Caleb Durbin Can Be a Great Late-Round Sleeper

Boston Red Sox third baseman Caleb Durbin is expected to open the season in an everyday role with plenty of potential, and he can be a great way to add some infield depth late in your fantasy draft or even off the waiver wire if he slips through your draft. Durbin shipped up to Boston this offseason after the Red Sox snagged him in a trade from the Brewers. Last year, Drubin slashed .256/.334.387 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI in 136 games on his way to finishing third in National League Rookie of the Year voting. He has looked excellent at the plate and in the field this spring, hitting .356 in 17 games with three stolen bases and a .431 wOBA. Since he'll be an everyday player and likely hit in a good spot in Boston's batting order, he has a solid batting average floor and good speed potential. He's ranked as the No. 16 3B at RotoBaller and brings nice flexibility with 2B eligibility in some formats as well. If you need infield help at the end of your draft, he's a great option to consider.

Caleb Durbin to Start at Third Base on Opening Day

Caleb Durbin will be the Boston Red Sox's starting third baseman on Opening Day this year, manager Alex Cora confirmed. The Red Sox acquired Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers just before spring training, and now he will fill in at the hot corner after the team failed to re-sign Alex Bregman in the offseason. The 25-year-old has been sharing time at third this spring with Marcelo Mayer, who is the leading candidate to start the year at second base. Durbin has been impressive on both sides of the ball during Grapefruit League play, hitting .394 with seven RBI and three stolen bases in 33 at-bats through Tuesday. He hit .256 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI in 2025 in Milwaukee and finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting. With a locked-in starting role and a better offensive environment at Fenway Park, Durbin is a nice late-round target in fantasy leagues that should provide a solid batting average floor and the potential for 20 stolen bases. He's ranked as the No. 16 third baseman at RotoBaller.

Caleb Durbin Expected to be Boston's Starting Third Baseman

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora stopped short of making it official but "strongly indicated" on Tuesday morning that infielder Caleb Durbin will be the team's starting third baseman on Opening Day later this month, according to Sean McAdam of MassLive.com. The Red Sox will most likely go with Durbin at the hot corner after they were unable to re-sign Alex Bregman in free agency in the winter. The 26-year-old Durbin played third base with the Milwaukee Brewers last year in his MLB debut, too, while finishing with a .256/.334/.387 slash line, .721 OPS, 11 homers, 53 RBI, 60 runs scored, and 18 stolen bases in 136 total regular-season games. Durbin finished third in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. He displayed great plate discipline, but fantasy managers should be concerned about his 4.0% barrel rate, 26.9% hard-hit rate, and 85.2 mph average exit velocity. Durbin doesn't have the high-end power to be more than a backup third base option in mixed fantasy leagues.

Marcelo Mayer at Second, Caleb Durbin Manning Third in Camp

For the second day in a row at camp, Boston Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer is at second base, and Caleb Durbin is at third base, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Mayer would see most of his playing time at third in 2026 after Alex Bregman left via free agency. However, the recent trade acquisition of Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers has changed the dynamic of Boston's infield at the start of spring training. The 23-year-old Mayer, a former shortstop prospect, played both second and third in his rookie campaign in 2025. Durbin has experience at the keystone, but he primarily played the hot corner in Milwaukee last year. Mayer, the former fourth overall pick in 2021, might have more long-term upside offensively, but Durbin is probably the better immediate contributor in fantasy after clubbing 11 homers and stealing 18 bases in 136 regular-season games in 2025.

Red Sox Acquire Caleb Durbin from Brewers

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Boston Red Sox have acquired infielder Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers. In exchange, the Red Sox are sending left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, infielder David Hamilton, and left-handed pitcher Shane Drohan. Additionally, the Red Sox are also acquiring infielder Andrew Monasterio, third baseman Anthony Seigler, and a Comp B pick. Durbin put together a solid MLB debut with the Brewers last summer, holding a .256/.354/.387 line. He hit 11 home runs and showcased his high-end speed, swiping 18 bags. Additionally, he showed an elite eye at the plate, striking out at a low 9.9% rate. With Boston, managers should expect Durbin to compete for a starting role at the hot corner, alongside Marcelo Mayer. He would have sleeper appeal in deeper category formats if he earns a full-time role.

Caleb Durbin to Have Elbow Debridement Surgery This Offseason

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Caleb Durbin (elbow) battled elbow irritation at the end of the 2025 season and will have arthroscopic debridement surgery on Oct. 30, according to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Durbin is expected to be fully ready for the start of spring training in February, according to the team. The 25-year-old former 14th-round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2021 out of Washington University in St. Louis made his big-league debut this year with Milwaukee and settled in as their starting third baseman pretty quickly. He ended up playing in 136 regular-season games and slashed .256/.334/.387 with a .721 OPS, 11 home runs, 53 RBI, 60 runs scored, and 18 stolen bases in 506 trips to the plate. Durbin should be ready for the start of the regular season as long as he doesn't have a setback with his elbow in spring training.

Caleb Durbin Homers In Loss Monday

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Caleb Durbin turned in a productive game in a 5-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Monday. Durbin went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer to provide the only offense for the Brewers in the loss. The rookie infielder now has his first MLB homer under his belt as he launched a 375-foot blast off Giants starter Robbie Ray in the second inning. Durbin was just recalled from Triple-A last week and has posted a .200 average, three runs, three RBI, and a steal across 15 at-bats. He has plenty of speed and is worth monitoring in fantasy in case he's able to reach base consistently as Milwaukee's regular third baseman.

Brewers Calling Up Caleb Durbin

MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports that the Milwaukee Brewers are calling up infield prospect Caleb Durbin from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday in order to try and generate more production from third base at the major-league level. Infielder Oliver Dunn was optioned to Nashville in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old Durbin was acquired from the New York Yankees in the Devin Williams trade in the offseason, and he's considered Milwaukee's No. 21 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. Dunn and Vinny Capra weren't getting it done offensively at third with a combined .429 OPS and .188 on-base percentage. Durbin slashed .278/.316/.482 with two homers, three RBI and three steals in 13 games for Nashville. He has 113 steals in 294 minor-league games and will be a waiver-wire option for fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues that are seeking some speed. Durbin will be making his major-league debut.

Caleb Durbin Continues To Hit At Triple-A

Milwaukee Brewers infield prospect Caleb Durbin went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored for Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, bringing his hit streak to six games while hitting safely in seven of eight. The former 14th-round draft pick is slashing .294/.333/.559 with two home runs and one stolen base to begin the year. He looked primed to make the Brewers' Opening Day roster after a strong spring showing, but was ultimately sent to Triple-A for more seasoning. With Brice Turang entrenched at second base and hitting well, Durbin's path to playing time is through shortstop or third base. Notably, Durbin was at third base on Tuesday, so it could be six-home run spring training star Vinny Capra who could be on the hot seat after an 0-for-4 night for the Brewers dropped his BA to .130. Whenever Durbin does get the call, he could be a significant source of stolen bases and is eligible at 2B, 3B, and SS on Yahoo!, giving him some added fantasy appeal.

Caleb Durbin Heads To Minors

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Caleb Durbin has been optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday. Durbin was acquired by the Brewers this offseason in the deal that sent Devin Williams over to the New York Yankees. The Brewers would rather have Durbin and Tyler Black get regular at-bats in the minors than sit on the bench in the big leagues. Both players should get a chance on the Brewers roster at some point during the 2025 season. For now, fantasy managers can ignore them heading into the regular season.
