Ross Dwelley Lands With Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons signed free-agent tight end Ross Dwelley on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Dwelley was undrafted out of the University of San Diego in 2018, but he stuck around on the San Francisco 49ers' roster for six seasons and played in 84 games. Overall, the 29-year-old has 44 receptions for 518 yards and five receiving touchdowns to his name. He'll look to compete with Charlie Woerner and John FitzPatrick to see the field in multi-tight end sets and to be Kyle Pitts' direct backup in 2024. For now, he's nowhere near the fantasy football radar heading into his seventh NFL campaign.

Ross Dwelley Ruled Out For Week 18

San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley (ankle) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for the Week 18 regular season finale on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Dwelley has not seen the field since Week 13 and will be held out of the regular season finale with the Niners having already locked up the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC and a first-round bye for the playoffs. The 28-year-old has just one reception all year for 12 yards on two targets. San Fran is going to rest a lot of players in this meaningless game, so fantasy managers should stay away from tight end George Kittle. Charlie Woerner and Brayden Willis should see most of the action at the position for the 49ers against LA, but neither of them will be recommended DFS dart throws.

Jauan Jennings, Ross Dwelley Miss First Practice In Week 16

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (concussion) and tight end Ross Dwelley (ankle) were both held out of practice on Thursday. Jennings' status is seriously up in the air for Monday's Christmas night game against the Baltimore Ravens after he suffered a concussion in the Week 15 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The 26-year-old does have two more days to get back to practice, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he's held out in Week 16. If he can't clear the concussion protocols, rookie Ronnie Bell and Chris Conley would battle for the No. 3 receiver job in San Fran behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Dwelley is completely off the fantasy radar as the team's third-string TE. He's also missed the last two games and is on track to miss another.

Elijah Mitchell, Ross Dwelley Ruled Out For 49ers

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) and tight end Ross Dwelley (ankle) have both been ruled out for Sunday's contest versus the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15. Mitchell will now sit out his second straight game. Jordan Mason had an expanded role in San Fran's backfield with Mitchell out in the Week 14 win over the Seattle Seahawks and even punched in a three-yard touchdown for his third rushing score of the season. However, Mason played only 11 percent of the offensive snaps and just isn't going to see much action behind workhorse Christian McCaffrey to warrant a starting spot in fantasy lineups. The 25-year-old Mitchell will now rest up and hope to return for a Week 16 showdown in San Fran against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ross Dwelley Won't Play In Week 14

San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley (ankle) is ruled out for Sunday's NFC West showdown with the Seahawks. The 28-year-old sustained a high-ankle sprain in the win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13, so his absence will likely extend beyond Sunday. That said, there aren't many fantasy managers who will be upset with the latest update on Dwelley, considering he has just one catch all year.

Ross Dwelley Catches Touchdown On Deflection

San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley caught three passes for 18 yards and a touchdown on four targets in Sunday's preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. With starter George Kittle a healthy scratch, Dwelley was in line for more snaps and performed well. The touchdown pass he caught was actually intended for wide receiver Chris Conley and should have been intercepted, but it bounced off a Raider defender right to Dwelley. Heads-up play aside, Dwelley is off the fantasy radar as long as Kittle is healthy.

Ross Dwelley Inactive In Week 16

San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley is inactive for Saturday's meeting with the Washington Commanders. George Kittle, Tyler Kroft, and Charlie Woerner are all in the lineup in Week 16, so Dwelley's designation is hardly a surprise. Considering he has only three catches and one touchdown this season, he wouldn't have seen much action even if he were in uniform.

Ross Dwelley Questionable For Monday Night Football

San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley (rib) is questionable for the Monday Night Football showdown against the Rams. Tyler Kroft (knee) has already been ruled out with an MCL sprain, his second consecutive absence. As a result, the Niners may be down to George Kittle and Charlie Woerner to handle things at the tight end position. With that said, no matter who is available, Kittle is by far the No. 1 guy for fantasy purposes.

Ross Dwelley Leads 49ers In Receiving

San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley led the team with three catches for 42 yards in Thursday's 17-0 loss to the Houston Texas in the preseason finale. The 27-year-old was targeted three times, including on a 30-yard dime from backup QB Brock Purdy he caught and held onto after taking a hit over the middle of the field. While the veteran tight end has made some plays in the preseason, Dwelley does not have fantasy value in 2022. He is essential for the 49ers blocking schemes, however. He occasionally works from the backfield as a fullback, filling in as the starting fullback when Kyle Juszczyk missed four games in 2019. Dwelley will look to contribute to the 49ers' offense in the regular season opener against the Bears on September 12.

Ross Dwelley Sliding Down The Depth Chart

At the start of last season, San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley was the clear No. 2 behind George Kittle, but by the end of the year, Charlie Woerner had clearly supplanted Dwelley. Woerner played 47 offensive snaps in three playoff games to Dwelley's zero, and he also became a stalwart on special teams. With that said, it's a safe bet that Woerner will enter 2022 as the primary backup to Kittle. Dwelley's versatility has been valuable in recent years, but others like Tanner Hudson and Jordan Matthews might be better options in the passing game as the No. 3. Veterans Troy Fumagalli and Tyler Kroft are bigger and might be better blockers.
