Jacob deGrom Named AL Comeback Player of the Year

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom was named the American League Comeback Player of the Year for the 2025 season, according to MLB. deGrom exceeded expectations for the Rangers this year while coming off Tommy John surgery, even if they weren't able to return to the postseason. The 37-year-old ace had not pitched since April of 2023 before returning in September of 2024. He finished the year 12-8 with a 2.97 ERA and 0.92 WHIP, which trailed only Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal, who won back-to-back AL Cy Young awards, among qualified pitchers. deGrom's strong season earned him the fifth All-Star selection of his career, and he finished eighth in the AL Cy Young voting. Perhaps among the most surprising stats of the season was the fact that deGrom made 30 starts for the first time since 2019.

Jacob deGrom to Start on Monday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (shoulder) is scheduled to take the mound against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. The veteran right-hander was skipped in the rotation the last time through due to shoulder fatigue. He was able to throw a bullpen session without any issues on Saturday. Now, deGrom has been cleared to take the mound on Monday. He holds a 2.76 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and a 148/30 K/BB ratio across 24 starts this season. Fantasy managers should make sure to get him starting on Monday.

Jacob deGrom to Throw on Saturday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday. The right-hander had his last turn in the rotation skipped due to shoulder fatigue. This seemed more like a precautionary measure than any sort of injury. The 37-year-old has a long history of injuries and has already thrown over 140 innings this season. If deGrom throws on Saturday without any issues, then he should start against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. Fantasy managers should check back on Saturday for another update.

Jacob deGrom Being Skipped in Rotation Due to Shoulder Fatigue

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (shoulder) has been scratched from Wednesday's start against the Kansas City Royals. This is never something you want to see given deGrom's injury history. The reasoning for deGrom being pulled off this start is because of right-shoulder fatigue. It sounds like this move is more precautionary with deGrom already at 140 1/3 innings this season. This is the first time that deGrom has surpassed 100 innings in a single season since 2019. He'll likely be evaluated by the team before pitching again. If everything comes back clean, deGrom should be in line to start against the Los Angeles Angels next week.

Jacob deGrom to Get Some Extra Rest to Open Second Half

The Texas Rangers will open the second half of the season this Friday at Globe Life Park against the visiting Detroit Tigers with left-hander Patrick Corbin on the mound, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Corbin will be followed by rookie right-hander Kumar Rocker on Saturday and righty Nathan Eovaldi for the series finale on Sunday. Right-hander Jacob deGrom will get a bit of extra rest coming out of the All-Star break. It won't be easy sledding for any of Corbin, Rocker or Eovaldi against the first-place Tigers, a team that ranks sixth in baseball with an OPS of .749 heading into the second half. deGrom, 37, has a pretty lengthy injury history, and the Rangers want to keep him healthy the rest of the way. He finished the first half by picking up quality starts in seven of his last eight starts while going 5-0 in a span of 49 innings. deGrom should face the A's early next week in a plus matchup.

Jacob deGrom Records Ninth Win

Texas Rangers starter Jacob deGrom won his fifth consecutive decision on Tuesday night in his team's 10-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, bringing his season-long win total to nine. deGrom threw six innings and allowed two earned runs with five hits (one homer allowed), one walk, and six strikeouts. The veteran right-hander has not allowed more than two earned runs in a start since April 11 and is now sporting a 2.13 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in 101 1/3 innings pitched (17 starts). He entered the day with a 25.9% strikeout rate and 20.4% K-BB%, both below career norms but still stellar marks. He remains an elite starting pitcher option in fantasy as long as he's healthy.

Jacob deGrom Throws Seven Scoreless Frames

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom was dominant on Wednesday to pick up his eighth win of the season, pitching seven shutout innings while striking out seven. He allowed one hit and two walks and took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning, but was pulled after Colton Cowser singled to start the frame. After a bit of a rocky start to the season, the veteran pitcher has locked in and held the opposition to two runs or less in 13 straight starts dating back to April 18. The 94 strikeouts in 95 innings are less than usual for the ace, but he is making an intentional effort this season to dial back his velocity in an attempt to stay healthy. Considering he has a 2.08 ERA and 0.91 WHIP on the year, there's no need to be throwing 102 miles per hour. He'll look to repeat this performance in his next start, which is once again set to be against the Orioles.

Jacob deGrom Cruises to Seventh Win

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom pitched six innings of two-run ball to lead his club to a 6-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. The 37-year-old improved to 7-2 after yielding five hits and logging seven strikeouts against one walk. He has now notched four quality starts in four tries this month. Across a 25-inning span in June, deGrom has given up only five runs on 16 hits and posted 25 strikeouts against four walks. In all, deGrom has offered elite-level production with a 2.24 ERA, 87:18 K:BB, and a 0.92 WHIP through 88 1/3 innings. Neither the Rangers nor fantasy managers could have expected more from deGrom after he missed almost all of the previous two seasons because of Tommy John surgery. The two-time Cy Young winner will try to keep rolling Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles.

Jacob deGrom Tosses Seven Scoreless Innings

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom was tough to hit during Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals. The 36-year-old posted his best outing of the season with seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight batters in the win. Another nice performance by deGrom who is looking more like himself as time goes on. He'll take a 2.12 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 74/17 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Minnesota Twins. There is always the concern of injury, but when he's healthy, deGrom is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball.

Jacob deGrom Cleared to Start Against Cardinals

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (finger) is starting in Sunday's series finale against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals at Globe Life Field. deGrom was bothered by a finger issue in his latest outing on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays, when he allowed two earned runs on five hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out none in his second loss of the year in 5 1/3 innings. It was the 36-year-old's shortest outing since he went five innings on May 10 against the Detroit Tigers. Although deGrom threw only 81 pitches on Monday, he shouldn't have any workload restrictions on Sunday unless his finger issue crops up again. Overall in 2025, the two-time Cy Young winner has bounced back nicely from injuries, going 4-2 with a 2.42 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 62 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings over 11 starts. The Cardinals have the 10th-best OPS (.728), but deGrom is a must-start in fantasy.
