Saints Bring In Kenny Stills And Marqise Lee For Workouts
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network has reported that the New Orleans Saints worked out a group of wide receivers on Monday that includes veterans Kenny Stills and Marqise Lee. The Saints blew out the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, but the club seems to be doing their due diligence with No. 1 wide receiver Michael Thomas (ankle) on the PUP list and No. 2 wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (hamstring) on Injured Reserve. Stills started his career with the Saints in 2013 and played two years in Sean Payton's system. Most recently, Stills played in 10 games and caught 11 of his 19 targets for 144 yards for the Houston Texans. Lee spent five years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but has suffered a string of bad injuries, that includes a torn ACL in 2018. Lee hasn't suited up in a NFL since 2019, but has bounced around training camps with the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers over the past two offseasons. Even if the Saints sign Lee and/or Stills, both can be avoided in all formats.
The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent wide receiver Bennie Fowler to an undisclosed one-year deal on Friday. In a corresponding move, the Niners waived wide receiver Marqise Lee less than a week after signing him. Fowler has played for the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and New Orleans Saints in his seven years in the NFL. In total, he has 97 receptions for 1,101 yards and six touchdowns in 68 total games (12 starts). His best season came in 2017 with Denver, when he had 29 catches on 56 targets for 350 yards and three scores in 16 games (four starts). In five games with the Saints last year, Fowler had two catches for 11 yards in five games before landing on the Injured Reserve in late October. He will battle for a roster spot as receiver depth in training camp.
Former Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots wide receiver Marqise Lee is signing an undisclosed deal with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, according to a source. Lee spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with Jacksonville after they selected him in the second round out of USC in 2014. The 29-year-old opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19, so he never actually played a game with the Patriots. Lee hasn't played in a full season since 2017, but he'll have a real chance to make the Niners roster this summer if he can stay healthy. He dealt with injuries in 2018 and 2019 and played a combined six games those two years. In 59 career games (30 starts) with Jacksonville, Lee had 174 catches for 2,184 yards and eight touchdowns. He'll be hoping to provide some depth behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk and will compete with the likes of Mohamed Sanu, Richie James, Trent Sherfield and Jalen Hurd.
New England Patriots wide receiver Marqise Lee says that he's ready to get back on the field and play in 2020. Lee missed all of the 2018 season and played in just six games last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 28-year-old suffered a season-ending shoulder injury that landed him on the injured reserve. "I feel like I haven't played in the last couple years. I'm just ready to get at it," says Lee. He just wants to get back on the field and contribute for his team. "I'm the type of person, just try to get everything in which the team needs me to do," Lee said. The Patriots have some options at wide receiver, but Lee could sneak his way into significant playing time, assuming he's able to stay healthy. Fantasy owners shouldn't put too much stock in a player that has played six games in two years.
Free-agent wide receiver Marqise Lee has agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with the New England Patriots on Thursday. Lee posted two back-to-back strong campaigns before missing all of the 2018 season with a torn ACL. He played in only six games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, but he is solid depth for the Pats. New England has Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu Sr. and N'Keal Harry, so Lee will be fighting for his position on the depth chart in training camp and won't be one to target in most fantasy drafts this fall.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are releasing wide receiver Marqise Lee on Monday, according to a source. Lee, who missed all of the 2018 season with a torn ACL, is fully healthy and completely cleared medically. Jacksonville's receivers are now D.J. Chark, Dede Westbrook, Keelan Cole and Chris Conley, and they have a chance to select a wideout with a prime pick in the first round of this week's draft as well. Lee was due $7 million in 2020 in salary and per-game roster bonuses and played in just six games (one start) in 2019 for the Jaguars. The former second-round pick in 2014 should latch on elsewhere but can be ignored in most fantasy leagues as he attempts a comeback.
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee (shoulder) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, which will end his season. Lee didn't receive a lot of attention, but his departure could open up more for Keelan Cole, who has just four catches for 33 yards this season. However, he has scored touchdowns in consecutive weeks. Cole is a distant third option behind D.J. Chark and Dede Westbrook, but he's worth the speculative waiver claim for depth.
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee (ankle) and tight end Geoff Swaim (ankle, concussion) have both been ruled out for Week 7 against the Bengals. Neither Lee nor Swaim have moved the fantasy needle this year for the Jaguars offense. If Dede Westbrook can't give it a go, it'll be either C.J. Board or Keelan Cole as the team's No. 3 wideout behind D.J. Chark and Chris Conley on Sunday. With James O'Shaughnessy on Injured Reserve, rookie Josh Oliver will become the team's primary tight end if he can make his season debut. Stay away from the tight end position in Jacksonville, however.
Dede Westbrook, Marqise Lee, Geoff Swaim Not Practicing
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receivers Dede Westbrook (shoulder) and Marqise Lee (ankle) and tight end Geoff Swaim (ankle, concussion) will all sit out of practice on Thursday. Westbrook has a nice matchup in a Bengals team likely to be missing their top cornerbacks this weekend, but he might be questionable to suit up. If he plays, he'll have clear WR2 upside. If he sits out, D.J. Chark and Chris Conley will be more involved in the passing attack. Lee and Swaim were both injured in Week 6. Neither player has been very involved in the offense up to this point and can remain on waiver wires.
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee (knee) was a full participant in practice on Tuesday after being limited on Monday. Lee sat out of the Week 2 loss against the Texans, but it looks like he's on track to return on Thursday in a matchup with the Titans. Behind Dede Westbrook, D.J. Chark and Chris Conley with backup rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew at the helm, Lee can be left to the waiver wire in most leagues.
