A.J. Ewing's Elite Speed Makes him an Appealing Waiver-Wire Target

Across 134 plate appearances since making his MLB debut in mid-May, New York Mets outfielder A.J. Ewing is hitting .250/.333/.362 with two home runs, 11 RBI, 14 runs scored, and seven stolen bases. The 21-year-old has struggled with both swing-and-miss (29.2%) and power (5.3% barrel rate) early in his MLB career, which is a bit of a worrying combination. Still, Ewing has demonstrated an ability to get on base (11.2% walk rate) and profiles as a significant speed threat. Across 124 minor league games in 2025, Ewing stole 70 bases. With his elite speed, Ewing consistently ran high BABIPs in the minors despite his underwhelming contact quality. If he can cut down on the whiffs as he gets more reps against big-league pitching, Ewing could emerge as a solid source of batting average and a tremendous source of speed for fantasy managers over the second half of the 2026 season.

A.J. Ewing Worth a Look in Deep Leagues for his Speed?

New York Mets rookie second baseman/outfielder A.J. Ewing already has seven stolen bases in 10 attempts in his first 25 major-league games. The team's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has hit .259 (22-for-85) with a homer, a double, a triple, seven RBI, and 11 runs scored in his first 99 plate appearances for the injury-riddled and last-place Mets. The 21-year-old former fourth-rounder in 2023 out of a high school in Ohio is currently riding a five-game hitting streak, in which he's gone 7-for-18 (.389) with a double, RBI, three stolen bases, and three runs scored. The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder is definitely worth an add off the waiver wire in deeper fantasy leagues if you're searching for speed, but Ewing's current 31.3% strikeout rate is certainly a drawback. But as long as he can continue to get on base, Ewing will continue to run with the Mets basically letting their young prospects get plenty of playing time in 2026 in what has quickly turned into a lost season.

A.J. Ewing Collects Two Hits Friday, Trending Onto Fantasy Radar

New York Mets outfielder A.J. Ewing continued his strong rookie campaign on Friday, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one stolen base, and one run scored. The former fourth-round pick has taken advantage of increased playing time with Luis Robert Jr. on the injured list and Tyrone Taylor still weeks away from returning. Through his first 17 major-league games, Ewing is slashing .268/.359/.357 with a .716 OPS while adding four stolen bases. His 92nd-percentile sprint speed has already translated into fantasy value, and his athleticism gives him multiple paths to production. The Mets' No. 1 prospect appears positioned for continued opportunities in the short term. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should keep a close eye on Ewing as he continues to establish himself at the major-league level.

A.J. Ewing a Top Source for Five-Category Potential

New York Mets rookie outfielder A.J. Ewing, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, has gotten his MLB career off to a nice start in Queens, hitting .276 (8-for-29) with a homer, a triple, four RBI, six runs scored, two stolen bases, eight walks, and 11 strikeouts in his first 10 games across 39 plate appearances. The 21-year-old left-handed hitter not only offers five-category upside for fantasy managers short and long term, but he also has eligibility at outfield and second base in Yahoo leagues, making him an even more attractive prospect to roster in 2026 and beyond. The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder could develop more power eventually, but right now, that's probably where he's the weakest. Ewing excels at making contact at the plate, though, and he's a plus-plus runner on the basepaths and in the outfield. Ewing can spray the ball all over the field and will continue to play regularly in New York's outfield with Luis Robert Jr. (back) not any closer to a return from the injured list. Ewing is currently rostered in 41% of Yahoo leagues.

A.J. Ewing a Priority Target After Hot Start

New York Mets outfielder A.J. Ewing, who is the Mets' third-ranked prospect and MLB's 85th-ranked prospect, has been making a splash since getting called up on May 12. Ewing was called up because Luis Robert's (back) recovery is not going well, and the Mets' offense has needed a spark, and Ewing has delivered thus far, going 3-for-9 with a triple, home run, three RBI, one stolen base, and four runs scored over three games started. Ewing has delivered at every stop across the minors, hitting .339 in 2026 and .315 in 2025. His bat-to-ball skills and speed are elite, making him a strong play in points leagues, but if he can continue to showcase some power as he did on Thursday, the upside is unlimited. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to all of a sudden showcase decent to even good power now that he's at the MLB level, but he should be a solid contributor to batting average, runs, and steals, especially if he is going to be getting moved up to the top of the Mets batting order and batting around Juan Soto.

A.J. Ewing Fills Stat Sheet in MLB Debut, Viewed as Top Waiver-Wire Option

New York Mets rookie outfielder A.J. Ewing delivered an impressive MLB debut on Tuesday, going 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBI, three walks, and a stolen base. The fourth-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft showcased multiple parts of his offensive profile and immediately drew attention as a fantasy waiver wire option. Ewing hit .290 with an .819 OPS across 251 minor league games before earning his promotion to New York. The 21-year-old could see increased opportunities moving forward with several Mets outfielders currently on the injured list, including Luis Robert Jr. Ewing is known for his elite contact skills and speed, making him a high-end waiver wire option out of New York.

A.J. Ewing Batting Eighth in MLB Debut

New York Mets outfield prospect A.J. Ewing is starting in center field and will hit eighth in the batting order in his major-league debut on Tuesday against the visiting Detroit Tigers and right-hander Jack Flaherty, according to MLB.com. The Mets are calling on their second-ranked prospect (per MLB Pipeline) to inject some life into their struggling offense with Luis Robert Jr. (back) still on the injured list. The 21-year-old got the call to the majors after hitting .339/.447/.514 with a .961 OPS, two homers, 11 RBI, 17 stolen bases, and 25 runs scored in 30 games with Triple-A Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton this year. At least until Robert returns, Ewing should play regularly in center field in New York against right-handed pitching. Ewing's power stroke is still developing, so fantasy managers shouldn't count on many home runs. He's a contact-oriented outfielder with plus speed. Ewing is only rostered in 13% of Yahoo leagues currently. He's an easy fade in DFS in his MLB debut while hitting in the eight-hole.

Mets to Call Up Top Prospect A.J. Ewing

The New York Mets plan to call up top prospect A.J. Ewing before Tuesday's game against the Detroit Tigers, league sources told Will Sammon of The Athletic. The Mets came into Monday's action with a 15-25 record, which is the worst in the National League, and they are desperate to do something to turn their season around. Per MLB Pipeline, Ewing is New York's No. 2 prospect, behind only right-hander Jonah Tong. In 12 games at Triple-A Syracuse, Ewing has hit .326. He started the year at Double-A Binghamton, where he had a 1.052 OPS while playing strong defense in center field. The 21-year-old left-handed hitter was a fourth-rounder in 2023. Ewing is ranked No. 98 on Keith Law's top-100 list. He's known for his speed and contact ability, and he's one of the top young prospects to stash in fantasy baseball leagues, especially now that he's heading to the Show this week. The Mets are hopeful that Ewing's plus defense, plus baserunning, and developing power will give them a jolt, and fantasy managers can say the same. He's currently rostered in just 3% of Yahoo leagues, but that number should jump in the next few days.

A.J. Ewing Holds Priority Stash Upside as MLB Promotion Nears

New York Mets infield/outfield prospect A.J. Ewing has looked very comfortable in his first taste of Triple-A and is quickly approaching his MLB debut. Ewing, the team's No. 3-ranked prospect according to MLB.com, opened the 2026 campaign with Double-A Binghamton but has already earned the call to Triple-A Syracuse. With Double-A, Ewing has posted an elite .349/.481/.571 slash line with two home runs and an impressive 12 stolen bases over a short 18-game stint. Throughout his first 11 games at the Triple-A level, Ewing has looked just as comfortable, posting a dominant .317/.391/.415 line with four stolen bases. Even though his power has yet to translate against Triple-A pitching, he continues to showcase elite speed. With the Mets having numerous hitters on the shelf, such as Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert Jr., and Francisco Lindor, Ewing could debut in the big leagues much sooner than anticipated.

A.J. Ewing Emerging as Elite Stash Option in Week 6

New York Mets infield/outfield prospect A.J. Ewing has emerged as an elite stash option in Week 6 of the fantasy baseball season. Ewing is currently ranked as the No. 85 overall prospect in the sport and the No. 3-ranked prospect in the Mets system, according to MLB.com. He began the 2026 campaign with Double-A Binghamton, where he posted an incredible .349/.481/.571 line with six doubles, two home runs, and 12 stolen bases. This dominant start earned him a ticket to Triple-A Syracuse, where Ewing has continued to swing a scorching-hot bat. Over his first seven games at the top level of the system, Ewing has posted an eye-catching .440/.500/.560 line with one double, one triple, and four stolen bases. Given that Ewing has swiped 16 bags in 25 games this season, he should be viewed as a priority stash target for those needing speed. If he continues this pace, he could arrive in Queens before the All-Star break.
