Austin Wells Out of Yankees Lineup on Saturday

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells is not in the lineup for his team's game against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. Ben Rice will take his place behind the plate and bat second. With just two games remaining in the regular season, Wells has slashed .221/.277/.440 with 21 home runs, 71 RBI, 51 runs scored, and five stolen bases across 445 plate appearances. The 26-year-old has ceded some playing time to Rice in the second half of the season, but the Yankees have also found ways to play them both by starting Rice at first base. Wells will likely be back in the lineup tomorrow against Orioles right-hander Kyle Bradish.

Austin Wells Out Against a Lefty

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells will get a breather in the second game of the series at Yankee Stadium on Saturday against the visiting Houston Astros with tough left-hander Framber Valdez on the mound. Ben Rice will do the catching for right-hander Luis Gil and will hit fifth against Valdez. Wells is only hitting .209 (64-for-306) on the season, but he's already up to a career-high 15 home runs and 56 RBI for the Yanks in 92 games in his third MLB season. He's actually been better against lefties, too, batting .245 (24-for-98) with five of his 15 homers against them in 2025. Rice has had a breakout season in his first full season in the big leagues with 16 home runs and 36 RBI in his 96 games played in pinstripes. He has never faced Valdez, though, and has gone only 14-for-71 (.197) with four of his 16 long balls against southpaws this year.

Austin Wells Launches Homer No. 13

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-4 win against the New York Mets. He added another RBI on a fielder's choice and also singled. The Yankees avoided the sweep against their cross-town rivals, and Wells was a big part of it -- giving the Yanks their first lead in the third with his thirteenth long ball of the season. That marks back-to-back games in which the 25-year-old has left the yard, and he's started off the month nicely, batting .333 (4-for-12). Wells' .220 xBA is right in line with his average on the season, but it's worth noting that he's making better quality of contact this year and more contact when he swings in general (82.9% Zone Contact).

Trent Grisham, Austin Wells Both Back on Thursday

New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham (hamstring) and catcher Austin Wells (finger) are both back in the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Chris Bassitt. Grisham is in center field and batting leadoff, while Wells is catching and in the eight-hole. Grisham is back after missing the last two games with tightness in his left hamstring. The Yankees initially thought that the 28-year-old was going to need a trip to the injured list, but that won't be the case now. Wells missed four straight games with arterial damage in his left index finger, but he's also feeling good enough to return to the lineup. Grisham has hit .182 with a solo home run in 11 career at-bats against Bassitt, while Wells has a .250 average in eight career at-bats against Bassitt.

Austin Wells to Miss Next Two Games

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells (finger) won't be available for Monday or Tuesday's game due to a circulation issue in his finger. Wells underwent testing to rule out any blood clots and those came back negative. The team plans to give him a few days to rest, but expect Wells back in the lineup on Wednesday. This could result in a trip to the injured list if the injury doesn't get better. For now, fantasy managers can consider him day-to-day and rule him out for the next two contests. In the meantime, J.C. Escarra will be behind the plate and bat eighth versus right-hander Max Scherzer on Monday.

Austin Wells Homers, Plates Five Tuesday

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells had a great game at the plate in Tuesday's 10-2 win over the Royals. Wells went 2-for-5 with a double, a three-run home run, five RBI, and a strikeout. The 25-year-old skyed a fourth-inning Noah Cameron changeup just over the right-field fence to put the Yanks up 5-1. Wells has provided power and RBI from a fantasy perspective, slashing .227/.294/.476 with 11 HR, 41 RBI, and three stolen bases in 211 plate appearances. This profile makes him a solid option in points leagues, and while his batting average is a detriment in roto leagues, his exposure to a strong lineup should continue to help with his counting stats.

Austin Wells Homers in Loss

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells was able to do some damage against tough southpaw Garrett Crochet on Saturday. Wells got the better of Crochet in the second inning with a three-run blast off the Boston ace. He would later add another RBI with a double in the fourth inning. He finished his night 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI, but it wasn't enough to get his club the win. Wells is in the middle of a hot streak with five hits over his last three games.

Paul Goldschmidt, Austin Wells Starting On Bench On Wednesday

New York Yankees first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and catcher Austin Wells are not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the hosting Seattle Mariners. Ben Rice will start at first base and bat second, while J.C. Escarra will do the catching and hit eighth against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Goldy, who is having a resurgent season in his first year in the Bronx, will take the day off after starting each of the team's last six games. He's currently tied for third in all of baseball with 55 hits and ranks fourth with a .344 average, adding four homers, 21 RBI and 26 runs scored. Wells is batting just .214 (27-for-126) but is tied for third among all catchers with his eight home runs. His 28 RBI are tied for most with Seattle's Cal Raleigh at catcher. Neither Rice nor Escarra have ever faced Castillo in their career. Rice is a sneaky DFS power option with nine homers and 20 RBI on the year.

Austin Wells Homers And Drives In Four Runs On Monday

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells connected on his eighth homer of the year in the Yankees' 11-5 victory on Monday night in Seattle. He finished the game 1-for-4 with the three-run homer as his only hit and a sacrifice fly to tack on his fourth RBI of the night. The 25-year-old Yankees' backstop now has eight home runs and 28 RBI in his 36 games, and he is hitting .215 with a .264 ISO, .323 wOBA, and 45.5% hard-hit rate. Wells has established himself as one of the better power options behind the plate, and he should continue to bring solid production behind the plate with a prominent spot in the Yankees' productive batting order.

Austin Wells Resting On Friday

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells is out of the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Athletics. Wells will get a rest day here after starting in all three games during their most recent series against the San Diego Padres. He went 3-for-12 with a home run and five RBI during that series. In his absence, J.C. Escarra will cover behind the plate and bat seventh versus right-hander Osvaldo Bido on Friday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch.
