Jordie Benn News
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jordie Benn (upper body) was placed on Injured Reserve Thursday. He suffered an upper-body injury in Wednesday's win over New Jersey, and the team is considering Benn week-to-week. Benn has had an opportunity to play a big role since making his season debut two weeks ago, with a number of his teammates sidelined with various injuries. He has tallied two points in six games with eight shots, 18 hits and 15 blocks. The Maple Leafs are mainly going to miss Benn's muscle. Having already missed a large chunk of the campaign with a groin problem, the veteran blue-liner will be hoping to return as quickly as possible.
Toronto Maple Leafs defensemen Jordie Benn (groin) and Carl Dahlstrom (shoulder) both suffered injuries in Wednesday's preseason clash against Montreal. Benn suffered a groin injury and was able to log just three shifts, while Dahlstrom hurt his shoulder and settled for 3:49 of action. Forwards Calle Jarnkrok and Alexander Kerfoot ended up filling in at the back. Jake Muzzin (back) and Timothy Liljegren (hernia) are already nursing injuries, so Toronto is currently very thin on the blue line. Luckily for the team, there's still a while to go until the season opener against the Canadiens, and some of their injuries should clear up by then.
Minnesota Wild defenseman Jordie Benn will be drafted into the lineup on Sunday to replace Jared Spurgeon (lower body) in an away contest against Tampa. The Wild captain was injured early in Saturday's 5-4 loss to Florida. Calen Addison was called up from the AHL as a potential replacement, but head coach Dean Evason goes with the more experienced Benn instead. The 34-year-old will make only his second appearance of the season, and his first since Oct. 28 when he finished a 4-1 loss to Seattle with no points and a minus-one rating in 13:32 of ice time.
