Calvin Pickard Starts Game 5 for Oilers

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard will start Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers on Saturday. The Oilers are making another switch in the crease after Stuart Skinner was torched in the first period of Game 4. Skinner has made 12 consecutive starts. However, Edmonton has also received outstanding goaltending from Pickard during the postseason and will give him another shot as a starter on Saturday night. Pickard is 7-0 in the playoffs, having allowed 2.69 goals with a .896 save percentage. Only two goalies in franchise history -- Grant Fuhr and Bill Ranford -- have remained undefeated for more games during a postseason campaign.

Calvin Pickard Joins Exclusive List with Thursday's Win

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard maintained his perfect record this postseason in Thursday's 5-4 overtime win against the Florida Panthers, improving to 7-0 with a relief effort. The Panthers chased Stuart Skinner in the first period, putting three pucks past him with 17 shots. Edmonton was in big trouble but managed to produce an impressive comeback victory, with Pickard allowing only one goal on 23 shots. The 33-year-old became the sixth netminder in history to win a Stanley Cup Finals game in relief. He is the fourth Oilers goaltender to win seven straight decisions in a postseason. It seems likely that Pickard will have the opportunity to extend his streak as a starter in Game 5.

Calvin Pickard Dresses as Backup Tuesday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard (lower body) has been cleared to rejoin the lineup on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars. He will serve as Stuart Skinner's backup in the contest. Pickard has been out for six games due to a lower-body injury. When Skinner struggled at the start of the postseason, Pickard saved Edmonton's bacon by going 6-0 with a 2.84 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage. Recently, Skinner has significantly improved his performance, posting three shutouts in five games, which makes it challenging for Pickard to get another opportunity in the crease.

Calvin Pickard May Return to Oilers Lineup Tuesday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard (lower body) practiced on Monday and could be an option to rejoin the lineup for Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. The 33-year-old, who played a crucial role for the Oilers early in the playoffs with a six-game winning streak, has been unavailable for six games. Fortunately for Edmonton, Stuart Skinner has been outstanding during Pickard's absence, winning four of his last five starts and posting a 1.18 goals-against average with three shutouts since May 12. Skinner has firmly re-established himself as the No. 1 in the crease for the Oilers, while Pickard's return to health would give the team a solid backup option.

Calvin Pickard to Miss Start of Conference Finals

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard (lower body) will not be ready to rejoin the action for the start of the Western Conference Finals. "Probably not when the series starts, but I would think probably sometime in the same timeline as (Mattias) Ekholm, sometime during the series," Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch said about Pickard on Friday. "Certainly not Game 1, but sometime in the middle." Pickard, who boasts a perfect 6-0 record in the playoffs, has missed three games with a lower-body injury. Initially, Pickard's injury left Edmonton in a difficult position, as Stuart Skinner struggled badly during the beginning of the postseason. However, Skinner closed out the second round against the Vegas Golden Knights with back-to-back shutouts and must be full of confidence heading into the West Finals.

Calvin Pickard Not Expected To Return In Round 2

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard (undisclosed) is expected to miss the rest of the second-round series against the Vegas Golden Knights. He was injured in Game 2 of the series and has been unavailable for two games. Pickard won each of his first six playoff starts before being knocked out of the lineup by injury. Stuart Skinner will continue to hold down the fort in Pickard's absence. It was an ugly start to the postseason for Skinner, who allowed 15 goals over his first three starts, but the 28-year-old bounced back in style on Monday night, posting a 23-save shutout in a 3-0 win.

Calvin Pickard Misses Game 3 Against Golden Knights

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard (undisclosed) will miss Saturday's Game 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights and is considered day-to-day. Stuart Skinner will start the game in his place. Losing Pickard is a significant blow for the Oilers, as he helped to turn around the first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings and carries a flawless 6-0 record for the postseason. Only three netminders have enjoyed longer postseason winning streaks with the Oilers. Meanwhile, Skinner is 0-2 and holds an ugly 6.11 goals-against average with a .810 save percentage. He has been hit or miss in the playoffs throughout his time with Edmonton, going 19-17 with the team.

Calvin Pickard Remains Starter For Game 1 Against Vegas

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard will be between the pipes for Game 1 against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday. After riding the bench at the start of the postseason, Pickard finished the first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings by winning four consecutive contests, earning the opportunity to start over Stuart Skinner at the beginning of Round 2. While Pickard is riding an impressive winning streak, his save percentage for the postseason at .893 is not the strongest, and he allowed nearly three goals per game against the Kings (2.93). Edmonton's chances in the series against a Vegas team that averages the fourth-most shots in the playoffs (32.2) would significantly improve if Pickard can elevate his performance levels.

Calvin Pickard To Start Game 3 For Oilers

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard will replace Stuart Skinner between the pipes for Game 3 against the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night. Skinner struggled significantly in the first two games of the series, allowing 11 goals while registering a .810 save percentage. Pickard already saw some action in Game 2, replacing Skinner midway through the third period. He saved two of three shots. During the regular season, Pickard boasted a .900 save percentage, going 22-10-1. He recorded a 2.71 goals-against average. Two of his appearances were against the Kings, and Pickard lost both, allowing a total of seven goals.

Calvin Pickard Sharp In Victory

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard led the way on Saturday evening as he stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced en route to defeating the Carolina Hurricanes. Pickard's lone blemish came in the third period when Sebastian Aho found the back of the net on the power-play. Even though the Hurricanes had the advantage in the shot total, Pickard was able to enjoy his best outing of the season. This was his second start of the campaign, tallying at least 30 saves, and first tallying at least 35. This was also a strong bounce back for Pickard as he allowed a hefty six goals in his previous start. Prior to that poor showing, Pickard held a 3-1 record with a 2.47 GAA. Despite his strong showing on Saturday, Pickard should only be rostered in deeper formats as Stuart Skinner sees most of the starts in the Edmonton crease.

Calvin Pickard Faces Wild Wednesday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard will be in the crease for Wednesday's matchup against Minnesota. The Oilers begin a back-to-back set, and Pickard gets the first leg, with Stuart Skinner likely returning to work on Thursday against Colorado. Pickard has logged six wins in his past seven starts, bringing his record for the campaign to 10-4-0. He has a 2.50 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage. The latter number isn't great, but Pickard has been bailed out by Edmonton's talented offense on many occasions. Following a horrible start to the season, the Oilers have suffered just five defeats since December and are heavily favored to take care of business on Wednesday against an injury-hit team.

Calvin Pickard Expected To Be Fine For Season Opener

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard (upper body) is expected to be available for the team's season opener against the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 9. Pickard was injured in Saturday's preseason clash against Seattle, leaving the game in the middle of the first frame. The 32-year-old will continue to work as Stuart Skinner's backup this season. Pickard had a very successful 2023-24 campaign with a 12-7-1 record. He collected one shutout across 20 starts while posting a 2.45 goals-against average with a .909 save percentage.

Calvin Pickard Makes Second Consecutive Start On Thursday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard will maintain his spot between the sticks for Thursday's Game 5 against Vancouver. He makes a second consecutive start after replacing Stuart Skinner in Game 4. Pickard made his first career Stanley Cup Playoffs start on Tuesday and impressed by saving 19 of 21 shots in a 3-2 win. The 32-year-old will likely have a busier night at the office on Thursday, as the Canucks are on home ice and desperate to win with the series tied at two.

Calvin Pickard Poised For First Playoff Start

Stuart Skinner has struggled in the series, forcing Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch to consider alternative options. Edmonton heads into Tuesday's matchup with a 2-1 series deficit. Pickard had a solid regular season with the Oilers, posting a 12-7-1 record with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. He has lost three of his last four starts.

Calvin Pickard Getting The Start Wednesday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard will likely be between the pipes for Wednesday's game against the hosting Arizona Coyotes. The 32-year-old has done solid work for the Oilers when called upon this season, posting a 2.41 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage across 21 outings (19 starts), going 12-6-1 in that time. The Oilers are locked into the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Division with a 49-25-6 record but it is yet to be determined who they will face in the first round of the postseason. Currently, it's the Vegas Golden Knights but the Los Angeles Kings sit just one point behind Vegas with one game to go for each club.

Calvin Pickard Is Prime Streaming Option On Thursday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard is set to start Thursday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Pickard is 4-2-0 on the season with a 2.69 GAA, .902 SV%, and -0.2 GSAA. With Edmonton on a 14-game winning streak and facing a bottom-tier Chicago team that is missing their best player, Pickard becomes the best streaming option of the day. His numbers don't scream must-add, but the scenario does. He should be picked up and started in any league where streaming is valuable, especially points leagues.

Calvin Pickard Earns Third Consecutive Start

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Calvin Pickard makes a third consecutive start on Tuesday against Florida. The 28-year-old has earned Jeff Blashill's trust after carrying the team to back-to-back wins over Columbus last weekend, allowing just one goal in both outings. These were Pickard's first starts of the season. He's had four appearances overall, producing a 2.12 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage in limited playing time. Detroit has lost four of six meetings against the Panthers this season, so Pickard is in a difficult spot to extend his winning streak.

Calvin Pickard Backstops Red Wings to Victory

Detroit Red Wings goalie Calvin Pickard made 16 saves to help his team defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Sunday. Behind Pickard, The Red Wings completed their first two-game set sweep in 2021. Before Pickard beat the Blue Jackets two games in a row, the former Seattle Thunderbird junior player had played in just one complete game in the last two months. He is now 2-0-0 in four appearances with Detroit this year. Pickard has been getting the opportunity to play due to Thomas Greiss's struggles and a lower-body injury to regular starter Jonathan Bernier. Detroit hopes Calvin Pickard can keep up his strong play when they faceoff against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.
