023, which led to a career-high 10.5 sacks, but he also recorded a career-low 32 tackles (21 solo) in 17 regular-season games (16 starts). The former ninth overall pick by the Chicago Bears in 2016 out of Georgia has had at least nine sacks in each of the last four seasons and should be pretty productive again in 2024 for a strong 49ers defense across from All-Pro Nick Bosa.
The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent defensive end Leonard Floyd to a two-year, $20 million deal on Monday worth up to $24 million, according to a source. Floyd will receive $12 million guaranteed in the first year of the deal in 2024 and will give the Niners some much-needed pass-rush help alongside All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa. The 31-year-old former ninth overall pick by the Chicago Bears in 2016 out of Georgia had double-digit sacks (10.5) for the second time in his career in 2023 with the Buffalo Bills and also added 32 tackles (21 solo), nine tackles for loss, 19 QB hits and a forced fumble in 17 regular-season games (16 starts). Floyd isn't all that trustworthy in IDP fantasy formats, but he's been extremely durable and hasn't missed a game in the last six seasons.
The Buffalo Bills signed free-agent linebacker Leonard Floyd to an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday, according to sources. Floyd was originally the ninth overall pick of the Chicago Bears in 2016 out of Georgia. He spent the first four years of his career in Chicago before playing for the Los Angeles Rams the last three seasons, where he totaled 29 sacks and 99 solo tackles in 50 starts. The move to sign Floyd reunites him with Von Miller. The two pass-rushers combined for six sacks in the playoffs on their way to a Super Bowl title with the Rams two seasons ago. Floyd will bring more experience depth to an already impressive pass-rushing group in Buffalo, and he hasn't missed a regular season game since 2017.
The Los Angeles Rams are planning to release outside linebacker Leonard Floyd on Friday, according to a source. The move was expected as the Rams continue to shed salary in 2023. Floyd finished his third year with the Rams in 2022 with 59 tackles (31 solo), nine sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 22 QB hits and a fumble recovery in 17 starts. The 30-year-old former first-round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2016 has recorded 99 solo tackles, 29 sacks, 28 tackles for loss, 59 QB hits, an interception, four passes defensed, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 50 starts over the last three seasons with LA, so he should have plenty of interest on the open market.
The Los Angeles Rams are expected to release outside linebacker Leonard Floyd if they can't trade him first, according to league sources. Floyd has had at least nine sacks in each of the last three seasons, so he'll generate plenty of interest on the open market if he makes it there this offseason. The 30-year-old has been with the Rams the last three years and was an integral part of their nasty defense in their Super Bowl run in 2021. He finished with nine sacks, 59 tackles (31 solo), 10 tackles for loss, 22 QB hits and a fumble recovery in 17 starts for the Rams last year. Floyd has been extremely durable as well and has missed just one game in the last five seasons.
Los Angeles Rams linebacker Leonard Floyd (ankle) said that he had offseason surgery to clean up a right ankle injury that he suffered in training camp last summer. Floyd managed the ankle injury all of last year while recording 11.5 sacks (9.5 in the regular season). He's almost back to full health. The 29-year-old pass-rusher also had a career-high 70 tackles (37 solo), seven tackles for loss, 18 QB hits, one interception, three passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 17 regular season starts for the Rams in 2021. Floyd hasn't missed a regular season game in the last four years, making him a dependable defender for a strong Rams defense.
The Los Angeles Rams are signing former Chicago Bears pass-rusher Leonard Floyd to a one-year, $10 million deal on Wednesday, according to a source. The deal could be worth up to $13 million with incentives. Floyd was a bust for Chicago after they took him ninth overall in the 2016 draft. The 27-year-old had 153 combined tackles (108 solo), 18.5 sacks and 44 QB hits in his four seasons with the Bears. He had a career-low three sacks, 40 tackles (27 solo), three tackles for loss, 12 QB hits and one pass defensed in a full season last year. The Rams are hoping a change of scenery will help the former first-round pick become more productive.
Chicago Bears linebacker Leonard Floyd (knee) saw work in 7-on-7 drills during organized team activities this week, and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said Floyd remains on target to be a full participant for training camp in July. I think it delayed his development more last year when it happened, Fangio said of the freak knee injury that occurred on a collision with cornerback Kyle Fuller. Theres no way around that. Everyone needs as many reps in practice as they can get, and hes really anxious to do it. He has been begging the trainers and medical people to let him out there a little earlier. I think hell overcome it. Floyd has played in just 22 games in his first two seasons in the NFL and has recorded 11.5 sacks and 67 tackles in that time. A healthy return of Floyd is much needed in order for Chicago to put up a consistent pass rush in 2018.
