Orioles
Baltimore Orioles rookie starting pitcher Cade Povich took advantage of a favorable matchup, turning in his best career start in Tuesday's 9-0 win over the White Sox. Povich pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts. The 24-year-old has shown some promise throughout his time with the O's this season but owns a 2-7 record with a 5.76 ERA, a 1.60 WHIP, and a 7.13 K/9 rate in 12 starts and 59 1/3 IP. Povich is slated to face the Red Sox on the road in his next start and should have the opportunity to make more starts throughout September, given the injuries the O's have suffered in their rotation. While he may be a name to watch in keeper or dynasty leagues, fantasy managers may want to avoid Povich down the stretch of re-draft leagues due to his inconsistent performance.

Cade Povich To Start On Saturday
The Baltimore Orioles plan to call up left-handed pitching prospect Cade Povich from Triple-A Norfolk in order to make the start on Saturday at Camden Yards against the division-rival Boston Red Sox, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the decision. Right-hander Albert Suarez, who was originally scheduled to start on Saturday, has been moved back and forth between the rotation and bullpen this year. The 24-year-old Povich is the No. 5 prospect for the O's, per MLB Pipeline, and has struggled to a 6.27 ERA and 1.69 WHIP with 25 strikeouts and 23 walks in his first eight big-league starts in 2024. In two starts for Norfolk since his last MLB stint, Povich has allowed six runs with 11 K's and two walks while completing seven innings in both outings. The youngster will be a risky fantasy streamer against Boston this weekend.

Cade Povich To Start Game 2 Of Doubleheader
The Baltimore Orioles recalled rookie left-hander Cade Povich from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, and he will start the second game of the team's doubleheader against the visiting division-rival Toronto Blue Jays. Povich, the team's No. 8 prospect per MLB Pipeline, struggled in his first seven major-league starts before being sent back to Norfolk, going 1-4 with a 6.27 ERA (6.27 FIP) and a 1.54 WHIP with 24 strikeouts and 18 walks in 33 innings pitched. The 24-year-old southpaw also allowed seven home runs, so he makes for a pretty volatile streaming option on Monday's slate of action. Povich, a former third-round pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2021 out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, allowed six earned runs while walking four and striking out two in 5 1/3 innings in a loss in his big-league debut against the Blue Jays back on June 6.

Cade Povich To Pitch Game 2 Of Doubleheader
Baltimore Orioles beat reporter Jake Rill is reporting that the club will promote pitching prospect Cade Povich from Triple-A Norfolk to start Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader versus the division rival Toronto Blue Jays. The left-hander is the Orioles No. 8 prospect per MLB Pipeline and has made seven starts at the big-league level thus far. Although he got roughed up for eight runs in his second career start, he has allowed three earned runs or less in his six other starts. The potential remains high for the left-hander, but even with a good start, it is likely that he will return to Norfolk following the contest. Although the Blue Jays do not offer the biggest threat, it is probably best to avoid Povich in this contest as it is riskier than rewarding to roll with him on Monday.

Cade Povich Optioned To Triple-A
Baltimore Orioles starting pitching prospect Cade Povich was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. In a corresponding move, Baltimore promoted right-handed pitcher Vinny Nittoli from Triple-A to fill the roster spot. The former third-round selection made his major league debut on June 6 and made seven starts in his first major league stint. Across 33 innings, the southpaw posted a 6.27 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and an 18:24 BB:K ratio. While his statistics do not look great, he did allow three runs or less in five of his seven starts. However, in the other two starts, he allowed six or more runs, which significantly affected his ratios. Earlier this season at Norfolk, the Nebraska product posted a solid 3.18 ERA and 1.11 WHIP and should be expected to return to the major leagues later this summer once he works out his struggles.

Cade Povich Bounces Back Against Braves
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Cade Povich bounced back in a big way in Wednesday's win over the visiting Atlanta Braves, throwing six scoreless innings with six strikeouts without factoring into the decision. After busting for fantasy managers with six runs allowed in his first big-league start on Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays, Povich looked more the part of a top prospect with Wednesday's effort against a struggling, but still dangerous lineup. With the O's seemingly running with a six-man rotation at the moment, the 24-year-old left-hander tentatively projects to toe the rubber during next Wednesday's showdown on the road against the division-rival New York Yankees. Despite the bounce-back showing, Povich would still be hard to trust in the Bronx.

Cade Povich Continues To Impress
Baltimore Orioles starting pitching prospect Cade Povich has been excellent through 10 starts with Triple-A Norfolk. In 53 2/3 innings, he's posted a 2.35 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts. He performed especially well in April, posting a 1.03 ERA, a 0.76 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts over 26 1/3 innings. He took a step back in May, but he was still impressive, finishing this month with a 3.62 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts over 27 1/3 innings. There's a solid chance of Povich making his MLB debut in 2024. Considering his success in Triple-A, he could be pitching in the majors by the end of the summer.

Cade Povich Continues To Dominate Triple-A
Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Cade Povich improved to 3-1 with another strong performance for Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. The lefty tossed six innings and allowed five hits, one run, four walks and struck out five on the evening. Povich has been dominant this season for Norfolk and is the proud owner of a miniscule 1.11 ERA. More impressive is the swing-and-miss ability that Povich provides with 45 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings. At this point, Povich, like many of his teammates at Norfolk has shown he is worthy of the next step, but the Orioles big-league roster is just too good to deploy all their young talent at the moment. The Orioles did place ace Grayson Rodriguez on the 15-day injured on Tuesday, but starting pitchers Kyle Bradish and John Means are both returning to the Orioles rotation. Povich should get a chance at some point in 2024, but he will need another injury or Means or Bradish to struggle to get the call. Povich will be worth adding in most formats when his name does get called.

Cade Povich Strikes Out Nine On Friday
Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Cade Povich threw 5 1/3 shutout innings with nine punchouts en route to his second victory of the season. Povich holds a cumulative 0.83 ERA and 0.74 WHIP across 21 2/3 innings with 33 total strikeouts. The southpaw is making significant strides at Triple-A this season compared to the high 5.36 ERA and 1.35 WHIP he held last season and is quickly approaching his major-league debut. Povich should be rostered in all dynasty and keeper leagues and is even worth looking into in deeper redraft formats, as he will have high strikeout upside when he receives his final promotion.

Cade Povich Opens Year With Two Strong Outings
Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Cade Povich was no stranger to our Hot Prospects series last year, and he quickly returns to the list in 2024. The southpaw has a solid four-pitch mix headlined by his mid-90s fastball, but he's just as effective when throwing his slider, curveball, and changeup. Control has been an issue for him in the past, but he's maintained an impressive 11.45 K/9 and 2.45 BB/9 this season. Povich was dominant last week as he made his first two starts of the season. Through 11 innings, he allowed just one run on three hits and three walks. He also struck out 14 batters. Look for Povich to reach the majors this season, perhaps sooner rather than later.
