The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent wide receiver Bennie Fowler to an undisclosed one-year deal on Friday. In a corresponding move, the Niners waived wide receiver Marqise Lee less than a week after signing him. Fowler has played for the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and New Orleans Saints in his seven years in the NFL. In total, he has 97 receptions for 1,101 yards and six touchdowns in 68 total games (12 starts). His best season came in 2017 with Denver, when he had 29 catches on 56 targets for 350 yards and three scores in 16 games (four starts). In five games with the Saints last year, Fowler had two catches for 11 yards in five games before landing on the Injured Reserve in late October. He will battle for a roster spot as receiver depth in training camp.
New York Giants wide receiver Bennie Fowler caught three passes for 22 yards on Monday night. Almost all of this was in garbage time, so theres nothing much to read into this. Hes not rosterable in any size league.
The New York Giants released wide receivers Bennie Fowler and T.J. Jones on Tuesday in order to make room for wide receiver Golden Tate on the active roster. Linebacker Josiah Tauaefa was also signed off the practice squad. Tate will be active for the first time this year in Week 5 against the Vikings after serving his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. The G-Men will move forward with Sterling Shepard, Tate, Cody Latimer and rookie Darius Slayton as their top four wideouts.
New York Giants wide receivers Cody Latimer (concussion) and Bennie Fowler (hamstring) were both limited in practice on Wednesday. Latimer missed the Week 3 contest while Fowler was injured in the win over the Buccaneers. Both wideouts have a shot at playing this Sunday against the Redskins. However, even with star running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) sidelined, the return of Sterling Shepard makes both Latimer and Fowler unappealing starting fantasy options. Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones looked good in his NFL debut last week, but things will get more difficult without Barkley in the backfield. Shepard and tight end Evan Engram will remain Jones' top targets.
New York Giants wide receiver Cody Latimer (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 3 against the Buccaneers, while wideout Bennie Fowler (hamstring) is listed as questionable. New York's receiving corps continues to limp to action, but the good news is that Sterling Shepard (concussion) returned to a full practice Thursday and is on track to return for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones' NFL debut. Fowler was injured in practice this week and won't be a recommended fantasy option even if he plays. Shepard will be a risky volume-based WR4/flex in his return.
New York Giants wide receiver Bennie Fowler (hamstring) "tweaked" his hamstring in practice on Wednesday, but the Giants are "hopeful" that he will play in Week 3 against the Buccaneers, according to head coach Pat Shurmur. The goods news is that Sterling Shepard (concussion) has a chance to return this Sunday, but Cody Latimer (concussion) may be doubtful. If both Fowler and Latimer are out, it would mainly be T.J. Jones alongside Shepard in the passing game for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones' debut. Fowler shouldn't be started even if he suits up, and Shepard would be a risky WR4/flex.
Bennie Fowler Emerges As Leading Receiver For Giants
New York Giants wide receiver Bennie Fowler led the team in receiving yards on Sunday, finishing with five catches for 51 yards on a team-leading 10 targets. As expected, the slot receiver was able to take advantage of the Bills being without nickel cornerback Taron Johnson, but he also left yards on the field with some dropped passes. Fowler will continue to have value in PPR leagues until Golden Tate comes back, but he's not likely to be rosterable after that.
New York Giants slot receiver Bennie Fowler could have sneaky value on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. Bills nickel cornerback Taron Johnson hurt his hamstring during last weeks game, and Jamison Crowder went wild, catching 17 passes in the slot -- 10 of them after Johnson exited the game. If Johnson isnt able to go or is it at all hampered by his hamstring injury, the Giants would be smart to attack the middle of the Bills Defense, making Fowler an interesting dart throw in deep PPR leagues or for DFS purposes.
Bennie Fowler Could Provide Value With Golden Tate Out
New York Giants wide receiver Bennie Fowler is likely to start in the slot in Week 1 with Golden Tate beginning his four-game suspension. The Cowboys pass rush, led by DeMarcus Lawrence and newly-signed Robert Quinn, is likely to be in quarterbackEli Mannings face often on Sunday. Additionally, both tight endEvan Engram and receiverSterling Shepard have tough matchups, and if Manning doesnt have a lot of time to throw, he might be looking to dump off to Fowler or running back Saquon Barkley on short routes. If Fowler is able to rack up enough of those, he could be valuable in deep PPR leagues or DFS games as a budget wide receiver option.
The New England Patriots cut wide receiver Bennie Fowler on Saturday, according to a source. Offensive tackle Cole Croston was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move. This is a sign that right tackle Marcus Cannon will not be able to play in Week 2 against the Jaguars.
