The Twins re-signed the 27-year-old reliever after removing him from the 40-man roster this offseason. Duarte is currently recovering from revision surgery on his right UCL and is expected to miss most, if not all of the 2025 season. The Mexican hurler only threw four innings of relief in 2024 with Minnesota before being shut down with his elbow injury, and he allowed one earned run while walking one and striking out three. Duarte made his major-league debut in 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds and had a 4.19 ERA (6.16 FIP), a 1.46 WHIP and a 25:23 K:BB in 34 1/3 relief innings in his two seasons with the club. Obviously, Duarte isn't anywhere near the fantasy radar heading into next year.

The Minnesota Twins claimed right-hander Daniel Duarte off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Friday and designated right-hander Ryan Jensen for release or assignment to make room for Duarte on the 40-man roster. Duarte has a minor-league option remaining, so he could start the 2024 campaign at Triple-A St. Paul if he doesn't win a bullpen role out of spring training. He appeared 31 times out of the Cincinnati Reds' bullpen in 2023 and had a 3.69 ERA (5.84 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP with a save, 20 walks and 23 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings pitched. In his two big-league seasons with the Reds, he has a 4.19 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 23 walks and 25 strikeouts over 34 1/3 innings. Jensen was claimed on waivers by the Twins in early January but could be on the move again if he's released or claimed by another club.

The 27-year-old Mexican pitcher had a 3.69 ERA (5.84 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP while walking 20 and striking out 23 in 31 2/3 innings over 31 appearances out of Cincinnati's bullpen in 2023. He's only thrown 34 1/3 innings at the big-league level over the last two seasons and is most likely to begin the 2024 regular season in minor leagues in the Rangers organization as relief depth.
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Daniel Duarte (elbow) has been activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Louisville. Duarte will get some work in at the team's Triple-A affiliate in order to rehab his elbow. He appeared in just three games out of the Reds' bullpen this season but he's got a shot to get some work in with the big league club before the year is over.
