Chicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Seth Keener responded well on June 29 after posting a string of three consecutive poor performances. In this start he tossed six no-hit frames and allowed just one free pass. He struck out seven. Prior to this, the former third round selection allowed 11 earned runs in his previous 15 innings with a 1.60 WHIP. After getting a brief six inning taste of Single-A ball last summer, the 22-year-old has performed well this season with a 3.30 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 28:73 BB:K ratio. In addition, he has begun to showcase high-strikeout upside by striking out at least seven batters in five starts this season with a season-high of nine. Keener is considered the 15th best prospect in the White Sox system on MLB.com and is several seasons away from his major league debut.
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim has been on a tear at the plate during Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The switch-hitting catcher went 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored in the blowout win. Heim came out of the gate slowly but he has been getting it going with the bat lately. Over his last 15 games, Heim is 15-for-49 with two home runs and five RBI. Fantasy managers in need of help behind the plate should take a look at Heim.
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes was named to the National League All-Star team on Sunday. This is a first in what will likely be many All-Star appearances for the 22-year-old flamethrower. This season, Skenes has a 5-0 record with a 2.12 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 78/12 K/BB ratio across 10 starts. Skenes becomes the only MLB player in history to become an All-Star after being drafted the previous year. It certainly appears that the Pirates have a true ace on their hands for years to come.
Atlanta Braves starter Reynaldo Lopez threw six shutout innings in Sunday's win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The right-hander scattered two hits and three walks and struck out six. Lopez lowered his season ERA to a sparkling 1.71. The 30-year-old is 7-2 in his resurgent season with the Braves becoming a fantasy ace this season at a bargain price on draft day.
Atlanta Braves outfielder Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Sunday's win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Kelenic is now hitting .272 with 10 homers and 29 RBI this season. It was the first home run in July for the 24-year-old after hitting six homers with 14 RBI in June. Kelenic has taken on an increased role following Ronald Acuna's injury and has rewarded patient fantasy managers.
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal gave up one run in seven innings with 13 strikeouts and no walks on Sunday against the Reds to pick up his 10th win of the season. He scattered three hits in his latest dazzling start. The left-hander lowered his season ERA to 2.37 with a 0.90 WHIP. He has struck out 132 batters in 110 innings this season. Skubal (10-3) is turning in a Cy Young-quality campaign in the first half of the season.
Chicago Cubs reliever Colten Brewer (hand) broke his left hand after punching a dugout wall in disgust after exiting an appearance Saturday. He has been placed on the 60-day IL with the Cubs selecting the contract of Hunter Bigge from Triple-A Iowa as his replacement. Brewer is 0-2 this season with a 5.66 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 22 2/3 innings. Bigge had six saves at Iowa with a 0.77 ERA.
Washington Nationals third base prospect Brady House has been promoted to Triple-A Rochester. The Nationals' No. 3 overall prospect hit .234 at Double-A Harrisburg with 13 homers and 34 RBI prior to his call-up to Triple-A. The 21-year-old is another in the long line of Nationals prospects making a rapid progression through the minor leagues following the footsteps of top prospects James Wood and Dylan Crews. House has a big, physical frame at 6-foot-4 and 208 pounds and possesses 60-grade power with a 55-grade hit tool. If he impresses at Triple-A, House could earn a look at the big leagues at the end of this year, but next year might be the more likely scenario.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Austin Martin (oblique) has landed on the injured list with a right oblique strain. In a corresponding move, the Twins have recalled Matt Wallner from Triple-A St. Paul. Martin is hitting .265 this season with a homer, nine RBI, and six stolen bases in 113 at-bats. Oblique injuries can be tricky, so Martin could be looking at an extended absence.
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo (hamstring) threw 45 pitches for High-A Everett on Saturday. Woo came away from the outing feeling good after allowing two earned runs in 2 2/3 innings with a hit, two walks, and two strikeouts. The next start for the rehabbing right-hander is likely to be with the Mariners in Anaheim later this week. In eight starts for the Mariners this season, Woo is 3-1 with a 1.77 ERA and 0.69 WHIP. He is an elite pitcher when healthy but the trouble has been staying on the mound and putting together a consistent string of starts.
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (hand) left Sunday's game early after being hit by a pitch in his right hand, according to Julia Morales of the Space City Home Network. The former platinum glove winner left the game in the first inning after taking a fastball from Houston right-hander Spencer Arrighetti. Correa was replaced by Kyle Farmer. While the severity of the injury is still unknown, the 29-year-old will likely go for X-rays. Correa entered Sunday with a nine-game hitting streak and an overall .305/.376/.508 slash line through 71 games this season. If he were to miss any extended period of time, Brooks Lee, Kyle Farmer, or Willi Castro are all strong candidates to see the majority of opportunities at shortstop.
