Jonathan India Returns to Tuesday's Lineup

Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (groin) returned to Tuesday's Cactus League lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers and got the start at second base while batting leadoff. The Royals removed India as a precaution during Friday's spring training game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with right-groin tightness, but the 29-year-old has returned to action this week. Barring a setback, India will be ready to start on Opening Day later this month in his second year with the team. The former National League Rookie of the Year in 2021 with the Cincinnati Reds struggled in his first year in the American League, slashing .233/.323/.346 with a career-low .669 OPS, nine home runs, 45 RBI, and 63 runs scored over 567 plate appearances and 136 games played. India's fantasy stock is obviously way down -- he's the No. 42-ranked second baseman at RotoBaller -- but perhaps he rebounds for the Royals while sticking at the keystone this year.

Jonathan India Leaves Friday's Game Early With Groin Tightness

Kansas City Royals infielder Jonathan India (groin) left Friday night's Cactus League game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with right-groin tightness, the team announced. Before leaving with the injury, India was 1-for-1 at the plate with a double and a run scored. The 29-year-old was pulled in the third frame. For now, fantasy managers should consider India day-to-day, but with two weeks until Opening Day, his availability for the start of the 2026 regular season is certainly in question. If India's injury lands him on the injured list to begin the year, Michael Massey is the most likely candidate to take over playing time in KC at the keystone. India, a former fifth overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 2018 out of the University of Florida, had the worst year of his career in 2025 in his first season with the Royals, slashing .233/.323/.346 with a .669 OPS, career-low nine home runs, 45 RBI, and 63 runs in 136 games played. He hasn't returned to the 20-homer mark since he won National League Rookie of the Year honors in 2021. His batted-ball metrics support a rebound, but you can get India at a low price late in deep-mixed leagues as middle-infield insurance.

Jonathan India Goes on Injured List With Wrist Sprain

The Kansas City Royals announced on Monday that they placed second baseman Jonathan India (wrist) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 30) with a left-wrist sprain and also recalled right-hander Luinder Avila from Triple-A Omaha. India missed each of the team's last two games before landing on the IL to begin the week. Now that we're in the final month of the season, it's unclear if the 28-year-old will be able to rejoin the Royals for the stretch run as they look to get into the postseason. In the meantime, the Royals top two options to man the keystone will be Micahel Massey and Adam Frazier. India, the National League Rookie of the Year in 2021 with the Cincinnati Reds, has only been useful in AL-only leagues this year as a middle-infield option. He heads to the IL with a weak .232/.324/.342 slash line, a career-low .666 OPS, eight home runs and 41 RBI in 124 games.

Jonathan India the DH on Sunday

Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (forearm, wrist) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff for Sunday's series finale in Canada against the Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Chris Bassitt. Adam Frazier will start at second and hit seventh. India was hit by a pitch in Saturday's loss at Rogers Centre in the third inning and suffered a contusion on his left wrist/forearm. He avoided any serious damage, though, and is back in action a day later to wrap up the weekend series. The former Rookie of the Year is hitless in just two career at-bats against Bassitt and isn't a very attractive DFS piece given his lackluster 2025 season with KC. The 28-year-old is hitting .240/.320/.343 with five homers, 32 RBI and 48 runs and has gone 19-for-87 (.218) with a homer and nine RBI in 23 games since the start of July.

Jonathan India Leaves Early After Hit by Pitch

Kansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Jonathan India (elbow/forearm) exited early against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday after taking a Max Scherzer pitch off the left elbow/forearm. The Royals moved Adam Frazier to second to replace India and brought in Nick Loftin to play left field in the fifth inning. India's now undergoing further evaluation. The 28-year-old went 1-for-1 on Saturday and is now hitting a disappointing .242/.323/.344 with five homers, 32 RBI, 48 runs scored, and no stolen bases over 440 plate appearances.

Jonathan India Back in Royals Lineup

Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (shoulder) is starting at second base and batting leadoff for Friday's series opener on the road in Canada against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Royals pulled India out of the game early on Tuesday, and he didn't play on Wednesday before getting an extra day off on Thursday. The 28-year-old will return this weekend but hasn't really moved the needle for fantasy managers in his first year with the Royals. The former National League Rookie of the Year enters Friday's action slashing an empty .240/.322/.342 with five home runs, 32 RBI, 47 runs scored and no stolen bases in 383 at-bats. He was even worse in the month of July in 23 games played, going 19-for-87 (.218) with a homer, eight doubles, nine RBI and 14 runs scored in 101 trips to the plate.

Jonathan India Out With Sore Shoulder

Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (shoulder) dealt with a sore shoulder after Tuesday's game and will take a seat for Wednesday's contest against the Atlanta Braves, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com. Manager Matt Quatraro said that India is available, but the team is being cautious with him with an off day coming on Thursday. Veteran Adam Frazier is starting at second base and will bat seventh on Wednesday against Braves left-hander Joey Wentz. It's possible that India will be ready to return to the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada. The 28-year-old former fifth overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 2018 out of Florida hasn't been very productive in his first year in KC, slashing a mediocre .240/.322/.342 with a career-low .664 OPS, only five home runs an 32 RBI in 100 games played.

Jonathan India Returns to Royals Lineup

Kansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Jonathan India (shoulder) is back at second base and is hitting leadoff for the Royals in Tuesday's game at Globe Life Field against the Texas Rangers and right-hander Jack Leiter. India is returning to action in Arlington after suffering a left-shoulder subluxation last Friday against the Athletics that kept him out of the final two games of the series over the weekend. The 28-year-old is feeling better after a scheduled day off for travel on Monday. He hasn't really moved the needle in fantasy in his first year in Kansas City, though, hitting .248/.331/.335 with a .666 OPS, three home runs, 18 RBI and 27 runs scored in 242 at-bats. India does have a .277 xBA, though, so positive regression should be coming his way. However, he's currently in the 24th percentile in hard-hit rate and 41st percentile in maximum exit velocity.

Jonathan India Not in Lineup Saturday

Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (shoulder) is not in the lineup Saturday for the club's meeting with the Athletics. Nick Loftin will man the keystone in India's place and bat sixth. India exited the Royals' 6-4 loss to the Athletics in the seventh inning Friday after suffering a shoulder subluxation diving for a ball. The injury doesn't seem severe, but India will get Saturday off as he recovers. The former Red, 28, is hitting .249/.332/.336 with three home runs and 18 RBI over 274 plate appearances in his first season as a Royal.

Jonathan India Leaves With Apparent Shoulder Injury

Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (shoulder) was looked at by a trainer after diving for a ball behind second base on Friday against the visiting Athletics. India initially stayed in the game but was holding his shoulder. MLB.com's Anne Rogers reports that India exited the game in the seventh inning. Nick Loftin moved from left field to second, with Drew Waters entering the game in left field. Before departing, India went 0-for-3 out of the leadoff spot for the Royals. The injury didn't look great for the 28-year-old, so it would be a surprise if he's back in action for Game 2 of the series at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday. If India misses extended time with his shoulder injury, Loftin would be the primary replacement at the keystone in KC. In his first year with the Royals, India hasn't been much of a fantasy asset, as he entered Friday's game with a .252 average, just three homers, 18 RBI and 27 runs.
