Cronin's bread and butter is his ability to keep the ball on the ground as he posted a 55.9% ground-ball rate with the big leagues last season alongside a 54.5% clip at the Triple-A level.

It's the second time this offseason Cronin has been DFA'd, as the White Sox cut him loose in order to make room for the signing of free-agent pitcher Erick Fedde. The 26-year-old made his MLB debut in 2023, allowing 11 earned runs in as many innings with just eight strikeouts against seven walks in that time. He was far better at Triple-A, where he posted a 3.83 ERA across 47 appearances a season ago. Given his minor-league success, Cronin should receive interest from an MLB club ahead of spring training.

A 36th-round pick of the White Sox in 2019, Cronin made his pro debut that same season and reached the big leagues in the 2023 campaign, tossing a 9.00 ERA with seven walks and eight strikeouts across just 11 innings of work. He fared much better at Triple-A where he posted a 3.83 ERA across 47 outings, locking down a pair of saves in the process. With the Astros' 40-man roster full, a corresponding move will need to be made by the club.

The right-hander was a 36th-round pick of the White Sox in the 2019 draft and made his MLB debut for the club in the 2023 season, working to a 9.00 ERA across nine appearances and 11 innings of work. He has largely fared much better in the minors as he owns a 3.81 ERA across 151 appearances in the minors since turning pro in the 2019 season. The White Sox needed to clear a 40-man roster spot after signing reliever Tim Hill to a one-year deal and it's Cronin who is the roster casualty. The 26-year-old has enough of a minor-league pedigree to latch on with another club ahead of the 2024 campaign.
