Jonah Tong Potentially Turning Corner, Still a Risky Stash Option

New York Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong has strung together a pair of back-to-back solid outings for Triple-A Syracuse, yielding a total of two earned runs on seven hits and six walks while striking out 12 batters in 8 2/3 innings pitched. The Mets' top pitching prospect has had an underwhelming season overall, pitching to a 5.15 ERA (6.10 FIP), 1.47 WHIP, and a 14.2 percent K-BB% in 21 starts (94 1/3 IP). The right-hander made three appearances for the Mets earlier this year out of the bullpen, but was mostly ineffective with a 3.60 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 7:7 BB:K in 10 IP. If these last two starts are the beginning of a trend in the right direction, then the 6-foot-1 hurler could find himself back in Queens before the year is out. There is plenty of strikeout potential, but until he shows better control and effectiveness in upcoming starts, the 23-year-old is merely a speculative stash option in deeper leagues in hopes he can help out as the fantasy playoffs approach.

Jonah Tong Hopes Improved Results Lead to Spot in Mets' Rotation

New York Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong tossed four innings of one-run ball in his last start for Triple-A Syracuse but got a no-decision after walking four batters and giving up four hits and striking out six. Other than a start before his most recent one when he gave up five earned runs, Tong has actually been quite good for Syracuse and could be looked at to make another appearance for the big-league club before the season ends. For the Mets this season, Tong pitched three relief appearances and recorded a 1-1 record after allowing four earned runs in 10 innings pitched. Tong is the No. 5 prospect for the Mets and boasts a 60-grade fastball-changeup combination. The right-hander has pitched in a starting role at Syracuse this year and is trying to get back into the Mets' rotation before the end of the season.

Jonah Tong Bottoms Out, Falls From Redraft Stash Ranks

Just when it looked like New York Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong might be ready for another shot in the big leagues after posting a 1.84 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings pitched over three starts, the right-hander got roughed up for six runs (five earned) on five hits -- all of which were home runs -- along with one walk and a hit batter while striking out three in five innings of work in his latest outing. After a 2025 in which he posted a 1.43 ERA and struck out 179 batters in 113 2/3 innings pitched (mostly at Double-A), the Mets' top-ranked prospect now owns a 5.46 ERA and 1.47 WHIP through 19 starts at Syracuse, though the strikeout totals remain high at 26.9 percent. The 23-year-old may get another shot in the majors this year, but it could be as a reliever again like he was earlier this season. Either way, he doesn't warrant stash consideration at this point in most redraft leagues.

Jonah Tong a Good Stash Candidate Despite Rough Last Start

New York Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong had a rough outing in his last start for the Syracuse Mets on Wednesday, giving up five home runs and five earned runs in five innings pitched. Tong has pitched with mixed results for Triple-A Syracuse this season, going 3-6 overall with a 5.46 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. He does have 103 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings which is a good sign that he has greater than a strikeout per inning. Tong had a three-game stint with the big league club earlier this season out of the bullpen and allowed four earned runs in 10 innings pitched. Tong, however, has pitched primarily as a starter at the Triple-A level and has struggled to find his top-notch form. It's still worth monitoring Tong because he could be a useful pitcher if he is given a shot to start again for the Mets. The 23-year-old right-hander has shown flashes at the major league level and could be good if called upon again.

Jonah Tong Heating Up at Triple-A Syracuse

New York Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong is starting to heat up at Triple-A Syracuse, turning in a very solid month of July with a 2-0 record in five starts with a 3.65 ERA and 1.34 WHIP to go with 29 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings pitched. Tong has major league experience with the Mets at age 23 and is looking to find his way back with the big league club. This season, Tong pitched three games with New York and came away with a 1-1 record and 3.60 ERA 1.50 WHIP. He had seven strikeouts in 10 innings pitched. That stint of three games came in relief, so Tong has shown the ability to work as both a starter and reliever. In the minors this season, though, Tong has been used solely as a starter and that would no doubt be best case scenario for fantasy. He is still ranked as their No. 2 overall prospect and offers a 70-grade fastball with a 60-grade changeup. He is definitely worth stashing in the midst of his hot streak at Triple-A hoping for a big league encore as a starter this time around.

Jonah Tong Still Worth Stashing Amid Rough Return to Triple-A?

New York Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong is hardly making the case for a return to the majors in the near future after being sent back to Triple-A earlier this month. The Mets' top-ranked prospect has yielded 17 runs (13 earned) on 25 hits and 10 walks in 18 innings pitched in the four starts for Syracuse since June 9. Not that he was having much success before his promotion to the big league club back in May, and now for the season, the right-hander owns a 5.95 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and a 14.5 percent K-BB% in 56 IP. It's a far cry from the 1.43 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 29.9 percent K-BB% that he posted across Double-A and Triple-A last year. Still, the 6-foot-1 hurler will likely get another shot with the big league club at some point this season, however, he was used in long relief the last time up, and if that is the case next time, he'll hold little fantasy value. With his talent, managers should keep the 23-year-old on their radar, but he's not worth stashing at the moment.

Jonah Tong Optioned to Triple-A After Rough Outing on Tuesday

The New York Mets are optioning starting pitcher Jonah Tong to Triple-A Syracuse, per Will Sammon of The Athletic. Tong followed opener Huascar Brazoban on Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners and struggled, allowing five hits, five runs (four earned), and two walks while striking out four across 3 1/3 innings of work. The 22-year-old has showcased huge strikeout stuff in the minor leagues, recording a 40.5% strikeout rate across 113 2/3 innings in 2025 and a 32.7% strikeout rate across 38 Triple-A innings this season. However, he hasn't been able to put it together at the big-league level in his limited opportunities, recording a 6.28 ERA and 1.67 WHIP across 28 2/3 career MLB innings. Tong remains a pitching prospect worth monitoring, but he's probably safe to drop in most fantasy formats for the time being.

Mets Expect "A Lot" From Jonah Tong

New York Mets pitcher Jonah Tong pitched well during his season debut against the Miami Marlins on Friday. Tong tossed three scoreless innings with two strikeouts in what ended up being a loss for the Mets. The team hasn't officially announced its rotation past this weekend, but Tong has earned a longer look at the big league level. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza recently mentioned in a presser that the organization expects a lot from Tong. The 22-year-old is currently working in a bulk-type role right now, but figures to move into the starting rotation at some point. It's clear that Tong isn't going away anytime soon, and his value should be on the rise after a solid debut on Friday.

Jonah Tong Promoted to MLB Roster, Worth a Pickup for Strikeout Upside?

The New York Mets recalled top pitching prospect Jonah Tong from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday ahead of their series opener against the division-rival Miami Marlins, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic. In a corresponding move, veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel was designated for assignment. Tobias Myers will make the start in Miami on Friday, but the right-handed Tong could be used as the team's bulk reliever in his return to the majors. Per MLB Pipeline, Tong is considered New York's No. 2 prospect, behind only outfielder A.J. Ewing. The 22-year-old Canadian hurler made his big-league debut last year and made five starts, going 2-3 with a bloated 7.71 ERA and 1.77 WHIP with 22 strikeouts and nine walks across 18 2/3 innings. Before his call-up this year, Tong went 1-3 at Syracuse with an ugly 5.68 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 24 walks in nine starts (38 innings), but he also struck out 55 batters. For his strikeout upside alone, Tong is worth a look in mixed fantasy leagues as a potential long-term replacement in the Mets' starting rotation for Clay Holmes (leg). Tong is currently rostered in only 6% of Yahoo leagues, so the young prospect with a funky delivery is widely available.

Jonah Tong is a Possibility to Earn MLB Start

New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Jonah Tong is a "possibility to start" a game in Miami this weekend against the division-rival Marlins to give extra rest to the starting rotation, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post. Tong was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, leading to speculation that he was on the verge of being called up to the major leagues for the first time in 2026. The 22-year-old Canadian, who is the Mets' No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, made his big-league debut in 2025 and struggled in five starts, allowing 20 runs (16 earned) on 24 hits (three homers) while walking nine and striking out 22 in 18 2/3 innings. Tong hasn't exactly been lights-out at Syracuse this year, either, with a 1-3 record, 5.68 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 24 walks in 38 innings, but he also has 55 strikeouts in nine starts. The Mets are looking for an arm to stabilize their rotation with Clay Holmes (leg) out for the foreseeable future, and Tong could be that guy. Tong's funky mechanics have proven difficult to repeat, but if he figures it out, he will be a fast riser in the fantasy community.
