Phillies Reinstate Alec Bohm on Friday

The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Friday that they reinstated infielder Alec Bohm (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Rafael Lantigua to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move before their contest in Arizona against the Diamondbacks and right-hander Ryne Nelson. The Phillies have not released their starting lineup for Friday's series opener in the desert, but Bohm should be in it and starting at third base. The 29-year-old's return will push Otto Kemp back to a utility role for the first-place Phils. Bohm missed a minimum of 10 days on the IL with a cyst in his left (non-throwing) shoulder and did not require a minor-league rehab assignment before returning. The former first-rounder has hit a solid .272 (116-for-427) this year, but his power has been down (only nine homers) in 111 games.

Alec Bohm Travels with Team to Los Angeles

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (shoulder) made the trip with the team to take on the Dodgers in LA, reports Matt Gelb of The Athletic. They left many of their injured players at home, so this is a promising sign that he could be activated within the minimum number of days. While he won't actually be eligible to return until after the Dodgers series on Friday, he is doing full workouts with the team. It was always supposed to be a short injured list stint for the 29-year-old, who is dealing with a cyst in his left shoulder. This is his second injury of the season, as he missed a month earlier in the year due to a fractured rib.

Alec Bohm Lands on Injured List With Cyst in his Shoulder

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (shoulder) is being placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday due to a cyst in his right shoulder, according to The Athletic's Matt Gelb. In a corresponding move, infielder Otto Kemp was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and he's playing third and batting ninth in Monday's series opener against the division-rival New York Mets. The Phils also put shortstop Trea Turner (hamstring) on the IL, so they are losing the whole left side of their infield right before a crucial divisional series at Citizens Bank Park. Bohm will have an injection in his shoulder and may not be able to return to the Phillies until the playoffs in October. With Edmundo Sosa taking over at short, Kemp should be the team's everyday third baseman for the Phils moving forward. Kemp has hit .228 with four homers and 17 RBI this year in his first 46 MLB games. UPDATE: Bohm is expected to avoid a lengthy IL stint.

Alec Bohm to Return From Injured List on Sunday

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (ribs) will come off the 10-day injured list on Sunday, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports. Bohm has missed almost a month after going on the IL on July 19 with a fractured left rib. Before suffering the injury, the 29-year-old hit an unspectacular .278/.324/.391 with eight homers, 42 RBI, and 39 runs scored in 383 plate appearances. Bohm has never been a great source of power, but this year's .113 ISO is among the worst of his career and falls well short of the .165 mark he combined for from 2023-24. The Phillies will be glad to welcome Bohm back, though, as he should provide an upgrade over reserves Edmundo Sosa and Otto Kemp.

Alec Bohm to Start Rehab Assignment on Sunday

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (ribs) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Lochlahn March. Bohm is trying to return from a fractured left rib that has kept him out since July 19. It's unclear how many rehab games the 29-year-old will require, but if he's feeling good after games this weekend, there's a chance he could come off the 10-day injured to rejoin the major-league squad at some point next week. With Bohm sidelined, the Phillies have been mixing and matching at the hot corner with rookie Otto Kemp and veteran utility infielder Edmundo Sosa. Bohm still makes plenty of contact and has hit .278 (98-for-353) in 92 games this year, but his power has never been anything special and he hit eight long balls in 383 plate appearances before his trip to the IL.

Alec Bohm Doing Baseball Activities

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (rib) was diagnosed with a left-rib fracture on July 19 and was placed on the 10-day injured list. Bohm is feeling better now, though, and ran, threw, took dry swings, hit off a practice tee and fielded ground balls on Tuesday before the game in Chicago against the White Sox, according to MLB.com. If Bohm can avoid a setback once he begins ramping up even further, he could come off the IL by mid-August, but he's likely going to require a minor-league rehab assignment first. For however much longer the 28-year-old remains out, rookie Otto Kemp should remain the team's primary third baseman. Although Bohm has hit a decent .278 (98-for-353) this year, he's been a disappointment overall with eight home runs and 42 RBI in 92 games after he was a first-time All-Star in 2024.

Alec Bohm Placed on 10-Day Injured List

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed third baseman Alec Bohm (ribs) on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left rib and recalled infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Bohm suffered the injury on a hit by pitch last Saturday, causing him to miss two of the Phillies' three games since then. The 28-year-old played Friday, but he aggravated the injury during a loss to the Angels and could now miss a sizable chunk of time. While Edmundo Sosa, Otto Kemp, and Wilson are the in-house candidates to play third during Bohm's absence, the team does have the option of acquiring outside help before the July 31 trade deadline.

Alec Bohm Aggravates Rib Injury

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (ribs) was left out of Saturday's lineup against the Los Angeles Angels. It turns out that Bohm reaggravated his bruised left rib cage in the team's 6-5 loss to the Angels on Friday, per Lochlahn March of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Manager Rob Thomson is unsure if Bohm will require a stint on the 10-day injured list. He'll now sit out for the second time in a three-game span dating back to last Sunday. Otto Kemp is playing third base and batting sixth with Bohm on the shelf Saturday.

Alec Bohm Not Starting on Saturday

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (ribs) isn't starting against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Otto Kemp will play third and bat sixth versus Angels left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. It's unclear if Bohm's absence is related to a rib injury that he dealt with before the All-Star break. Bohm missed the team's final game of the first half last Sunday before returning on Friday to go 0-for-4 in a 6-5 loss to the Halos. The 28-year-old has experienced a drop in power this season and put together an underwhelming .278/.324/.391 line with eight homers, 42 RBI, and 39 runs scored in 383 plate appearances.

Alec Bohm Back From Rib Injury on Friday

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (ribs) is back at the hot corner and is batting cleanup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Angels and right-handed opener Ryan Zeferjahn to begin the second half of the season. A bruised left rib kept Bohm out for the final game of the first half of the season on Sunday, but after resting during the All-Star break, the 28-year-old is ready to roll to kick off the second half. There's a lot to be desired from a power standpoint from Bohm -- he only has eight homers in 349 at-bats -- but he's also batting .281 (98 hits) in one of the best lineups in baseball and has added 42 RBI. He's been hot so far in July, going 9-for-31 (.290) with a homer, triple, five RBI and six runs scored. Get Bohm back into your starting fantasy lineups, especially with the Angels rolling with a bullpen game.
