Caleb Durbin Homers In Loss Monday

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Caleb Durbin turned in a productive game in a 5-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Monday. Durbin went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer to provide the only offense for the Brewers in the loss. The rookie infielder now has his first MLB homer under his belt as he launched a 375-foot blast off Giants starter Robbie Ray in the second inning. Durbin was just recalled from Triple-A last week and has posted a .200 average, three runs, three RBI, and a steal across 15 at-bats. He has plenty of speed and is worth monitoring in fantasy in case he's able to reach base consistently as Milwaukee's regular third baseman.

Brewers Calling Up Caleb Durbin

MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports that the Milwaukee Brewers are calling up infield prospect Caleb Durbin from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday in order to try and generate more production from third base at the major-league level. Infielder Oliver Dunn was optioned to Nashville in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old Durbin was acquired from the New York Yankees in the Devin Williams trade in the offseason, and he's considered Milwaukee's No. 21 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. Dunn and Vinny Capra weren't getting it done offensively at third with a combined .429 OPS and .188 on-base percentage. Durbin slashed .278/.316/.482 with two homers, three RBI and three steals in 13 games for Nashville. He has 113 steals in 294 minor-league games and will be a waiver-wire option for fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues that are seeking some speed. Durbin will be making his major-league debut.

Caleb Durbin Continues To Hit At Triple-A

Milwaukee Brewers infield prospect Caleb Durbin went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored for Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, bringing his hit streak to six games while hitting safely in seven of eight. The former 14th-round draft pick is slashing .294/.333/.559 with two home runs and one stolen base to begin the year. He looked primed to make the Brewers' Opening Day roster after a strong spring showing, but was ultimately sent to Triple-A for more seasoning. With Brice Turang entrenched at second base and hitting well, Durbin's path to playing time is through shortstop or third base. Notably, Durbin was at third base on Tuesday, so it could be six-home run spring training star Vinny Capra who could be on the hot seat after an 0-for-4 night for the Brewers dropped his BA to .130. Whenever Durbin does get the call, he could be a significant source of stolen bases and is eligible at 2B, 3B, and SS on Yahoo!, giving him some added fantasy appeal.

Caleb Durbin Heads To Minors

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Caleb Durbin has been optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday. Durbin was acquired by the Brewers this offseason in the deal that sent Devin Williams over to the New York Yankees. The Brewers would rather have Durbin and Tyler Black get regular at-bats in the minors than sit on the bench in the big leagues. Both players should get a chance on the Brewers roster at some point during the 2025 season. For now, fantasy managers can ignore them heading into the regular season.

Caleb Durbin Expected To Make Opening Day Roster

Milwaukee Brewers infield prospect Caleb Durbin is expected to make the Opening Day roster. Jack Stern of the Brewer Fanatic noted that with Andruw Monasterio being optioned to Triple-A, Durbin has a clear path to breaking camp with the major league team. Earlier in the offseason, the Brewers acquired Durbin alongside Nestor Cortes Jr. from the New York Yankees in exchange for closer Devin Williams. Durbin has held a .222/.296/.375 slash line with one double, two home runs, and three stolen bases across 16 contests. Last summer, the 25-year-old spent most of his campaign at the Triple-A level. Through 82 contests, Durbin posted a .287/.396/.471 slash line with 23 doubles, 10 home runs, and 29 stolen bases. He is an intriguing late-round option in deeper formats as he carries elite speed upside.

Caleb Durbin Hits Second Home Run, Nabs First Steal Of Spring

Milwaukee Brewers infield prospect Caleb Durbin smacked a leadoff home run, his second home run of the spring, in Monday's 5-4 Cactus League loss to the Reds. The 25-year-old also swiped his first bag of the spring after stealing 29 in just 82 games at Triple-A last season and running wild for 29 steals in 24 games during the 2024 Arizona Fall League. The former 14th-round draft pick is an on-base machine, walking more than he's struck out over his 281 MiLB career games (134:111 BB:K), resulting in a career OBP of .374. As of now, the right-handed hitter is projected to be on the weak side of a second base platoon in Milwaukee, but should he earn a full-time gig, the fantasy impact could be felt immediately. ATC projections see him stealing 13 bases in only 268 PA, but that feels more like a baseline forecast, so there's upside here. With eligibility at 2B, 3B, and SS on Yahoo, he's got added fantasy appeal, so managers should monitor closely in the lead-up to Opening Day for any positive playing time developments.

Caleb Durbin Could Start At Second Base For Brewers

MLB.com's Adam McCalvy is guessing that Milwaukee Brewers infielder Caleb Durbin could start the 2025 season as the team's regular second baseman, with Brice Turang moving to shortstop after the departure of Willy Adames in free agency. However, Turang won the National League Gold Glove at second base in 2024, so it could be a reach to move him off the keystone for the unproven Durbin, who the Brewers acquired from the New York Yankees in the Devin Williams offseason trade. McCalvy also writes that there's a scenario in which Joey Ortiz starts at shortstop, with Turang staying at second base, if the team isn't comfortable rushing Durbin into a full-time big-league role. Durbin, 24, does have a path to regular playing time in 2025, though. He doesn't have much power but makes a ton of contact and had 29 steals in 82 games at Triple-A last year.

Brewers Acquire Caleb Durbin From Yankees

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired second base prospect Caleb Durbin and left-hander Nestor Cortes from the New York Yankees on Friday in exchange for right-handed reliever Devin Williams, according to sources. Durbin was not among the Yankees' top-25 prospects per MLB Pipeline, but his prospect stock has risen dramatically since the end of the 2024 season, mainly because of his impressive production in the Arizona Fall League. The 24-year-old infielder was expected to have a big role for the Yankees in 2025, but now he'll head to the National League Central, where he could also have a big role in the middle infield for the Brew Crew after they just lost Willy Adames to free agency. Durbin doesn't have a ton of power, but his high contract rate makes him a good bet to hit for average in the big leagues. He slashed .287/.396/.471 with 10 homers and 29 steals in 82 games at Triple-A in 2024.

Yankees Protect Caleb Durbin From Rule 5 Draft

The New York Yankees added infielder Caleb Durbin and catcher Jesus Rodriguez to their 40-man roster on Tuesday so that they cannot be taken in the upcoming Rule 5 draft by another team. The Yankees also received right-hander Carson Coleman as a Rule 5 draft return from the Texas Rangers. It's quickly become clear that the Yankees are high on Durbin heading into 2025 and beyond, and it's hard to blame them after the 24-year-old looked good at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before tearing it up in the Arizona Fall League. Surprisingly, he's not listed among the team's top-30 prospects by MLB Pipeline after slashing .287/.396/.471 with 10 homers, 60 RBI and 29 steals in 82 games at Triple-A this year. If Durbin keeps his strong play going into spring training early next year, he could open the regular season on the Opening Day roster.

Caleb Durbin Homers, Swipes Two More Bases On Tuesday

New York Yankees infield prospect Caleb Durbin is scorching hot right now, at the plate and on the basepaths, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk, four RBI, three runs scored, and two more stolen bases in his latest Arizona Fall League game for the Salt River Rafters on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has his fall batting average up to .318 with a 1.006 OPS, but that's not the most impressive thing; a day after swiping four bags in a game, Durbin stole two more, bringing his stolen base count to an astounding 29 in just 23 games played. After leading the AFL in 2023 in steals with 21, edging out speedy St. Louis Cardinals prospect Victor Scott II who had 18, Durbin will easily earn the stolen base crown in the 2024 AFL campaign with a 17-steal lead over the next closest player. The former 14th-round draft pick has opened eyes, including that of Yankees skipper Aaron Boone, and with an exclamation point on this season, the right-handed hitter looks more and more likely to be on the big league roster come Opening Day.
