Mackenzie Blackwood Posts 35-Save Shutout

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood recorded his first shutout of the season in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Nashville Predators, finishing the game with 35 saves. After Brent Bruns scored just 15 seconds into the game, Blackwood kept Colorado ahead until the team wrapped up the win with two empty-net goals. Blackwood recorded his third consecutive victory, improving to 3-0-1 for the season. He has a 2.47 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. Due to offseason lower-body surgery, we haven't seen much of Blackwood in 2025-26. But he is starting to get regular action, providing competition for Scott Wedgewood, who is set to start in Sunday's matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Mackenzie Blackwood Set for Season Debut Saturday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood is expected to make his first appearance of the 2025-26 campaign in Saturday's meeting with the San Jose Sharks. After missing time because of a lower-body injury, Blackwood returned to the lineup this week, serving as a backup to Scott Wedgewood in a pair of games. Blackwood started last season with the Sharks and won both games against them after he was traded to the Avalanche. Overall, he produced a 22-12-3 record with his new squad, allowing 2.33 goals with a .913 save percentage and three shutouts. San Jose has gone 3-6-2 this season but averages 3.36 goals per game, so this may not be a walk in the park for Blackwood on Saturday.

Mackenzie Blackwood Back at Practice

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood (lower body) practiced on Friday, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports. This is a sign that Blackwood is nearing his return, although Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said the team isn't sure whether Blackwood will travel during an upcoming two-game road trip. Blackwood is set to miss a third straight game on Saturday when Colorado faces the Dallas Stars. While his absence is a blow for the team, Scott Wedgewood has been in impressive form at the start of the campaign. The 33-year-old has gone 2-0-0 so far, allowing just one goal in each outing and producing a .966 save percentage.

Mackenzie Blackwood Unavailable Tuesday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood (lower body) has not traveled with the team ahead of Tuesday's season opener against the Los Angeles Kings, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports. Blackwood arrived at training camp with a lower-body issue and hasn't recovered from the injury quickly enough to be available for the season opener. In total, the Avalanche have three games scheduled for the first week of action, playing the Utah Mammoth and Dallas Stars at home. Scott Wedgewood is set to fill in for Blackwood at the start of the campaign. He looks like a good short-term pickup for fantasy managers, having produced a 13-4-1 record in Denver last season.

Mackenzie Blackwood Questionable for Start of Season

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood (lower body) might miss the start of the season. According to Evan Rawal of The Denver Gazette, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said Blackwood is making progress in his recovery from a lower-body injury, but the team isn't sure if he'll be ready for opening night. Blackwood's injury is a blow for the Avalanche, but they have a quality backup in Scott Wedgewood. The well-traveled veteran posted a 13-4-1 record in Denver last season, allowing 1.99 goals and notching two shutouts with a .917 save percentage. Trent Miner is another option between the sticks for Colorado if Blackwood isn't available at the beginning of the campaign.

Mackenzie Blackwood Out Week-to-Week

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood (lower body) has been labeled as week-to-week by head coach Jared Bednar. "Things seem to be going good," Bednar said Wednesday. "Week-to-week I would say right now, but he's going to be limited and missing some time in camp as well. We're hoping he's ready to go for the start of the season; if not right at the start, then maybe the first week or two." Blackwood's injury means that we will likely see a lot of Scott Wedgewood in exhibition games. Nonetheless, Bednar seems confident that his No. 1 won't miss much time at the start of the regular season, if any. Blackwood had a superb start to his Avalanche career last season, going 22-12-3 in 37 appearances. He posted three shutouts and had a 2.33 goals-against average with a .913 save percentage.

Mackenzie Blackwood Dealing With Injury Ahead of Training Camp

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood (undisclosed) is dealing with an injury before training camp. According to Avalanche beat reporter Brennan Vogt, Blackwood hasn't skated with the team all week and isn't taking any shots. After arriving from San Jose, Blackwood impressed last term with his rock-solid play in the Avalanche crease, and missing him at the start of the season due to injury would be a big loss for the team. Blackwood went 22-12-2 in Colorado during the 2024-25 campaign, notching three shutouts and posting a 2.33 goals-against average with a .913 save percentage. His absence would open up more playing opportunities for Scott Wedgewood.

Mackenzie Blackwood Seeks To Overcome Road Struggles In Game 7

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood will start Saturday's Game 7 against the Dallas Stars, needing to deliver a road win for the team to extend its season. Blackwood opened the first-round series with a 5-1 win in Dallas, but he has since struggled on the road, allowing nine goals over two games. Dating back to the regular season, Blackwood has celebrated victory in only two of his last 10 road starts. It's a tough task to take down the Stars in Texas, but the Avalanche will carry some momentum following their Game 6 victory. Blackwood, who stopped 22 of 24 shots in Thursday's 7-4 win, has allowed 2.65 goals in the series with a .899 save percentage.

Blackwood impressed with the Avalanche during the regular season, going 22-12-3, and has maintained the momentum in the playoffs. After four games in the series, Blackwood boasts a 1.60 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage.

Mackenzie Blackwood Expected To Face Maple Leafs

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood is expected to be in the crease for Wednesday's big clash against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Scott Wedgewood has impressed with four consecutive wins, but the Avalanche go back to Blackwood on Wednesday, who had his own four-game winning run end with a 2-1 shootout defeat against the Minnesota Wild a week ago. This was only his third loss since the start of February. Blackwood has had a great time with the Avalanche, posting an 18-7-3 record with two shutouts. He holds a .919 save percentage and has allowed 2.17 goals. Beating the Maple Leafs at their places is never easy, but the bookmakers expect Blackwood to collect the victory on Wednesday, listing Colorado as a -133 favorite.

Mackenzie Blackwood Battling Illness, Not Starting On Friday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood (illness) is battling an illness and will not start on Friday evening when the Avalanche face the Calgary Flames. As a result, Scott Wedgewood will get the starting nod. Blackwood has performed very well over his previous five outings. During this stretch, he has held a 4-0-1 record with a 2.17 GAA with a .909 save percentage. Before this stretch, he held a similar 2.41 GAA with a .913 save percentage over his last eight contests. Fantasy managers should monitor his status but he should be in position to return to the lineup on Sunday when the Avalanche face the Dallas Stars. Wedgewood enters Friday's game with a two-game win streak. Over his last three, he has held a stellar 1.01 GAA with a .957 save percentage and should be viewed as a top play in DFS competitions.

Mackenzie Blackwood Facing Former Team On Thursday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood will take the starter's crease on Thursday evening against his former club, the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks traded Blackwood earlier this season and the 28-year-old has been one of the best netminders in the sport since moving to Colorado. He is currently riding a two-game winning streak into Thursday's tilt. Over his past eight games, the 28-year-old has held a stellar 6-2 record with a 1.77 GAA and a .929 save percentage. During this span, he posted two shutouts and only allowed more than two goals in two of these starts. Through 44 total games, Blackwood has held a 22-16-5 record with a .916 save percentage with a 2.49 GAA. Fantasy managers should view Blackwood as a must-start goaltender moving forward and a top option in DFS facing the San Jose Sharks.

Mackenzie Blackwood Stands Tall In Victory

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced en route to defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday evening. The Penguins dominated the shot total but Blackwood was able to lead the way. His lone mistake came in the second frame when Pittsburgh left wing Rickard Rakell found the back of the net for his 29th goal of the season. This outing extended his winning streak to two games. Over his previous eight contests, the 28-year-old has held a 6-2 record with a stellar .929 save percentage with a 1.77 GAA. During this stretch, he posted two shutouts and only allowed three or more goals twice. Blackwood remains a must-start option in all fantasy formats given his current play. Mackenzie Blackwood Lands Five-Year Extension

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood has signed a five-year extension. The 28-year-old has featured just four times for the Avalanche since he was acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks, but the team has apparently seen enough to ink him to a fairly lengthy extension. The deal is worth $26.25 million and will give Blackwood a $5.25 million cap hit starting next season. He's currently finishing off a two-year contract that counts $2.35 million against the cap. Blackwood has gone 3-1-0 with Colorado, allowing 2.03 goals with a .931 save percentage. He carries an 84-92-25 career record. Blackwood's move to Denver has given a big boost to his fantasy stock, and it looks like the Avalanche see him as their No. 1 for the foreseeable future.

Mackenzie Blackwood Takes On Kraken Sunday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood will look to continue his good start with his new squad on Sunday versus Seattle. He will make his fourth appearance for the Avalanche, entering the action with a 2-1-0 record. Teams have yet to find a way to get more than two pucks past Blackwood since he moved to Colorado from San Jose. He's registered a 2.04 goals-against average with a .938 save percentage. Seattle sits on a poor 7-10-0 road record and has dropped four games in a row, so Blackwood is in a great spot to produce another winning performance.

Mackenzie Blackwood Makes Second Avalanche Start Monday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood will be the starter for Monday's matchup against Vancouver. Blackwood is fresh off his team debut, having defeated Nashville 5-2 at the weekend with 37 saves. This is the second time this season Blackwood faces the Canucks. He was handed a 3-2 loss as a member of the Sharks on Nov. 2. Vancouver is 5-7-4 on home ice and has won only two of its last six games, so Blackwood is in a good position to pick up consecutive wins for only the third time this season.

Mackenzie Blackwood Lands In Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche have acquired goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood in a trade with the San Jose Sharks. Forward Givani Smith will also move to Denver, with goaltender Alexandar Georgiev and forward Nikolai Kovalenko going the other way, along with a couple of draft picks. Goaltending has been a major weak point for the Avalanche this season. Blackwood will be tasked with providing some stability in the net alongside Scott Wedgewood, who was recently acquired from Nashville. Wedgewood has started well with his new team, so Blackwood will need to be sharp to receive regular action. He's posted a 6-9-3 record this season with a 3.00 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage, and one shutout. Blackwood's fantasy stock receives a huge boost from the trade, as he has joined a much stronger team.
