Ryan Ellis Unlikely To Continue Career

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ryan Ellis (back) will unlikely be able to continue his NHL career. The 32-year-old has missed all but five games since the start of the 2021-22 season and it looks like he will be forced to call it quits because of a torn psoas muscle in his back. According to Flyers president of hockey operations Keith Jones, Ellis is still "exhausting everything that he can in order to play", but the team doesn't expect him back. Ellis made himself a name with the Nashville Predators, playing 10 years with the club and reaching the Stanley Cup Finals in 2017. He was traded to Philadelphia in the 2021 offseason and Ellis has played only a handful of games since then. The Canadian blue-liner has registered 275 points (76 goals, 199 assists) in 566 regular-season games In the NHL.

Ryan Ellis Still Not Ready For Action

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ryan Ellis is still dealing with a pelvic injury and remains without a timetable to return. The versatile blue-liner was injured during the preseason last year and ended up skating in just four regular-season games. He managed a goal and four assists, with his last appearance coming on Nov. 13. It's a worrying situation for the club and Philadelphia traded for Tony DeAngelo during the offseason to strengthen its blue line. He's set to start the campaign on the first defensive pairing with Ivan Provorov.

Ryan Ellis Misses Saturday's Matchup

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ryan Ellis (undisclosed) won't be available for Saturday's clash with Florida. Justin Braun will take over his spot on the top pairing, while Nick Seeler gets into the lineup. Ellis has started life in Philadelphia with four points in three games, and he isn't expected to be out for long, with head coach Alain Vigneault saying that Ellis will feature during the team's upcoming road trip, which starts with Wednesday's matchup against the Oilers. Carter Hart, who is 1-0-1 for the year, is back between the pipes for Philly on Saturday.

Ryan Ellis In, Rasmus Ristolainen Out On Friday

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen (upper body) won't be on the ice in Friday's season opener against Vancouver. He and Ryan Ellis (undisclosed) have both struggled to get ready for the first game of the season and it just comes a little bit too soon for the former Sabre, while Ellis is ready to go. Ristolainen is day-to-day and might feature on Monday against Seattle. Ellis will join Ivan Provorov on the first defensive pairing and is set to skate on the second power-play unit as well. Carter Hart, who had a miserable time last season with a 3.67 goals-against average and a .877 save percentage, starts in the net.

Ryan Ellis Acquired By Flyers In Three-Team Swap

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired some defensive help on Saturday when the organization landed Ryan Ellis is a three-team swap with the Vegas Golden Knights and Nashville Predators. The club parted ways with center Nolan Patrick, the former second-overall selection in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and defenseman Philippe Myers. The veteran defender comes with a high price tag as he's locked into a contract through the 2026-27 season with a $6.25 million AAV. Last season in 35 games, Ellis scored five goals and recorded 18 total points while playing close to 24 minutes a game. He could become a top-pair defenseman for the Flyers in 2021-22 with additional time on the second power-play unit.

Ryan Ellis Gets Activated From Injured Reserve

Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis (upper body) looks set to rejoin the lineup for Saturday's clash with Tampa after he was activated from Injured Reserve. The 32-year-old hasn't played since Feb. 28. The Predators have seen skaters drop like flies lately, so this is a big boost for a playoff-chasing team. Filip Forsberg, Eeli Tolvanen, Dante Fabbro and Mathieu Olivier all got sidelined this week. Ellis has been quiet with nine points in 21 games, but he'll be logging huge minutes on a depleted blue line. Nashville has four games in six days, so it's worth considering picking him up if he's available in your league.

Ryan Ellis Among Nashville's Absentees On Tuesday

Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis (upper body) has been ruled out for four to six weeks and will miss Tuesday's clash against Carolina, with Ryan Johansen and Luke Kunin (lower body) joining him on the sidelines. Ellis is a real workhorse for Nashville and averages close to 25 minutes a night. He has produced nine points in 21 games this season with 45 shots and 37 blocks. Johansen has had a rough season with five points in 14 games and he had just returned from an injury layoff, so this is very disappointing for him. Erik Haula takes over Johansen's center spot on the third line. Kunin, who boasts five points in 17 games, has been skating as a fourth-liner lately, so his absence won't hurt the team much. Dante Fabbro will join Roman Josi as Ellis' replacement on the first defensive pairing and looks set to skate on the second power-play unit as well.
