Dylan Crews Returns to Grapefruit League Lineup on Wednesday

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews (thumb) returned to the Grapefruit League lineup on Wednesday, starting in center field and batting sixth against Team Venezuela. Crews took three days off after injuring his left thumb during live batting practice in camp on Saturday, but he's good to go now. The 24-year-old went 1-for-9 with two runs scored and an RBI in four spring training games before his thumb injury. A lot was expected of the former second overall pick out of LSU when he eventually got to the big leagues, but that has not been the case so far through two seasons. Crews has a .211/.282/.352 slash line, .634 OPS, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 55 runs scored, and 29 stolen bases in 454 plate appearances over 116 games. An oblique injury caused him to miss significant time in 2025. With better health, fantasy managers should not give up on this power/speed threat. Crews is a post-hype sleeper that could easily be a 20-20 player in 2026.

X-Rays Come Back Negative on Dylan Crews' Thumb

X-rays on Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews' left thumb were negative, and he is considered day-to-day, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Crews suffered a left-thumb contusion after getting hit by a pitch during live batting practice in camp on Saturday and was scratched from Sunday's Grapefruit League lineup. The 24-year-old isn't back in the lineup on Monday, either, but we should see him return to the field at some point this week. So far, Crews has gone 1-for-9 at the plate in spring training with a walk and three strikeouts. The former second overall pick in 2023 out of LSU hasn't lived up to lofty expectations in his first 116 major-league games, slashing .211/.282/.352 with a .634 OPS, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 55 runs scored, and 29 stolen bases in 454 plate appearances. Crews missed considerable time last year with an oblique injury, though, and he's too young and too talented to write off completely.

Dylan Crews Ready to Rebound After a Rough Rookie Season?

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews was one of the top prospects in baseball coming into last season, but he had underwhelming rookie numbers. He's ready to turn the page and have a much better sophomore campaign, saying, "I think all of us have to forget about everything that's happened in the past. It's a clean slate right now." The former No. 2 overall pick is still a huge part of the Nationals' plans and should get a long leash as a primary outfielder in Washington this season. In his 85 games last year, he hit just .208 with 10 homers and 17 stolen bases. He has the potential for a much better average and more power if he can live up to his pedigree in the majors this season. He's slotted into a great lineup spot if he hits second between C.J. Abrams and James Wood, so there's definitely still some upside with Crews, who is available at a low ADP and has some definite "post-hype sleeper" potential to emerge this season.

Dylan Crews Set to Showcase Power and Speed

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews continued to show flashes of upside in the majors last year, but for the most part, struggled to produce at a very high level and looked like he could use some more time in Triple-A. The former top prospect played 85 of his 98 games in MLB last season, slashing a frustrating .208/.280/.352 with a 7.5% walk rate and 23.6% strikeout rate. He is starting to show signs of the plus power we've expected all along, and the baserunning has come along quite well, as he stole 17 bags. Still, a blend of experience and generally poor results makes him a riskier name entering the 2026 season. ZiPS projects him for 1.8 fWAR in 2026, and he currently ranks #43 in the latest RotoBaller fantasy baseball rankings for 2026.

Dylan Crews Sitting on Friday

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Javier Assad. Daylen Lile will take Crews' place in right field and bat cleanup. This season has been a struggle for Crews, the second overall pick in the 2023 draft. He got off to a poor start before sitting out almost three months with an oblique strain. Since he returned on Aug. 14, Crews has gone 13-for-62 (.210) with no homers, four RBI, 10 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 16:8 K:BB in 19 games. The 23-year-old has taken 244 trips to the plate this season and put together a .200/.279/.341 line with seven HRs, 19 RBI, 34 runs, and 14 steals.

Dylan Crews has Three Hits, Steals Two Bases in Loss

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews had a nice performance in the team's 4-1 loss to the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two stolen bases out of the eight-hole in the batting order. It was Crews' first game of the year with multiple stolen bases, and he's now 14-for-17 on stolen-base attempts in 2025. Overall, though, it has been a rather disappointing season for the 23-year-old former second overall pick in 2023. Crews has played in only 59 games this season due to an oblique strain that cost him extended time. And since he returned from that injury in the middle of August, he's hit .229/.327/.333 with no homers, four RBI and nine runs scored. Crews is barely above the Mendoza Line in his first full MLB season, but fantasy managers have to hope his big game on Friday can help him finish strong in September.

Dylan Crews Swipes Bag in First Game Post-Injury

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews wasted little time to make an impact in his first game back in nearly three months. On Thursday, the former first overall pick went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a 1:1 K:BB during their contest against the Philadelphia Phillies. Crews has been held out of action since May due to an oblique strain. Before the injury, the LSU product was off to a slow start at the plate, as he posted an underwhelming .196/.266/.354 line with two doubles, one triple, and a 48:11 K:BB. Despite his low batting average, Crews hit seven home runs and swiped an eye-catching 11 bags in just 45 games. During his MLB debut in 2024, Crews stole 12 bases in a 31-game stint. Given his ability to steal bases at a high level and potential to hit for power, Crews remains a solid No. 5 outfielder with upside in all category leagues.

Nationals Reinstate Dylan Crews From Injured List

The Washington Nationals announced on Thursday that they reinstated outfielder Dylan Crews (oblique) from the 60-day injured list and designated first baseman Nathaniel Lowe for assignment in a corresponding move. The Nationals have not released their starting lineup for Thursday's contest against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies in the series opener, but we'd be surprised if Crews was not in it. The 23-year-old second overall pick in 2023 has missed nearly three months with a strained left oblique but will be looking for more success to close out his second season in the big leagues. Crews was a disappointment for fantasy managers before going down with an injury, slashing .196/.266/.354 with a .620 OPS, seven home runs, 15 RBI, 24 runs and 11 steals in 45 games. Fantasy managers in keeper/dynasty leagues should not be giving up on him just yet.

Nationals Plan to Activate Dylan Crews on Thursday

The Washington Nationals are planning to activate outfielder Dylan Crews (oblique) off the 60-day injured list for Thursday's series opener against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, barring a setback when he serves as the designated hitter on Wednesday for Triple-A Rochester in his final minor-league rehab game. The 23-year-old former top prospect has been sidelined with a strained oblique since May 20 and will be hoping to close out his season on a high note after beginning poorly before he was hurt. The former second overall pick in 2023 out of LSU will return to a rough .196/.266/.354 slash line with seven home runs, 15 RBI, 24 runs and 11 stolen bases. He has two home runs, seven RBI, five runs and a steal in his 12 rehab games. Despite Crews' poor numbers, he should be an everyday player for the rebuilding Nats when he returns.

Dylan Crews Staying on Rehab Assignment

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews (oblique) will stay on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester through at least Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Crews, who has been on the injured list with a strained left oblique since May 21, has already played 11 games with Rochester. He just returned to playing nine innings in the outfield, though, and the Nationals want the 23-year-old to continue working on his timing at the plate. Crews has gone a productive 10-for-36 with two home rune, seven RBI, six strikeouts, and one walk with Rochester. With the Nationals, the former second overall pick slumped to a .196/.266/.354 line with seven homers, 15 RBI, 24 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases in 173 plate appearances before going on the IL.
