Triston Casas News
Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (finger) was scratched from Tuesday's Grapefruit League game with left fifth finger pain and is considered day-to-day. The injury isn't too serious, and the Red Sox expect Casas to return to spring action in a day or two. Fantasy managers won't need to worry about the 23-year-old not being ready for Opening Day at the end of March. The young first baseman is having a great spring, hitting .341 (14-for-41) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored in 15 Grapefruit League games. Casas will be Boston's primary first baseman in 2023, and the 6-foot-4, 252-pounder and has huge raw power, which will play well at Fenway Park.
Boston Red Sox first base prospect Triston Casas continued to hit in Tuesday's 10-2 Grapefruit League win over the Braves. The 23-year-old went 2-for-3 with a single, a double, an RBI, a walk and a strikeout. He is now batting .444 with two home runs in 18 spring at-bats. Casas is Boston's top-ranked prospect and enters the 2023 season poised to be their everyday first baseman. He only slashed .197/.358/.408 in his first 95 plate appearances with the Red Sox last season, but he slashed an impressive .273/.382/.481 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI in 317 plate appearances with Triple-A Worcester. Casas remains a top fantasy name in dynasty leagues and also could prove to be a useful pick this season in mixed leagues if he can tap into his power potential.
Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, a run scored and a strikeout in Tuesday's Grapefruit League win over the Miami Marlins. The most notable was the fact that all of his damage came against left-handed pitching in this spring game. The 23-year-old enters the 2023 season as Boston's top-ranked prospect, and he should be their everyday first baseman. The 6-foot-4, 252-pounder hit just .197/.358/.408 with a .766 OPS, five home runs and 12 RBI in his first 27 major-league games in 2022, but he has the potential to be the American League's Rookie of the Year this season if he plays up to his potential. Casas has plenty of raw power to all fields.

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (knee) made his MLB debut in 2022 and slashed .197/.358/.408 with five home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs, and a stolen base across 27 games. The 23-year-old is in line to be Boston's primary first baseman, with Eric Hosmer signing with the Cubs after being designated for assignment by the Red Sox this offseason. Casas is Boston's top prospect and ranks 29th overall per Baseball America. He played only three games in winter ball before developing knee soreness in October. The young slugger underwent an MRI, which revealed no structural damage, and Casas will be ready by Spring Training. The former first-rounder also missed time last season due to an ankle injury. Casas has legit power, evidenced by his 40.2 Hard% and .481 slugging percentage in the minors. He has more value in leagues that use the category on-base percentage instead of batting average. ATC projections are on board with this assessment and are projecting Casas with a slash line of .242/.337/.423 with 17 home runs, 57 RBI, three steals, and a .337 wOBA over 121 games in 2023. If Casas can stay healthy, he could be a cheap source of power in the later rounds and is a solid pick at his current NFBC ADP of 238, selected 25th overall among first basemen in recent drafts.
