George Soriano an Option for Saves in St. Louis?

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold believes that St. Louis Cardinals right-handed reliever George Soriano could be considered for high-leverage work at the back of the team's bullpen going forward. Soriano set down all six batters he faced (three strikeouts) in the last two innings on Tuesday to earn his first win over the Washington Nationals in the team's extra-inning victory. The 27-year-old Dominican is in his first year with the Cardinals after posting a 5.95 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, three saves, 117 strikeouts, and 55 walks in 118 innings pitched for the Miami Marlins in his first three major-league seasons. Riley O'Brien is locked in as St. Louis' closer, but don't be surprised if Soriano starts seeing more high-leverage setup work for the Red Birds alongside JoJo Romero and Ryne Stanek. Soriano has allowed two earned runs while walking three and striking out three so far in his six innings of work out of the bullpen in St. Louis. He's a name to monitor in holds leagues.

George Soriano Claimed Off Waivers by Nationals

The Washington Nationals have claimed relief pitcher George Soriano off waivers from the Atlanta Braves. Soriano was designated for assignment earlier this week after they added Jose Suarez to their roster. Soriano is looking to bounce back in 2026 after a disastrous season with the Miami Marlins in 2025. The 26-year-old finished with an 8.35 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, and a 36/19 K/BB ratio in 24 appearances. Somehow, Soriano almost allowed more earned runs (34) than he struck out batters (36). The Nationals are hopeful that Soriano can return to form and pitch as he did during his rookie season in 2023. He's expected to compete for a middle relief role during Spring Training.

George Soriano Claimed by Braves

The Atlanta Braves have claimed right-handed pitcher George Soriano off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. In a corresponding move, the Braves have opted to designate infielder Brett Wisely for assignment. Soriano was claimed by the Orioles earlier this offseason but will now look to compete for a spot in Atlanta. Last season, the 26-year-old spent his third MLB season with the Miami Marlins. Through 36 2/3 innings of relief, Soriano posted a rough 8.35 ERA with a 1.77 WHIP. During this stint in the big leagues, he earned one save but held a 36:19 K:BB. During his debut season in 2023, the right-hander turned in his best campaign, logging 52 innings to the tune of a 3.81 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. Managers should not expect Soriano to hold much fantasy value in 2026 as he will compete for a low-leverage role in the Atlanta bullpen.

Orioles Designate George Soriano for Assignment

Right-handed pitcher George Soriano has been designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles on Monday afternoon. In a corresponding move, the Orioles claimed outfielder Jhonkensy Noel from the Cleveland Guardians off waivers. Soriano was claimed by the Orioles earlier in the offseason but will now return to waivers. The 26-year-old has spent his first three MLB campaigns with the Miami Marlins. He has been played primarily as a reliever, as he has made just one start in his career. In 2025, Soriano tallied one save (the third of his career) and logged 36 2/3 innings to the tune of a high 8.35 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP. He struck out hitters at a low 20.8% rate and showed weak command, allowing walks at a high 11.0% rate. If he goes unclaimed, Soriano will likely begin the campaign at Triple-A Norfolk.

Patrick Monteverde Promoted To Major Leagues, George Soriano Optioned

The Miami Marlins have promoted left-handed pitcher Pat Monteverde to the major league roster prior to Saturday's contest against the Philadelphia Phillies. In a corresponding move, the Marlins optioned right-handed pitcher George Soriano to Triple-A Jacksonville. Monteverde has yet to appear in an MLB contest. Through the start of the Triple-A regular season, Monteverde has logged nine 1/3 innings to the tune of a 4.82 ERA and a strong 1.07 WHIP. He has struck out six batters and served up four walks. Last season, the southpaw spent most of the season with Jacksonville and held a high 5.66 ERA with a 1.51 WHIP. Soriano has posted a 6.94 ERA through his first 10 innings of the season with Miami. Fantasy managers should expect Monteverde to operate in a low-leverage role in the Miami bullpen.

Miami Marlins right-hander George Soriano was activated from the paternity list on Monday. Soriano was placed on the list on Friday but will be back and available for Tuesday's contest against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 24-year-old has been impressive for the Marlins in 2023, posting a 2.19 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts over 37 innings.
