Is Dylan Crews a Post-Hype Sleeper to Target on the Waiver Wire?

Across 100 plate appearances since being recalled from Triple-A in mid-May, Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews has struggled to a .189/.230/.337 slash line with four home runs, 14 RBI, 11 runs scored, and two stolen bases. However, the 24-year-old has begun to play a bit better of late, as he's logged a hit in six out of his last seven games. A former top prospect, Crews has had difficulty getting his MLB career off the ground to this point, owning a .622 OPS across 554 big-league plate appearances. He posted solid numbers but was not dominant in his time at Triple-A in 2026, hitting .258 with five home runs, seven stolen bases, and a 24.9% strikeout rate across 177 plate appearances. Still, Crews logged a 13.4% barrel rate and 50.9% hard-hit rate in the minors. Those marks have dropped to 9.1% and 42.9% in the Majors this season, but they still suggest that he's due for better results than what he's gotten so far. Fantasy managers may want to look at Crews on the waiver wire ahead of a possible breakout at the plate.

Dylan Crews Still Worth a Pickup Amid Slump?

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews has not enjoyed much success in his return to the majors, but the upside still keeps him on the waiver-wire radar. Crews is hitting .197 through 16 games since returning to Washington, though he showed signs of life Saturday, June 6, against the Arizona Diamondbacks by going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Crews' waiver appeal is more about upside than immediate production. The surface numbers remain light, but his 91.3 mph average exit velocity and improved strikeout profile in comparison to his 2025 rate give fantasy managers a reason to stay interested before the results fully show up. The former second-overall pick has also posted a 46.9% hard-hit rate, which is well above the average marks. Crews is best viewed as an upside waiver-wire target for managers who can afford to wait on the former top prospect as he finds his footing.

Dylan Crews Returns on Tuesday After Hand Injury

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews (hand) is starting in right field and batting sixth for Tuesday's game in D.C. against the division-rival Miami Marlins and right-hander Lake Bachar, according to MLB.com. Crews will return to the Nationals' starting lineup after missing the last two games after he was hit by a pitch in Saturday's win over the San Diego Padres. The 24-year-old former second overall pick in 2023 out of LSU has been a disappointment so far at the major-league level since breaking in with the Nats in 2024. He has gone 9-for-41 (.220) with a homer, double, three RBI, four runs scored, a stolen base, one walk, and seven strikeouts in 11 games this year since being called up, and he's slashing .212/.280/.349 with a .628 OPS in his first three years in the big leagues. Despite the slow start, Crews is still rostered in over 30% of Yahoo leagues as a post-hype, power/speed stash candidate in fantasy leagues.

Dylan Crews Extends Hitting Streak, Remains a Priority Waiver Wire Target?

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews currently owns a five-game hitting streak, and he has already emerged as an intriguing waiver wire target in fantasy baseball leagues despite being called up from Triple-A just 10 days ago. In eight games since his promotion, Crews is slashing .242/.265/.364 with one home run, one stolen base, a 2.9% walk rate, a 20.6% strikeout rate, and 75 wRC+. Those numbers aren't great, but he has reached base in all eight of those contests, and he has a hit in seven of the eight. This type of consistency makes him an intriguing waiver wire addition, especially in deeper leagues. He's available for most managers, too, as he's rostered in just 20% of fantasy baseball leagues. It's a low-risk move for managers, and it could pay off as Crews continue to play (and hit the ball well) just about every day.

Dylan Crews Homers Saturday, Worth Adding in Deeper Fantasy Leagues?

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout on Saturday. He has appeared in just five big-league games so far, going 4-for-20 with one walk, four strikeouts, and a steal. Previously, he had slashed .258/.345/.432 with five homers and seven steals across 41 Triple-A games. The results at the plate haven't been great since his promotion to the majors (or in years past), but Saturday's homer could be a sign that he's tapping into some more power going forward. We know that he has above-average power upside, as he launched 10 homers across 85 games last year. Hitting homers at a similar rate in 2026 could be enough to keep him on the fantasy radar consistently. As it stands, he's rostered in approximately 21% of fantasy baseball leagues.

Dylan Crews on Verge of Returning to Nats, Worth a Waiver-Wire Pickup?

The Washington Nationals are expected to recall outfielder Dylan Crews from Triple-A Rochester as early as Tuesday, a source familiar with the decision told Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports. Crews was demoted to Rochester at the end of spring training, but he is on the verge of returning to the big leagues after hitting .258 (40-for-155) with five home runs, 10 doubles, a triple, 20 RBI, seven stolen bases, and 30 runs scored in 41 games across 177 plate appearances for Rochester this year. In 14 games in May, though, he has hit .291/.339/.527 with two homers and seven doubles. The plan was already in place before outfielder Jacob Young (rib cage) was forced from Monday's game early after being hit by a pitch in the left rib cage. Young could be forced to the 10-day injured list to account for the corresponding roster move for Crew's promotion. The 24-year-old former second overall pick in 2023 out of LSU has been a disappointment in his 116 games in the majors so far, slashing .211/.282/.352 with a .634 OPS, 13 homers, 35 RBI, 29 steals, 35 walks, and 102 strikeouts in 454 plate appearances. But his draft pedigree alone makes Crews an interesting waiver-wire pickup, and he's currently rostered in only 32% of Yahoo leagues.

Dylan Crews Optioned to Triple-A Rochester

The Washington Nationals optioned outfielder Dylan Crews to Triple-A Rochester on Friday, per Mark Zuckerman of Nats Journal. Barring an injury, it appears as though the 24-year-old former top prospect will open the 2026 season in the Minors. Crews struggled mightily across 322 plate appearances with the Nationals in 2025, slashing .208/280/.352 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. Still, his demotion comes as a surprise, as Crews is widely considered to be one of the team's building blocks for the future as they enter another rebuilding season. Zuckerman points to Crews' spring troubles as fuel for this decision. Across 34 Grapefruit League plate appearances, Crews had recorded just three hits, none of which went for extra bases. While Crews could easily hit his way back to the big leagues with a few weeks of strong production at Triple-A, his fantasy outlook heading into 2026 has now been thrown into question.

Can Dylan Crews Establish Himself as a Productive Big-Leaguer in 2026?

Once considered one of the top prospects in all of baseball, Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews has struggled to be a consistently productive player early in his MLB career. Across 322 plate appearances in 2025, Crews hit .208/.280/.352 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. At just 24 years old, Crews still has plenty of time to develop into a quality big-leaguer. Crews also has the benefit of playing for. a rebuilding Nationals' squad that should give him plenty of runway for everyday playing time. However, Crews posted an uninspiring 38.7% hard-hit rate in 2025, and it's worth noting that he owns a .634 OPS across 454 career MLB plate appearances. He has the potential for five-category fantasy production if it all comes together, but Crews has yet to prove he can handle big-league pitching and comes with a fair degree of downside risk heading into 2026.

Dylan Crews Returns to Grapefruit League Lineup on Wednesday

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews (thumb) returned to the Grapefruit League lineup on Wednesday, starting in center field and batting sixth against Team Venezuela. Crews took three days off after injuring his left thumb during live batting practice in camp on Saturday, but he's good to go now. The 24-year-old went 1-for-9 with two runs scored and an RBI in four spring training games before his thumb injury. A lot was expected of the former second overall pick out of LSU when he eventually got to the big leagues, but that has not been the case so far through two seasons. Crews has a .211/.282/.352 slash line, .634 OPS, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 55 runs scored, and 29 stolen bases in 454 plate appearances over 116 games. An oblique injury caused him to miss significant time in 2025. With better health, fantasy managers should not give up on this power/speed threat. Crews is a post-hype sleeper that could easily be a 20-20 player in 2026.

X-Rays Come Back Negative on Dylan Crews' Thumb

X-rays on Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews' left thumb were negative, and he is considered day-to-day, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Crews suffered a left-thumb contusion after getting hit by a pitch during live batting practice in camp on Saturday and was scratched from Sunday's Grapefruit League lineup. The 24-year-old isn't back in the lineup on Monday, either, but we should see him return to the field at some point this week. So far, Crews has gone 1-for-9 at the plate in spring training with a walk and three strikeouts. The former second overall pick in 2023 out of LSU hasn't lived up to lofty expectations in his first 116 major-league games, slashing .211/.282/.352 with a .634 OPS, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 55 runs scored, and 29 stolen bases in 454 plate appearances. Crews missed considerable time last year with an oblique injury, though, and he's too young and too talented to write off completely.
