Drey Jameson Not Expected to Require Surgery

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Drey Jameson (elbow) is dealing with a bone chip in his elbow that is not expected to require surgery, according to the team. Jameson missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and his elbow has caused problems again this year. He made three appearances out of the Diamondbacks' bullpen in late April before they optioned him to Triple-A Reno. Jameson went on the seven-day injured list in the minors on May 20 with elbow inflammation. He returned to make rehab appearances in the Arizona Complex League on June 24 and June 27, but the Diamondbacks shut him down after the second of those outings. There is no timetable for the 27-year-old's return.

Drey Jameson Undergoes MRI on his Elbow

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Drey Jameson (elbow) underwent an MRI exam on his elbow on Tuesday, according to general manager Mike Hazen. Jameson felt tightness in his right elbow after making a minor-league rehab appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League last week. The results of his MRI aren't known yet, but it's another setback for the 27-year-old after he landed on Triple-A Reno's seven-day injured list on May 20 with right-elbow inflammation. He previously had surgery on his elbow in September of 2023 and missed all of last year, so it's an ominous sign. Jameson made three appearances with the D-backs early this year before being sent back to Reno in late April. We'll have a better idea of Jameson's timetable for a return once his MRI results are released, but he's unlikely to get back on a mound before the All-Star break in mid-July.

Drey Jameson Sent To Triple-A

The Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned right-handed pitcher Drey Jameson to Triple-A Reno. Jameson was unable to pitch during the 2024 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2023. During the 2023 season, Jameson logged 40 2/3 innings to the tune of a 3.42 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP. He tallied 37 punchouts and held a 10.3 percent walk rate. Across 142 career innings at the Triple-A level, Jameson has posted a 6.72 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP across 142 innings. During this stretch, Jameson made 26 starts (27 games) and tallied 133 punchouts with a high 53 walks. Fantasy managers should expect the Ball State product to operate in the bullpen at Triple-A. If he performs well, he should push for an early return to the big leagues.

Drey Jameson Faces Live Hitters

Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Drey Jameson (elbow) faced live hitters for the first time on Tuesday since undergoing Tommy John surgery. Jameson had the operation in September 2023 and is attempting to ramp up in time to make the Opening Day roster. Manager Torey Lovullo noted that his session was "electric." Jameson was able to strike out the second batter he faced. The 27-year-old pitched primarily out of the bullpen during the 2023 season and held a 3.32 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. He struck out 37 batters across 40 2/3 innings. However, he did generate a strong 30.0 percent whiff rate and a 30.5 percent chase rate, suggesting he may see some positive regression in his strikeout production when he returns to action. Fantasy managers should expect Jameson to return to the bullpen if he is cleared for Opening Day.

Drey Jameson Confident He'll Be Ready For Opening Day

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Drey Jameson (elbow), who was scheduled to throw a bullpen session at camp on Wednesday, is confident that he'll be ready to go on Opening Day. Jameson said there's "no question" he'll be ready. The 27-year-old had Tommy John surgery in September of 2023, which caused him to miss the entire 2024 season. He resumed throwing off a mound last July, so it's not all that surprising that he's ramping up even further this spring. The D-backs could bring him along slowly in spring training, but barring a setback with his right elbow, Jameson could win a spot in a low-leverage relief role for Arizona if he makes the Opening Day roster. Jameson has a upper-90s heater and wipeout slider that work well in relief. He had a 3.32 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, one save and 37 K's in 40 2/3 innings over 15 outings (three starts) for the Snakes in 2023. For now, Jameson is merely one to watch in deeper formats.

Drey Jameson Likely To Be Viewed As Reliever In 2025

The Arizona Diamondbacks will likely look at right-hander Drey Jameson (elbow) as a reliever in his first season back from Tommy John surgery in 2025. Jameson is one of the team's top prospects, but he had Tommy John surgery in September of 2023 and will be ready to go in spring training in February. He threw only 68 2/3 innings between Triple-A Reno and the majors before having surgery in 2023 and obviously didn't pitch at all in 2024, so he'll be on a strict innings limit in his return next year. If that's the direction the Snakes go in, Jameson will lack fantasy upside in 2025, but he could still be an extremely valuable piece out of Arizona's bullpen. The 27-year-old made 15 big-league appearances (three starts) for the D-backs in 2023 and had a 3.32 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, one save, 37 strikeouts and 18 walks in 40 2/3 innings.

Drey Jameson Throws First Bullpen Session

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Drey Jameson (elbow) threw his first bullpen session on Friday since having Tommy John surgery last September, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Jameson isn't going to pitch at all in 2024, but it's a notable step for the 26-year-old as he looks to be ready to go for the start of the 2025 campaign next spring. Jameson was a former 34th overall pick in 2019 out of Ball State and had an impressive MLB debut in 2022, when he went 3-0 with a 1.48 ERA (3.19 FIP) and 1.11 WHIP with 24 strikeouts and seven walks in his first four starts over 24 1/3 innings. He was used as a starter and reliever in 2023 but was more effective out of the bullpen, going a combined 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 37 K's and 18 walks in 15 outings (three starts). It remains to be seen what role he'll be in to begin the 2025 season.

Drey Jameson Not Expected To Pitch In 2024

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said he doesn't expect right-hander Drey Jameson (elbow) to pitch in 2024 after having Tommy John surgery last September. Jameson will spend all year rehabbing with the hopes of being ready to go for the start of the 2025 regular season. The 26-year-old former first-rounder in 2019 out of Ball State made his big-league debut in 2022 and has posted a strong 2.63 ERA (4.17 FIP), a 1.31 WHIP, one save, 25 walks and 61 strikeouts in 65 innings over 19 appearances (seven starts) for the D-backs in the last two years. Jameson lost out on a starting role out of camp last spring but was very effective in a relief role in Arizona's bullpen. The Diamondbacks almost certainly want Jameson to pitch in a starting role in the long-term.

Drey Jameson To Have Tommy John Surgery

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Drey Jameson (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair his UCL, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The 26-year-old has been out since early July with an elbow issue, and he'll surely miss all of the 2024 campaign. Over 15 appearances and three starts this year, Jameson posted a 3.32 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 37 strikeouts across 40 2/3 innings. The former first-round selection also added one hold and one save to his ledger. Jameson wasn't relevant in most fantasy formats, so this news won't affect many fantasy managers.

Drey Jameson Won't Have Surgery

Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Drey Jameson (elbow) will not have surgery on his UCL strain. The 25-year-old has a 3-1 record with a 3.32 ERA in 15 games this season. However, he has been on the shelf for a few weeks because of elbow inflammation, currently on the 60-day injured list. Skipper Torey Lovullo didn't know when the right-hander would return, so it's unknown if he'll be back on the bump in 2023.
