Triston Casas Won't Commit to Being Ready for Opening Day

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (knee) said that being ready for Opening Day will be a "tight squeeze," according to Tim Healey of the Boston Globe. He hopes to ease his way back into action by playing in some games during spring training. Casas is recovering from a ruptured left patellar tendon, and doctors gave him a 12-month recovery timeline that would put his projected return in early May. He had slashed .182/.277/.303 with three home runs and 56 wRC+ through 29 games before suffering his season-ending injury. Boston would definitely like to get its left-handed slugger back, but the organization presumably feels a little less urgency after acquiring Willson Contreras from the St. Louis Cardinals. Regardless of Casas' health, Contreras should start at first base when the Red Sox open their season in Cincinnati on March 26.

Triston Casas Optimistic About Playing in Spring Training

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (knee) has resumed baseball activities and is optimistic about playing in Spring Training. Casas is working his way back from a serious knee injury that limited him to 29 games. It seems that Casas is heading in the right direction, but might not be ready for Opening Day. The 26-year-old is likely going to be limited to designated hitter duties with Willson Contreras joining the club this offseason. The Red Sox have enough organizational depth that they could potentially send Casas to the minors until he's ready to contribute again. Casas has only played one full season since making his MLB debut in 2022. There's decent upside here, but Casas is looking more like a late-round option.

Triston Casas Progressing Well From Knee Injury, Eyeing Opening Day Return

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (knee) continues to make steady progress as he recovers from a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee that ended his season early. The 25-year-old remains on schedule in his rehab and expects to be ready for spring training. There had been speculation about whether Casas would be available for Opening Day, but recent updates suggest optimism from both the player and the team. Before the injury, Casas slashed .182/.277/.303 in 29 games. The Red Sox hope to have their promising young first baseman healthy to anchor the lineup in 2026.

Triston Casas Ditches Crutches

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (knee) is moving around well (without crutches) in the team's clubhouse while wearing flip-flops on Friday, according to Ian Brown of MLB.com. Casas has already been ruled out for the remainder of the year after having surgery last month to fix a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee. The 25-year-old will continue to rehab his knee for the rest of the year, and he expects to be ready for the start of the 2026 campaign. It's good to see Casas walking around on his own, but it's still way too early to tell for sure if he'll indeed be 100 percent good to go by Opening Day in 2026. Boston is moving forward as of now with Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez in a platoon at the cold corner. Casas still has intriguing power from the left side and is only 25, but he's played only one of four MLB seasons over 100 games and still needs to prove himself.

Triston Casas Diagnosed With Ruptured Left Patellar Tendon

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (knee) has been diagnosed with a ruptured left patellar tendon. Casas was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier on Saturday but is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025 season. He was removed from Friday's contest and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. For the time being, fantasy managers should expect Romy Gonzalez to see most of the opportunities at first base with Rafael Devers and Connor Wong also being in the mix. Casas had a slow start to the season, holding a .182/.277/.303 slash line with three doubles and three home runs across 29 games. Casas' injury could also eventually open a path for top prospects Roman Anthony or Marcelo Mayer to join the MLB roster as well.

Triston Casas At The Hospital, Expected To Be Out A While

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that first baseman Triston Casas (knee) suffered a significant knee injury in Friday's series opener against the visiting Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park and is currently at the hospital. The skipper said the team will know more on Saturday, but it's a safe bet that Casas will be out for a while. It's not a surprise after the 25-year-old crumbled to the ground after landing awkwardly on first base while running out a groundout. Based on the way the injury looked, a torn ligament in his knee is a possibility, but we'll have a better idea of how long Casas might be sidelined on Saturday. With Casas likely out for an extended period of time, Romy Gonzalez, who replaced Casas at first on Friday, is in line to see regular playing time for the BoSox. In addition to this serious injury, Casas came into Friday's action hitting just .184/.279/.306 with three homers and 11 RBI.

Triston Casas Injures Knee, Taken Off On Stretcher

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (knee) was removed early during Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers and was placed on a stretcher after a scary-looking injury. Casas appeared to have suffered a knee injury while trying to make it to first base. This looked like an ugly injury, and Casas couldn't even get off the field under his own power. The expectation is that the Red Sox will have Casas undergo further testing. However, fantasy managers should prepare for Casas to miss significant time because of this injury. Romy Gonzalez took over at first base and might see more time over there if Casas heads to the injured list, which seems likely based on how the injury looked on Friday night.

Small Mechanical Tweak Working For Triston Casas

After slumping to open the 2025 regular season, Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas worked with hitting coach Pete Fatse this week to move the positioning of his hands further away from his body. The early results have been encouraging after Casas hit a three-run home run for the second straight day in Wednesday's loss to the Seattle Mariners. In his first 23 games, the 25-year-old left-handed slugger had a 39 wRC+ while batting .171 with a .570 OPS, which was the worst month of his career. As a result, manager Alex Cora recently moved him down from his customary fourth spot in the batting order. Both of his homers the last two days were just over 105 mph off the bat, and fantasy managers will be hoping Casas' adjustment with his stance will continue to mean more production after a slow start. Now he just needs to be moved back up the batting order.

Triston Casas Launches Three-Run Homer

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas blasted a three-run home run and drew one walk in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Mariners. This was his second game in a row with a home run, and the slugger is finally showing signs of life after a very slow start to the season. He's batting just .171 on the year with three home runs, 10 RBI, and five runs through 23 games. Even his usually stellar walk rate is down to a middling 8.8%, with truly nothing going right for him over the first few weeks. He seems to be snapping out of it recently though, dating back to Saturday when he delivered a walk-off hit. It's too early to give up on Casas in fantasy, as he still possesses massive power upside.

Triston Casas Connects On Second Round-Tripper

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in his team's 8-3 win against the Seattle Mariners. The 25-year-old blasted his second dinger of the season off Mariners reliever Trent Thornton in the bottom of the seventh to give Boston a four-run lead, and they never looked back. It's been a slow few weeks for Casas, as he's gone 6-for-40 (.150) over his last 11 appearances with one extra-base hit, four RBI, and one run scored. The former first-round pick has been superb against left-handed pitchers this season (5-for-8), but struggled against righties to an abysmal .113 batting average. On the bright side, he's cut his strikeout rate by seven points from 2024. Still, it sits at an undesirable 24.1%.
