Carson Benge in the Midst of a Rookie-Year Breakout?

New York Mets rookie outfielder Carson Benge has quickly become a lineup regular and table-setter for the Mets in 2026 in his first year in the big leagues, batting .257/.316/.385 with a .701 OPS, seven home runs, nine doubles, two triples, 26 RBI, 11 stolen bases, and 39 runs scored in his first 72 big-league games across 288 plate appearances. The 23-year-old former 19th overall pick out of Oklahoma State University in the 2024 MLB draft went 3-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in the team's 6-4 win over the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday out of the leadoff spot, and he's now hitting .293/.338/.533 with four home runs, six RBI, and 14 runs scored in his last 18 games. The left-handed-hitting outfielder has also gone 16-for-49 (.327) with two of his seven home runs against left-handed pitchers. In what has become a lost season for New York, Benge should be a lineup regular all year, and his recent hot streak makes him a must-add off the waiver wire for his high-end upside in multiple fantasy categories. Benge is currently rostered in only 44% of Yahoo leagues.

Carson Benge Deserves More Attention in Fantasy Leagues

It has been a lost season for the New York Mets, primarily due to injuries to their key players, but rookie outfielder Carson Benge has been a bright spot, and he should be rostered in more fantasy baseball leagues amid his recent hot streak. The 23-year-old former 19th overall pick in 2024 out of Oklahoma State University has more than held his own in his first 65 big-league games, slashing .260/.318/.396 with a .713 OPS, seven home runs, nine doubles, a triple, 26 RBI, 10 stolen bases, and 35 runs scored across 255 plate appearances. Benge has been even better so far in nine games in June, going 11-for-37 (.297) with three home runs, a triple, five RBI, seven runs scored, and a stolen base in 38 plate appearances. He even had a five-hit game on June 7 that included a home run and a triple. Although he hasn't had much exposure to lefties, he is hitting .350 (14-for-40) against them with two of his seven home runs on the year. Benge deserves more consideration from fantasy managers, as he's rostered in just under half of Yahoo leagues.

Carson Benge Should Attract More Interest Off Waiver Wire After Five-Hit Game

New York Mets rookie outfielder Carson Benge set the table nicely in the team's 7-3 victory over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park on Sunday in the series finale, going 5-for-5 at the plate out of the leadoff spot with a home run, a triple, two RBI, and three runs scored. Benge is now hitting .265/.325/.408 with a .733 OPS, seven home runs, 26 RBI, 34 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases in his first 62 big-league games across 243 plate appearances as an everyday player for the last-place Mets. The 23-year-old's strong outing on Sunday in San Diego was the first five-hit game of his career, and he finished just a double short of hitting for the cycle. After his five-hit performance at Petco, Benge is now hitting .360 (9-for-25) with three home runs, a triple, five RBI, six runs scored, and a stolen base in six games so far in June. The young outfielder is red-hot at the plate and provides a nice power/speed profile for fantasy managers in the short and long term. Benge is only rostered in 39% of Yahoo leagues and should start picking up steam as a waiver-wire pickup this week.

Carson Benge Cooling Off at the Plate, Still Flashing Tools in Rookie Season

New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge has struggled at the plate recently, hitting just .115 over his last seven games. The 23-year-old showed strong form in mid-May with six multi-hit performances across eight games, but his production has cooled since that stretch. The early-career upside remains clear, but consistency continues to be the primary hurdle. Through 54 games in his rookie season, Benge is slashing .242/.308/.326 with a .634 OPS. He continues to stand out defensively and on the bases, including a 93rd percentile baserunning run value and 98th percentile arm strength. Benge should remain in the lineup regularly as the Mets evaluate their young outfield options, but his fantasy value depends on whether the bat can stabilize.

Carson Benge Emerging as a High-Upside Waiver-Wire Target

New York Mets rookie outfielder Carson Benge got off to a rough start to his MLB career in the early portion of 2026, hitting .189 with a .525 OPS across 97 plate appearances through the end of April. However, the 23-year-old has turned the corner in May, hitting .307/.378/.398 with one home run, 12 RBI, 16 runs scored, and three stolen bases across 98 plate appearances so far this month. Benge's 8.0% barrel rate for the season likely limits his power upside. Still, he should provide fantasy managers with 15-plus homer power over the course of a full season while bringing surplus value in the speed and batting average categories. Benge has also batted in the leadoff spot in the Mets' lineup in each of his last 14 games played, helping him rack up counting stats. In leagues where he's not already rostered, Benge profiles as a steady cross-category contributor with upside to target on the waiver wire.

Carson Benge Starting to Turn the Corner at MLB Level

New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge needed a little time to acclimate to the majors, but he seems to have found his stride lately. Over his last 10 games, the rookie has gone 14-for-36 with four extra-base hits, seven RBI, four walks, and six strikeouts. He has also stolen a base in back-to-back games. The 2024 first-round pick doesn't have a ton of power, but he's been putting the ball in play, and we've always known that he runs well. His defensive versatility has also helped him get in the lineup more often, as he has 8+ appearances in each of the three outfield spots this year. Given Benge's average-at-best power, we'd like to see him cut down on his 21.1% strikeout rate. Otherwise, though, he's been a much-needed addition to the Mets' lineup while inching his way closer to the fantasy radar. He currently ranks #76 among outfielders in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings, and he's rostered in 12% of leagues.

Carson Benge Leading Off for Second Straight Day

New York Mets rookie outfielder Carson Benge will serve as the team's leadoff hitter for the second straight day on Saturday for Game 2 of the series in Chicago against the Cubs and right-hander Jameson Taillon at Wrigley Field, according to MLB.com. Benge went 1-for-4 in the team's ninth straight loss to the Cubs on Friday. The Mets are trying anything to get their bats going without star outfielder Juan Soto (calf). They currently rank 28th in MLB with a .632 team OPS as they head into Saturday's game at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. Benge's DFS value will increase for the second straight game in the leadoff spot, but since hitting a home run in his major-league debut on Opening Day, he's been pretty ice-cold at the plate. The former 19th overall pick in 2024 out of Oklahoma State is hitting just 158 (9-for-57) with three RBI, five stolen bases, five runs scored, six walks, and 16 strikeouts in his first 17 big-league games.

Carson Benge Hitting Leadoff on Friday Against Cubs

New York Mets rookie outfielder Carson Benge is starting in right field and is hitting leadoff for Friday's series opener in Chicago at Wrigley Field against the Cubs and right-hander Edward Cabrera, according to MLB.com. With Benge moving up to leadoff, shortstop Francisco Lindor will drop down to the three-hole for the struggling Mets lineup. New York heads into Friday's action on an eight-game losing streak without star outfielder Juan Soto (calf). Benge, 23, hit a home run in his major-league debut on Opening Day, but it's been downhill since then. The former 19th overall pick in 2024 out of Oklahoma State is hitting just .151/.237/.226 with a homer, three RBI, five stolen bases, five runs scored, six walks, and 15 strikeouts in 59 plate appearances over his first 16 MLB games. Hitting leadoff will give him a fantasy boost, but it probably won't last for long, with Soto expected to come off the IL at some point next week for the Mets.

With Carson Benge Slumping, Is It Time To Move On?

New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge homered on Opening Day but has had a hard time since then. In his first 11 games of the season, Benge is only 4-for-37 (.108) with three singles to go with that home run. He has contributed four stolen bases, but he has also struck out 12 times for a 28.6% K%. He hasn't had a barrel since that Opening Day dinger, and his hard-hit rate is only 44%. Benge still has speed and plenty of long-term potential, so if you can hold him in deep leagues, I still like his potential to turn things around later in the year. However, in shallow leagues with plenty of strong pickups available on the waiver wire, it may be time to move on from Benge and look to pick him back up later if he gets going.

Carson Benge Viewed as Priority Waiver-Wire Target

New York Mets outfield prospect Carson Benge turned in a strong showing in his MLB debut on Thursday and is a top waiver-wire target. In his MLB debut on Thursday afternoon, Benge drew the start in right field and did not disappoint, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a stolen base, and two walks. Benge was in competition for the starting right-field job throughout spring training and ultimately claimed the role. In camp, the former 19th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft posted a strong .366/.435/.439 line with an .874 OPS. Last summer, Benge spent his time at High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A. He would finish the campaign carrying an overall .281/.385/.472 line with 15 home runs and 22 stolen bases (over 116 games). Given his clear starting role in one of the sport's most potent lineups and five-category skill set, Benge should be added in all formats ahead of Week 2 and be viewed as a starting-caliber outfielder.
