Angels Recall Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Chase Silseth was called up to the big league club on Sunday before the Angels' game against the Chicago Cubs. Silseth ended up pitching in that game and threw one scoreless frame, allowing two hits, one walk, and one strikeout. Silseth has some history with the Angels as a starter over the past few seasons, and has since transitioned to a relief role in July of this year. Since doing so, he has been very solid. In Triple-A Salt Lake, he threw 8 2/3 scoreless frames while striking out 13 over his last nine appearances. Now with the big league club again, it's likely he will get some lower-leverage situations out of the bullpen and work his way up to earning more high-leverage situations. For now, Silseth will not get any, if any, close situations, making his fantasy value reliant on long relief outings and holds.

Chase Silseth Optioned To Triple-A

The Los Angeles Angels have optioned right-handed pitcher Chase Silseth to Triple-A Salt Lake. Silseth was competing for a spot in the rotation but fell short. Last season, the right-hander logged just eight innings in the majors before needing elbow surgery. In 2023, Silseth logged a career-high 52 1/3 innings in the major leagues and held a 3.96 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP. He tallied 56 strikeouts but served up a hefty 24 free passes. Across 74 career innings at the Triple-A level, the Arizona product has posted a 4.26 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP. Silseth has tallied just 65 strikeouts while showing weak control as he served up 38 free passes. Fantasy managers should expect Silseth to be in the mix to return to the majors later in the summer. As a result, Jack Kochanowicz, Reid Detmers, and Sam Bachman will likely be the favorites to land the final spot in the rotation.

Chase Silseth Has No Ligament Damage

An MRI on Los Angeles Angels right-hander Chase Silseth's right elbow has revealed inflammation but no ligament damage. The 23-year-old said he received a second opinion, but the doctors agreed on only inflammation, and he hopes to return to action in three weeks. It's certainly big news for everyone involved given the rash of elbow injuries across the league early in the 2024 season, while Silseth has seemingly avoided disaster after a solid debut season in 2023. Silseth had a 3.96 ERA across 16 outings (eight starts) with the Halos a season ago while also working to an impressive 2.96 ERA 11 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake. The youngster is worth a short-term injury stash in deeper leagues.

Angels Place Chase Silseth On 15-Day Injured List

The Los Angeles Angels placed right-handers Chase Silseth (elbow) and Guillo Zuniga (pectoral) on the 15-day injured list on Monday and selected the contracts of right-handers Carson Fulmer and Hunter Strickland from the minors in corresponding moves. The club also designated infielder Livan Soto and right-hander Zach Plesac for assignment. Silseth is dealing with right-elbow inflammation, which could be part of the reason why he allowed six runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out 12 over eight innings in his first two starts of the year. With the 23-year-old out for at least the next two weeks, right-hander Jose Soriano will jump into the Halos' starting rotation and will make his first start of 2024 in a shy-away matchup on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Soriano should only be added in AL-only leagues for pitching depth.

Chase Silseth Ends Spring On High Note

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Chase Silseth dominated his final start of the Cactus League on Tuesday versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Silseth went five innings and allowed just two hits with two runs, no walks and 10 strikeouts. It was a very impressive outing for the 23-year-old against one of the top offenses in the league. For the spring, Silseth finishes with a 2.03 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings. Silseth split time between the bullpen and rotation in limited time last year with eight starts in 16 games and had a respectable 3.96 ERA. Silseth will look to build off his spring success and makes for a fine dart throw in deeper leagues.

Chase Silseth Scheduled To Start On Friday

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Chase Silseth (concussion) was at Angel Stadium on Monday and is scheduled to return from the seven-day injured list to start on Friday, Sept. 29, against the Oakland Athletics. Silseth was hit on the head with an errant throw on Aug. 26 and had a 30-pitch minor-league rehab outing with Triple-A Salt Lake on Sept. 17, giving up two runs on three hits with two walks in one-third of an inning. He made a second rehab start on Sept. 22 and is now ready to rejoin the starting rotation for one last start in 2023. The 23-year-old will have an excellent matchup in his final appearance of the year, but he also might not be able to go very deep in the start, making him a pretty shaky streamer for those still in competition for a fantasy trophy.

Chase Silseth Walks Four In Rehab Outing

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Chase Silseth (concussion) made his second minor-league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Salt Lake and allowed no earned runs on two hits while walking four and striking out four in 3 1/3 innings of work. Silseth was hit on the head by an errant throw on Aug. 26 before landing on the seven-day concussion injured list. His first rehab outing saw him throw 30 pitches for Salt Lake on Sept. 17, giving up two runs on three hits while walking two in just one-third of an inning. If he bounces back well after his start on Friday, he could make one more start for the Angels in the big leagues before the season is over. The 23-year-old has a 4.10 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 15 outings (seven starts) for the Angels in 2023.

Chase Silseth Still Working Through Discomfort

Los Angeles Angels manager Phil Nevin said that right-hander Chase Silseth (concussion) is still working through discomfort as he tries to return from a concussion. Silseth was hit in the head by an errant infield throw on Aug. 26 but avoided a serious injury. "He's good. Every once in a while, he'll feel a little something when he's throwing and he gets really built up," Nevin said. "But that's diminishing each day, which is comforting to us." The 23-year-old was hospitalized after the injury but was initially cleared for a concussion. With time running out in the 2023 regular season and the Angels now out of the playoff picture, it's very possible that Silseth won't pitch again this year.

Chase Silseth Lands On Seven-Day Injured List

The Los Angeles Angels placed right-hander Chase Silseth (head) on the seven-day concussion injured list (retroactive to Aug. 27) on Tuesday and recalled left-hander Kenny Rosenberg from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Silseth took an errant throw to the head during his start on Saturday against the New York Mets. The 23-year-old had to be hospitalized but has since been released and was cleared for a concussion. He avoided a serious injury and should be ready to return to the team's starting rotation when he's eligible to be activated. Until he's able to return, the Halos will likely roll with a five-man rotation. Silseth has gone 4-1 on the year with a 4.10 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings over 15 appearances (seven starts).

Chase Silseth Released From Hospital

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Chase Silseth (head), who was hit in the head by an errant throw on Saturday against the New York Mets, was evaluated at a local hospital in New York and was later released. He hasn't been placed on the injured list, but the Angels will continue to be cautious with him, as he's dealing with swelling and a headache. "He's got a pretty good lump on his noggin and a headache, but everything checked out well last night," manager Phil Nevin said. The 23-year-old had been pitching well since rejoining the starting rotation in mid-July, posting a 3.34 ERA in six starts with 38 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings. He had tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings against the Mets before a runner scored on the play in which he was hit in the head. If Silseth ends up missing time, the Angels could shift to a five-man rotation of Lucas Giolito, Patrick Sandoval, Reid Detmers, Tyler Anderson and Griffin Canning.
