Francisco Lindor is Very Optimistic for Opening Day

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (hand) recently underwent surgery on his left hamate bone. Lindor is back in the Mets camp now and is very optimistic that he'll be ready to play on Opening Day. The expectation is that Lindor will need about six weeks of recovery time after having surgery. He underwent surgery last Wednesday and believes he'll be ready in time for the regular season. This certainly seems like great news, but who knows if Lindor will truly be 100 percent healthy by then. His fantasy stock should still take a hit, but possibly being ready for Opening Day is fantastic news for the Mets.

Francisco Lindor to Have Surgery on his Hand on Wednesday

New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza announced that shortstop Francisco Lindor (hand) will have surgery on his right hamate bone on Wednesday, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic. The Mets announced on Tuesday that surgery was a possibility for Lindor, and he'll now go under the knife and miss significant time this spring. The 32-year-old is expected to face a six-week rehab period. The Mets are optimistic that the five-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner will be ready for Opening Day at the end of March, but nothing is guaranteed right now. With Lindor out, the Mets will most likely move new infielder Bo Bichette to the 6, with Brett Baty handling most of the work at third base. Lindor's injury news definitely makes him a more volatile draft pick in fantasy this year, but RotoBaller still has him ranked as the No. 6 shortstop after his second 30-30 season in 2025.

Francisco Lindor to be Evaluated for Stress Reaction in Left Hamate

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (hand) is set to be evaluated on Wednesday for a stress reaction in his left hamate bone, according to president of baseball operations David Stearns. The 5x All-Star may need surgery, and if he does, it typically comes with a six-week recovery timeline. The Mets are still optimistic that, even if surgery is needed, the 32-year-old would be ready in time for Opening Day on March 26. Despite a prolonged two-month downturn in midseason of last year, the switch-hitter finished with a strong .267-31-86-117-31 stat line with a .350 wOBA and 129 wRC+. That type of multi-category production has made him expensive in early 2026 fantasy drafts, going around pick 16, but with no less than a 120 wRC+ and no less than 152 games played over the last four seasons, the price is justified so long as he's ready to go when the season begins.

Francisco Lindor Won't Play in WBC After Elbow Surgery

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (elbow) won't represent Team Puerto Rico in the 2026 World Baseball Classic this spring due to elbow surgery he had last October and "insurance constraints" of the international tournament, according to a statement from the MLB Players Association. Lindor is expected to be ready for the start of spring training after having debridement surgery to clean up his right elbow. The 32-year-old veteran switch-hitter had ups and downs in 2025 in his fifth year in Queens, but he was an All-Star for the fifth time in his career and finished with a third straight 30-homer season in 160 games, adding 86 RBI, 117 runs scored, and a career-high 31 stolen bases. Lindor had a slash line of .267/.346/.466 with an .811 OPS. Despite getting up there in age, Lindor should have the opportunity for another 30-30 campaign in 2026, making him a top-five fantasy shortstop.

Francisco Lindor Remains a High-End Shortstop Option Heading into 2026

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (elbow) is coming off an excellent 2025 season in which he posted a .267/.346/.466 slash line with 31 home runs, 86 RBI, 117 runs scored, and 31 stolen bases across 732 plate appearances. The 32-year-old underwent offseason elbow surgery, but he's expected to be fully ready to go once 2026 Spring Training gets underway. Lindor should plug in as the everyday leadoff hitter at the top of a new-look Mets lineup. New York lost star first baseman Pete Alonso to the Baltimore Orioles in free agency, which could hurt the team's offense. However, the Mets pivoted by signing infielders Bo Bichette and Jorge Polanco, as well as trading for outfielder Luis Robert Jr. Of course, New York also retains outfielder Juan Soto, who drove in 105 RBI in his first season with the Mets in 2025. All in all, Lindor should be in a position to record his fourth consecutive season of at least 100 runs scored as long as he remains healthy. He remains an elite fantasy shortstop option heading into 2026.

Francisco Lindor has Elbow Surgery, Expected to be Ready for Spring Training

New York Mets All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor (elbow) recently had a right-elbow debridement surgery, but he's expected to be ready for spring training in February, according to the team. Lindor also had a cleanup procedure on his throwing elbow after the 2023 campaign to remove bone spurs. He should be completely fine for the start of the 2026 regular season and will enter the year as one of the premier fantasy options at the shortstop position. The Puerto Rican infielder hit only .267 (172-for-644) in a league-high 732 plate appearances during the regular season, but he still managed to reach the 30-homer mark for the third straight season in New York and the sixth time in his career. Lindor added 86 RBI, 117 runs scored, and a career-high 31 stolen bases. Fantasy managers definitely can't complain about a 31-31 season.

Francisco Lindor Shines in Game 2 of Doubleheader

Wednesday's doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers was a mixed bag for shortstop Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets. Lindor went 0-for-4 in Game 1 as the Mets dropped a 7-2 decision. The team turned it around in a 7-3 win in the nightcap, though, and Lindor was a key contributor. For the first time in 191 games, Lindor did not hit leadoff for the Mets. They dropped him to second in the order, and Lindor responded by going 3-for-4 with a solo homer, a double, and three RBI. It ended a week-long skid for the 31-year-old switch-hitter, who was mired in a 2-for-29 slump entering the evening. Just named to his fifth All-Star team, Lindor is now slashing 261/.330/.457 with 17 homers, 46 RBI, 52 runs scored, and 13 steals in 385 plate appearances. He's well on his way to a third straight 20/20 campaign.

Francisco Lindor Breaks Slump with Two Extra-Base Hits

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Saturday's 11-4 road win against the Philadelphia Phillies. He also doubled to break a 0-for-16 slump at the dish. The fantasy stalwart mashed homer No. 15 off Phillies' starter Mick Abel to lead off the third inning in the first of back-to-back-to-back jacks with Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto following suit. It's worth noting that all three at-bats were six pitches or more. The long ball was Lindor's first in 16 games. He isn't sporting the same expected statistics he did a season ago, but fantasy managers likely won't quibble with his production thus far. The former first-round pick is slashing .267/.340/.463 with 14 doubles, 13 steals, 48 runs scored, and 41 RBI from atop the Mets' lineup.

Francisco Lindor Returning on Saturday

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (toe) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Lindor will make his way back into the starting lineup after not starting in each of the last two games due to a fractured toe. He was able to come off the bench as a pinch-hitter during Friday's contest. Lindor will return to his spot at shortstop and bat leadoff against right-hander German Marquez on Saturday. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Lindor back in their lineups ahead of first pitch.

Francisco Lindor Out Again on Friday With Toe Injury

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (toe) will miss a second straight game in Friday's series opener at Coors Field against the hosting Colorado Rockies. Lindor fractured his right pinkie toe when he was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and will now miss his second straight game. The good news is that Lindor isn't expected to land on the injured list because of the injury, and he could return as soon as Saturday. It will be more of a pain-tolerance issue for the 31-year-old All-Star. Fantasy managers can only hope that it won't affect his offensive production moving forward. The Puerto Rican infielder is one of the best shortstops in the game and currently has a .279/.353/.490 slash line with an .843 OPS, 14 long balls, 36 RBI, 42 runs and 11 steals in 247 at-bats. Ronny Mauricio is at short and is batting ninth on Friday against lefty opener Ryan Rolison.
