Romy Gonzalez Back in Lineup on Saturday

Boston Red Sox infielder Romy Gonzalez (knee) is returning to the lineup on Saturday after a two-game absence. Gonzalez, who's riding a 12-game hitting streak, will play first base and lead off against New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried. It's Gonzalez's first time in the lineup since he exited a win over the Athletics on Tuesday with soreness in his left knee. The Red Sox will happily welcome the right-handed hitter back for a matchup against a tough lefty, as he has teed off on southpaws this season. Gonzalez owns an eye-popping .347/.396/.636 line over 134 trips to the plate versus lefties, and seven of his nine home runs have come at their expense.

Romy Gonzalez Out Again on Friday

Boston Red Sox infielder Romy Gonzalez (knee) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the division-rival New York Yankees at Fenway Park. David Hamilton will make another start at the keystone and will hit seventh against Yankees right-hander Luis Gil. Gonzalez is dealing with a sore left knee and also missed the series finale on Wednesday against the Athletics. The 29-year-old had another off day on Thursday, but he still isn't ready. Consider him day-to-day and check back if he's available against the Yanks on Saturday. Hamilton has 20 stolen bases in 84 games this year and a total of 53 swipes the last two years in Boston, but he'll be a low-upside DFS sleeper at the bottom of Boston's batting order. Hamilton has also gone hitless in seven career at-bats versus Gil.

Romy Gonzalez Out on Wednesday

Boston Red Sox infielder Romy Gonzalez (knee) is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Athletics in Sacramento. David Hamilton is starting at second base and will hit seventh for the BoSox against A's right-hander Mason Barnett. Left-knee soreness caused the Red Sox to pull Gonzalez in the second inning of Tuesday's game, and he's now day-to-day after going 2-for-2 with a home run, double, and two RBI before leaving. Boston doesn't sound too concerned about Gonzalez's knee injury for now, so he may be back at the keystone on Friday against the division-rival New York Yankees. The 29-year-old has struggled to stay healthy in 2025, but he's been a solid bat for the Red Sox when he's been available, hitting a career-best .311 (84-for-270) with a career-high nine homers, 48 RBI, and five steals in 84 games.

Romy Gonzalez Day-to-Day With Knee Soreness

Boston Red Sox infielder Romy Gonzalez (knee) exited a 6-0 win over the Athletics on Tuesday with soreness in his left knee, but it doesn't appear to be a serious injury. "Structurally, everything's good. Hoping to be ready to go by Friday," said Gonzalez, who went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI on Tuesday before the Red Sox replaced him at first base with Nathaniel Lowe in the bottom of the second inning. With Gonzalez unavailable, Lowe will start at first, and David Hamilton will man the keystone against Athletics right-hander Mason Barnett on Wednesday. The Red Sox are idle on Thursday, but based on what Gonzalez told the media, he could be available when they open an important series against the New York Yankees on Friday. The 29-year-old has been productive over 84 games this season, having slashed .311/.345/.507 with nine homers, 48 RBI, 41 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 290 plate appearances.

Red Sox Think Romy Gonzalez Will Miss Minimum Time On Injured List

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora thinks that infielder Romy Gonzalez (quadriceps) will miss the minimum time on the 10-day injured list, which would put him back on the major-league roster on May 18 for the finale of a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. The 28-year-old landed on the IL on May 10 with a left-quadriceps contusion but should be back with the team soon and is expected to see regular playing time at first base with Triston Casas (knee) out for the rest of the season. It's unclear if the Red Sox will send Gonzalez on a short minor-league rehab assignment before they activate him. As long as he's playing regularly when he returns, Gonzalez will have fantasy value in deep-mixed and AL-only formats. He has yet to homer in 52 at-bats in 2025, but he's hit a strong .308 (16-for-52) with six RBI 10 runs and three stolen bases.

Romy Gonzalez Remains Absent On Friday

Boston Red Sox first infielder Romy Gonzalez (back) remains out of the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the hosting Kansas City Royals and right-hander Michael Lorenzen at Kauffman Stadium. Abraham Toro will make another start at the cold corner and will bat seventh. Gonzalez has missed a few games now due to a minor back injury, but he's expected to avoid a trip to the injured list and return at some point this weekend against the Royals. The 28-year-old has yet to go deep in 52 at-bats this year, but he's hitting over .300 and has plenty of appeal in AL-only leagues now that we know Triston Casas (knee) is done for the rest of the season. Toro makes for an unattractive DFS sleeper while hitting .111 (1-for-9) early on in his tenure with Boston. He's also gone hitless in three career at-bats against Lorenzen.

Romy Gonzalez Involved In Collision, Pulled With Back Stiffness

Boston Red Sox infielder Romy Gonzalez (back) is fine after being involved in a collision in Wednesday's win over the visiting Texas Rangers at Fenway Park, according to manager Alex Cora, but he was pulled after his back stiffened up on him. Gonzalez was down on the ground for several minutes after he tripped and collided with Rangers utility man Josh Smith at first base. Before being replaced at first by Abraham Toro in the seventh inning, the 28-year-old went 0-for-3 at the plate to drop his season average to .308 and his OPS to .785. Gonzalez appeared to avoid a serious injury, but don't be surprised if he's held out of Thursday's series finale against Texas. The BoSox can ill-afford to lose another option at first base with Triston Casas (knee) expected to miss the rest of the season. Gonzalez is off to a strong start at the plate with a .308 average, but he lacks power upside, making him mostly an option in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Romy Gonzalez Resting On Tuesday

Boston Red Sox infielder Romy Gonzalez will take a seat on Tuesday against the visiting Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. Abraham Toro is getting the start at first base and will hit seventh against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. It appears to just be a normal breather for Gonzalez, who has become Boston's primary option at first base in the wake of Triston Casas' serious knee injury. The 28-year-old doesn't have any home runs on the season yet, but he's swung the bat well otherwise by going 16-for-49 (.327) in limited at-bats with six RBI, three stolen bases and 10 runs scored. The former 18th-round pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2018 out of the University of Miami should at least be rostered in AL-only leagues. Toro will be making his first start of 2025 and should be avoided for DFS lineups. The Canadian switch-hitter has gone hitless in five career at-bats against Eovaldi.

Romy Gonzalez Feeling "Fine" After Taking Swings

Per Rob Bradford of WEEI.com, Boston Red Sox second baseman Romy Gonzalez (oblique) took swings on Thursday and felt "fine" afterward. The 28-year-old left Monday's split-squad game against the Atlanta Braves with a tight oblique, but it's excellent news that he could swing a bat just a few days later. According to Gonzalez, he expects to play again in a few days. The former eighteenth-round pick is unlikely to be selected in fantasy drafts over the next week, though his underlying 2024 metrics point to some sleeper appeal. Gonzalez's average exit velocity of 92.3 MPH a season ago would rank in the top 20 batters if he qualified, and his hard-hit rate jumped nearly ten points from 2023 to a robust 51%. The utility bat was particularly effective against lefties last season, sporting a .302/.362/.517 triple-slash across 130 plate appearances.

Romy Gonzalez Undergoing MRI On His Oblique

Boston Red Sox utility man Romy Gonzalez (oblique) is undergoing an MRI exam on Tuesday after leaving the team's spit-squad game against the Atlanta Braves on Monday with a tight oblique, according to manager Alex Cora. The level of concern is low, but the team is proceeding cautiously with only nine days before Opening Day next week. If the 28-year-old is healthy, MassLive's Chris Cotillo writes that Gonzalez is nearly certain to make the Opening Day roster because he is the top backup behind Triston Casas at first base. He projects as Boston's top super-utility option after playing seven different positions in 2024. But if Gonzalez opens the year on the injured list, Nick Sogard or Abraham Toro could break camp with the BoSox. When healthy, most of Gonzalez's playing time will come against lefties after he hit .266/.306/.417 with six home runs, 29 RBI and 11 steals in 199 at-bats a year ago.
