Daylen Lile Offers High-Floor Appeal as a Waiver Wire Target

Across his first 144 plate appearances of 2026, Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile is hitting .260/.326/.389 with three home runs, 14 RBI, 20 runs scored, and one stolen base. The 23-year-old has established himself as the everyday left fielder in Washington and regularly bats in the middle of his team's lineup, which has helped him rack up counting stats. With above-average walk and strikeout rates of 9% and 18.1%, Lile brings quality plate skills to the table that should provide him with a stable production floor. He also batted .299 in 351 plate appearances for the Nationals in 2025, so Lile could offer some batting average upside for fantasy managers. He may not stand out in any one area, but managers in need of a steady outfielder may want to consider targeting him on the waiver wire.

Daylen Lile Stays Hot With Another Home Run on Wednesday

Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile is on a power binge of late and should start attracting more interest off the waiver wire if he keeps it up. Lile went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the division-rival Atlanta Braves in D.C. The 23-year-old outfielder now has three home runs in his last five games, including five extra-base hits during that span. To start his first full season in the majors, Lile is slashing .282/.333/.437 with a .770 OPS, three home runs, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored, and a stolen base in 111 plate appearances across 24 games played. The former second-rounder in 2021 has quickly become a regular in Washington's everyday lineup after hitting .299 (96-for-321) with nine long balls, 41 RBI, 51 runs scored, and eight stolen bases in 91 games in his rookie campaign in 2025. Lile has also hit safely in eight of his last 10 games going into Thursday's series finale against Atlanta. He's currently rostered in 57% of Yahoo leagues, but that number figures to go up in the coming days.

Daylen Lile Projected to Start in Right Field for Nationals

MLB.com's Jessica Camerato and Paige Leckie have Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile starting in right field for the team going into the 2026 regular season this week. Lile will get the nod next to left fielder James Wood and center fielder Jacob Young after the team surprisingly optioned Dylan Crews to Triple-A Rochester at the end of spring training. Outfield prospect Robert Hassell III is also beginning the year at Rochester. Lile, a former second-round pick in 2021, made his major-league debut in 2025 and hit an impressive .299/.347/.498 with an .845 OPS, nine home runs, 41 RBI, 51 runs, and eight stolen bases in 351 plate appearances over 91 games played. The 23-year-old left-handed hitter makes plenty of contact and has emerging power and speed skills. His defense won't do him any favors, though, and he'll likely need to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump in 2026 to hold Crews off eventually. Still, there's a lot to like about his profile in dynasty/keeper leagues, and he's now firmly on the radar in mixed fantasy leagues as well. RotoBaller has Lile ranked as the No. 44 fantasy outfielder in 2026.

Daylen Lile Can Be a Great Outfield Sleeper

Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile was one of the few bright spots in a rough season for the team last year, and the 23-year-old lefty brings a ton of upside based on his ADP (average draft position) in fantasy drafts coming into his second season in the majors. He closed out last year with NL Player of the Month honors in September, and in his 91 games as a rookie, Lile hit .299 with 35 extra-base hits, including nine home runs, 15 doubles, and a club rookie record with 11 triples. Lile added eight stolen bases (in 14 attempts), 51 runs scored, 41 RBI, and finished with a 132 wRC+, .199 ISO, and .360 wOBA. He finished in the 100th percentile of qualified hitters in both xBA and LA Sweet-Spot%, showing his results were definitely not fluky. This year, he should occupy a premium spot in the batting order and bring his well-balanced skillset to a great run-producing spot in a rising young lineup. Lile's excellent contact skills give him a high floor to go with a very high ceiling, and if he carries over his momentum from the end of last season, he will be a great late-round addition.

Daylen Lile Nestling Into Large Role for 2026

Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile had an impressive rookie year, and he's looking to build on his big campaign during the 2026 season. Across his first 91 games of big-league action last year, he slashed .299/.347/.498 with nine home runs, 41 RBI, eight stolen bases, a 6.0% walk rate, a 16.0% strikeout rate, and 132 wRC+. While not a major power or speed threat, he consistently put the ball in play while keeping his walk and strikeout rates at fairly respectable clips. His defense wasn't as encouraging, though. Lile appeared in both corner outfield spots, totaling -8 OAA and -10 FRV across 624.1 innings. Presumably, he'll spend most of 2026 in left field or at designated hitter, where the effects of his subpar defense won't be felt quite as much. On a more positive note, he should play almost every day and is the leading candidate to bat third in Washington's lineup, boosting his fantasy upside. As it currently stands, he ranks as the #53 outfielder in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings for the 2026 season.

Daylen Lile Back From Illness

Washington Nationals rookie outfielder Daylen Lile (illness) is feeling good enough to return to the starting nine for Friday's series opener against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. Lile is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth against Rays right-hander Adrian Houser. The 22-year-old will make his return to the field after missing almost a week while being under the weather. The left-handed-hitting outfielder will return to a .263/.312/.396 slash line in his first 63 MLB games with the Nats in 2025. He should be in the starting lineup daily for the rest of the season against right-handed pitchers, making him fantasy relevant in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues, primarily for his speed. Lile has produced three home runs, 12 doubles, four triples, 22 RBI, 31 runs and seven steals in 239 plate appearances.

Daylen Lile Absent Again on Wednesday

Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile (illness) is out of the lineup against New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried on Wednesday. It'll be the Nationals' fourth game in a row without Lile, who hasn't played since Saturday because of an illness. The 22-year-old has hit a productive .313/.370/.448 with one homer, eight RBI, 11 runs scored, and three steals in 73 plate appearances in August. He could be back in the lineup when the Nationals start a series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday, With Lile out again on Wednesday, the Nats will go with James Wood (left field) and Dylan Crews (right field) in the outfield corners, while Riley Adams will DH, and Drew Millas will catch.

Daylen Lile Out Sick Again on Tuesday

Washington Nationals rookie outfielder Daylen Lile (illness) is still under the weather and is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's encounter on the road in the Bronx against the New York Yankees. The Nationals are going with fellow rookie Robert Hassell III in right field, and he will hit eighth against Yankees right-hander Luis Gil. In his first year in the big leagues with the Nats in 2025, Lile has held his own by hitting .263 (57-for-217) with three home runs, 22 RBI, 31 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 63 games played. The left-handed hitter probably won't return for Wednesday's series finale against lefty Max Fried, so the next chance that Lile could get to start for Washington might not come until Friday for the series opener versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Hassell is also in his rookie season and has gone 28-for-124 (.226) with two homers and 14 RBI in 42 games played.

Daylen Lile Absent from Monday's Lineup

Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile (illness) is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the New York Yankees. Nats' interim manager Miguel Cairo said Lile is sitting out this game due to an illness. The rookie outfielder is hopeful to get back in the lineup following this contest. Lile has been decent with the bat, slashing .263/.312/.396 with three home runs, 22 RBI, and seven steals in 63 games. Robert Hassell III will serve as the designated hitter and bat eighth versus right-hander Cam Schlittler on Monday.

Daylen Lile Enjoying Productive Stretch in Washington

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Daylen Lile has enjoyed a recent surge at the plate. Over his last 18 games, the No. 9-ranked prospect in the D.C. system on MLB.com has posted a .292/.343/.369 slash line with two doubles, one home run, and three stolen bases. While he has yet to show much power upside in the major leagues, he has shown solid contact skills as he tallied at least one hit in a 14-game stretch earlier in July. During his first 15 games in Washington, Lile held a .152/.200/.326 slash line with just three doubles and a home run. Earlier in the season, the 22-year-old posted an impressive .337/.407/.500 slash line with seven doubles, two long balls, and six swiped bags across his first 26 games with Triple-A. Given his steady progress in the majors, he should continue to have an everyday role after the All-Star break.
