Cade Povich to Start for Orioles on Monday

Baltimore Orioles left-hander Cade Povich (hip) will come off the 15-day injured list to start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, interim manager Tony Mansolino announced. It'll be the first start since June 16 for Povich, who has missed a month and a half with inflammation in his left hip. The 25-year-old went 2-5 with a 5.15 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts against 23 walks in 64 2/3 innings before going on the IL. Povich built up to 86 pitches in his most recent rehab start, so he shouldn't face any restrictions against Philadelphia. The Phillies will be a tough draw for Povich, though, as they rank 10th in the majors in runs and own the league's seventh-best wOBA versus southpaws (.322).

Cade Povich Roughed Up in Rehab Start

Baltimore Orioles left-hander Cade Povich (hip) didn't fare too well in a rehab outing with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Making his fourth start since going on the 15-day injured list with hip inflammation on June 16, Povich struck out three and yielded five runs (four earned) on seven hits over 4 2/3 frames. The good news is that Povich threw 86 pitches (54 strikes), which suggests he's close to a return to the majors. He could rejoin Baltimore's rotation soon with Charlie Morton, Zach Eflin, and Tomoyuki Sugano all potentially on the way out before Thursday's trade deadline. Povich, 25, has made 12 starts in 13 appearances for the Orioles this season and logged a 5.15 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB across 64 2/3 innings.

Cade Povich to Make Rehab Start on Tuesday

Baltimore Orioles left-hander Cade Povich (hip) will make another minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday night, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. In his last rehab start with the Tides last Thursday, Povich got up to 70 pitches in his fourth start in the minors, so barring a setback with his hip on Tuesday, he figures to make his next start for the Orioles. While there isn't currently room in the five-man starting rotation at the big-league level, there could be after this Thursday's trade deadline if the O's trade one or both of Zach Eflin and Charlie Morton. The 25-year-old southpaw is in his second big-league season in Baltimore and has been inconsistent, going 2-5 with a 5.15 ERA (4.11 FIP) and 1.50 WHIP while walking 23 and striking out 68 in 64 2/3 innings over 13 outings (12 starts) this year.

Cade Povich Fans Six in Rehab Outing

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Cade Povich (hip) made a rehab appearance with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, throwing five innings and allowing two hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out six. Povich was placed on the 15-day injured list in mid-June with inflammation in his left hip. Thursday marked his third rehab outing, and he hit the 70-pitch mark, so his next start may come in the big leagues. The 25-year-old lefty threw 64 2/3 innings (12 starts) for Baltimore before getting hurt, recording a 2-5 record with a 5.15 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts. Povich has shown the ability to generate swing-and-miss (23.9% strikeout rate), but he allows far too much hard contact (50.8% hard-hit rate allowed). His pathway back to a regular role in Baltimore's rotation will become clearer if the Orioles trade away veteran Charlie Morton at the deadline.

Cade Povich to Make Another Rehab Start

Baltimore Orioles left-hander Cade Povich (hip) will make another Triple-A rehab start either Thursday or Friday, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. Povich looked good in his most recent rehab start on Saturday, as he tossed three innings (62 pitches) of one-run ball with six strikeouts. The 25-year-old has been on the 15-day injured list with hip inflammation since June 16, but he's on track to come off the shelf later this month or in early August. While Povich has racked up 68 strikeouts against 23 walks in 64 2/3 innings with the Orioles this season, he has still stumbled to a 5.15 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.

Cade Povich Records Six Strikeouts in Rehab Start

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Cade Povich (hip) took the mound for Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. Last time out, Povich threw three scoreless innings at High-A Aberdeen. On Saturday, Povich allowed one run on three hits while striking out six batters across 3 innings of work. It's unclear if Povich will be cleared to return or require another rehab start after this outing. Honestly, it's uncertain if Povich has a spot in the O's rotation at the moment. The right-hander might be forced to stick in Triple-A until a spot opens up. It's possible that the O's make a few trades at the deadline and Povich joins the rotation after that. For now, Povich isn't someone that needs to be rostered in fantasy formats.

Cade Povich Perfect in Rehab Outing

Baltimore Orioles left-hander Cade Povich (hip) posted a lights-out performance in a High-A rehab start on Sunday. Povich threw three perfect innings and recorded three strikeouts on 30 pitches (23 strikes). The 25-year-old has been on the 15-day injured list since mid-June and recently suffered a setback, making Sunday's excellent outing all the more encouraging. The Orioles expect Povich to return sometime after the All-Star break. Povich has gone 2-5 with a subpar 5.15 ERA across 13 appearances (12 starts) and 64 2/3 innings, though he has logged an impressive 68 strikeouts against 23 walks.

Cade Povich Plays Catch on Saturday

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Cade Povich (hip) was able to play catch without any issues on Saturday. This is good news for the right-hander who has been out since mid-June due to left hip soreness. The Orioles shut down Povich last week after he was hit hard during a rehab outing. A second opinion confirmed the same injury, so Povich isn't dealing with anything new. There remains no timetable for his return to the mound. He'll likely still need to ramp up for a few weeks before returning to the mound. Povich might not be back in the mix until August. He's not worth holding through the injury in fantasy leagues.

Cade Povich Suffers Setback on Rehab Assignment

Baltimore Orioles left-hander Cade Povich (hip) is dealing with more left-hip soreness and has been pulled off of his minor-league rehab assignment, according to The Baltimore Banner's Andy Kostka. The next step for Povich is to be determined. The setback essentially means that Povich will not be a candidate to rejoin Baltimore's starting rotation before the mid-July All-Star break. The 25-year-old southpaw threw 75 pitches in a rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk last Thursday but apparently didn't recover well from that outing and will now be given some time to rest. Rookie right-hander Brandon Young will make another spot start against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday and could stick around in the big leagues up until the All-Star break now that Povich has had a setback. Povich has increased his strikeout rate and lowered his walk rate in his second big-league season but still sports an ERA over 5.00.

Cade Povich Strikes Out Three in Rehab Outing

Baltimore Orioles left-handed pitcher Cade Povich (hip) tossed 75 pitches in his rehab outing on Thursday against Triple-A Gwinnett. In this outing, the lefthander struggled as he logged just 4 1/3 innings of work and allowed seven hits and five runs (three earned). He struck out just three batters and allowed one walk. Povich hit the 15-day IL with left hip inflammation earlier in June. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be in the mix to return to Baltimore next week, given that he was already able to take on a sizeable workload in his first rehab outing. Before his injury, the southpaw struggled, posting a high 5.15 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP through 64 2/3 innings of work. Given his inconsistencies in the majors, he is only worth targeting in deep AL-only formats.
