Ryan Leonard to Miss 3-4 Weeks

Washington Capitals right wing Ryan Leonard (shoulder) will be sidelined for 3-4 weeks. He will miss a second consecutive game on Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 20-year-old rookie suffered a shoulder injury last week in a contest against the Anaheim Ducks. Leonard is fourth in scoring among first-year players with 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 29 outings. Sonny Milano has replaced Leonard in the lineup. Milano has tallied six points (four goals, two assists) in 18 appearances this season and should not draw fantasy attention. He typically logs very little ice time, averaging less than 10 minutes per game for the season.

Ryan Leonard to Miss "Extended Period of Time"

Washington Capitals right wing Ryan Leonard (upper body) will be on the shelf for the foreseeable future. He was placed on Injured Reserve on Sunday, with Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery saying that Leonard will miss an "extended period of time" after he sustained an upper-body injury in Friday's loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Right before the Ducks game, Leonard became only the fourth Capitals player over the past 40 years to record a four-point game at age 20 or younger. Overall, he has tallied 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 29 games, ranking fourth in scoring among first-year players. Sonny Milano is projected to take Leonard's spot on the third line Sunday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Ryan Leonard Suffers Upper-Body Injury Friday

Washington Capitals right wing Ryan Leonard (upper body) was limited to 4:38 of ice time in Friday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks. He was unable to carry on after taking a big hit from Ducks defenseman Jacob Trouba in the first period. Leonard notched a career-high four points in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the San Jose Sharks and has been hot offensively. He entered Friday's action with a four-game point streak. Overall, the 20-year-old has amassed 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 29 appearances during his rookie campaign. Sonny Milano, who has tallied six points (four goals, two assists) in 17 outings, is in line to take Leonard's spot in the lineup if he has to miss time.

Ryan Leonard Tallies Four Points in Wednesday's Win

Washington Capitals right wing Ryan Leonard had the best game of his young career on Wednesday, posting two goals and two assists in a 7-1 road victory over the San Jose Sharks. Leonard became the first Capitals rookie to record a four-point game since legendary playmaker Nicklas Backstrom in 2008. The 20-year-old is riding a four-game point streak and has finished scoreless just once in his past six outings. He has scored power-play points in three consecutive games. Washington has used Leonard on the first power-play unit, which has given him a big lift. In even-strength situations, he has been limited to a third-line role. Leonard boasts 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 28 games for the season.

In eight playoff appearances, he has registered one assist, 11 shots, and seven hits, averaging 10:21 of ice time. Washington will use Leonard on the third line with Mangiapane and Eller Monday night.
