Garrett Crochet Throws Successful Live Batting Practice Session on Tuesday

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) faced live hitters for the first time on Tuesday during a live batting practice session since going on the 15-day injured list last month with left-shoulder inflammation, according to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald. Crochet threw an inning at Fenway Park and said that he will throw another live BP on Sunday. Compared to his prior bullpens, the talented southpaw said his session on Tuesday went much better. He said the fatigue that landed him on the shelf on April 29 is no longer a problem, and the issue of late has been getting his mechanics back to where they need to be. Interim manager Chad Tracy said Crochet's velocity was sitting in the mid-90s, and that "it was a good day for him." Crochet initially hoped to avoid a minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining Boston's starting rotation, but at this point, one will probably be required. It means that it might be another week or two before Crochet is back for fantasy managers. He finished second in the American League Cy Young voting in 2025 and should not be available on the waiver wire in any fantasy leagues.

Garrett Crochet Set to Throw Live BP on Tuesday

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) will face live hitters on Tuesday, according to Red Sox manager Chad Tracy. It will be the first time Crochet will pitch live batting practice since landing on the injured list with left-shoulder inflammation. He threw a bullpen session on Saturday, and if all goes well on Tuesday, the southpaw could begin a rehab assignment shortly after. The 26-year-old has been on the injured list since April 25. Before going on the IL, he struggled to start the season, posting a 6.30 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 30 innings. Fantasy managers should continue to stash the Red Sox ace as he works his way back from the shoulder injury and could return to Boston's as well as fantasy managers' rotations soon.

Garrett Crochet to Throw a Live BP/Sim Game Next Week

Boston Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said on Friday that left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) will throw a side session this weekend ahead of a live batting practice/simulated game early next week, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. Crochet is currently on the 15-day injured list with left-shoulder inflammation, and although he is making progress, his return to Boston's starting rotation isn't imminent. The talented southpaw has been out since April 25. Whether Crochet requires a minor-league rehab assignment will likely be dependent on how his throwing sessions this weekend and early next week go. Fantasy managers are going to need to be patient, as he is unlikely to be back in the big leagues until early June. The 26-year-old two-time All-Star was second in the American League Cy Young voting last year, but he has disappointed so far in 2026 with a 3-3 record, 6.30 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched across six starts. Crochet is rightfully rostered in 99% of Yahoo leagues.

Garrett Crochet Throws Two-Inning Bullpen Session on Wednesday

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) threw two innings during an up-and-down bullpen session on Wednesday, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. Crochet said he will throw a brief side session on either Friday or Saturday before throwing his first live batting practice session next week. The 26-year-old southpaw was placed on the 15-day injured list with left-shoulder inflammation on April 29. Crochet isn't very happy with where his mechanics are at right now and said he still has "a lot of boxes to check in terms of workload and time to really iron those things out." Facing live hitters next week will give him a better idea of where he's at in his progression. Crochet said he expects to need more than one live BP session before going on a minor-league rehab assignment, so the two-time All-Star isn't exactly close to rejoining the BoSox's starting rotation. The talented left-hander was second in the American League Cy Young voting in 2025 in his first year in Boston, but he got off to a rough start in his first six starts this year with a 6.30 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. Still, Crochet is a must-stash in all fantasy baseball leagues.

Garrett Crochet Throwing a Bullpen Session on Wednesday

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) said he is throwing a bullpen session on Wednesday, according to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe. It's a big step in his return from left-shoulder inflammation that landed him on the 15-day injured list back on April 29. While Crochet is making progress, he's unlikely to return right when he's eligible to come off the IL, and he could require one or two minor-league rehab starts before he rejoins Boston's starting rotation. It's been a rather disappointing 2026 season to this point for one of the best left-handed pitchers in the game after he finished second in the American League Cy Young voting a year ago. Crochet went 3-3 before landing on the IL with a 6.30 ERA (4.32 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP with 37 strikeouts and 11 walks in 30 innings across his six starts. Despite his underwhelming numbers early on and an IL stint, Crochet should be stashed in all fantasy leagues.

Garrett Crochet Resumes Throwing Off a Mound

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) is progressing and resumed throwing off a mound on Tuesday after getting out to 120 feet while playing catch on Sunday, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. Crochet is currently on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his left shoulder. He will likely require at least one minor-league rehab start before rejoining Boston's starting rotation, but barring a setback, the two-time All-Star should be back well in advance of the start of June. Crochet finished second in the American League Cy Young voting in 2025 in his first year in Beantown after going 18-5 with a 2.59 ERA (2.89 FIP) and 1.03 WHIP with a league-high 255 strikeouts and 46 walks in a league-high 205 1/3 innings across 32 starts. Crochet is one of the most talented left-handed arms in baseball, even if his 2026 numbers don't reflect that. He went 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA (4.32 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP with 37 K's and 11 walks in six starts before going on the IL. Crochet is a must-stash pitcher in all fantasy baseball leagues.

Garrett Crochet Resumes Throwing, Red Sox Not Rushing him

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder), who was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 29 with left-shoulder inflammation, has resumed throwing from 60 feet and is continuing to make progress in his strength program, interim manager Chad Tracy told Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald. Crochet is eligible to come off the IL on Tuesday, but the Red Sox want to make sure he's fully built back up before activating him. Whether or not Crochet requires a minor-league rehab assignment will depend on how long he's out, according to Tracy. The talented southpaw should return by mid-May, but it won't be by next Tuesday. Despite an inconsistent start to the 2026 season, Crochet should be held in all fantasy leagues. Rookie left-hander Jake Bennett has made his first two big-league starts in Crochet's place so far. The 26-year-old Crochet has gone 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA (4.34 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP with 37 strikeouts and 11 walks across 30 innings over his first six starts with the BoSox this year. He was an All-Star each of the last two seasons and finished second in the American League Cy Young voting in 2025.

Garrett Crochet Plays Catch on Sunday

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) played catch on Sunday for the first time after a brief no-throw period, according to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe. The early signs continue to be positive for Crochet, but the Red Sox continue to preach caution/patience with the All-Star hurler. The good news for Crochet started when an MRI exam on his left shoulder didn't show anything other than inflammation, although he couldn't avoid a trip to the 15-day injured list. The 26-year-old southpaw probably won't have an extended absence, although fantasy managers also shouldn't expect him to be ready to rejoin Boston's starting rotation when his 15 days are up on May 12. Shoulder issues could be the reason why the two-time All-Star hasn't looked quite like himself early in the 2026 season. Crochet is 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA (4.35 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP with 37 strikeouts and 11 walks in 30 innings over his six starts. Rookie left-hander Jake Bennett got the first shot to replace Crochet in the team's starting rotation, and he delivered with a win and just one earned run allowed with three K's in five innings on Friday against the Astros. Crochet should not be dropped in any leagues while he rebuilds strength in his left shoulder.

MRI Comes Back Clean for Garrett Crochet

Boston Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said that left-hander Garrett Crochet's (shoulder) MRI exam on his left shoulder came back clean, with just some inflammation in his shoulder, according to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald. Crochet won't resume throwing for a few days and will now focus on rebuilding strength in his arm. The talented southpaw was put on the 15-day injured list by the BoSox on Wednesday, and the hope is that he can have a minimal stint on the IL. The 26-year-old former first-rounder by the Chicago White Sox in 2020 out of Tennessee hasn't been himself so far in six starts for Boston, and his shoulder injury is likely a big reason for that. Crochet landed on the IL with a 3-3 record, bloated 6.30 ERA (4.33 FIP), 37 strikeouts, and 11 walks in 30 innings pitched. The two-time All-Star needs to be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues while he recovers from shoulder inflammation. For now, left-handed pitching prospect Jake Bennett will take Crochet's spot in the rotation and make his big-league debut on Friday against the Houston Astros.

Garrett Crochet Goes on Injured List With Shoulder Inflammation

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) is being placed on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with left-shoulder inflammation, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. It's especially disappointing for the BoSox and fantasy managers after Crochet bounced back to throw six scoreless innings in his most recent start last Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles. The 26-year-old two-time All-Star's injury doesn't sound too serious, but he'll have to miss at least a couple of turns through the starting rotation. Despite a good recent outing, Crochet has mostly been a disappointment for fantasy managers so far in 2026, going 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA (4.33 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP with 37 strikeouts and 11 walks in 30 innings pitched over his six starts in his second year in Beantown. Despite the tough start and placement on the IL, Crochet absolutely must be stashed in all fantasy formats. This could be a good time to buy low on him as well. UPDATE: Crochet said he's "pretty confident" that he'll be ready to come off the IL when he's eligible.
