Jordan Westburg Shut Down Due to Continued Elbow Discomfort

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) has been shut down from his throwing progression due to continued discomfort in his right elbow, per Jake Rill of MLB.com. Westburg was placed on the 60-day injured list before the start of the 2026 season due to a sprained UCL in his throwing elbow. Westburg is first eligible to come off the IL in late May, but it appears as though his return timeline is currently uncertain. Injuries have been a persistent issue for Westburg, who seems likely to record fewer than 450 plate appearances for the third consecutive season in 2026. Still, he was a productive player when healthy in 2025, hitting .265/.313/.457 with 17 home runs, 41 RBI, 59 runs scored, and one stolen base across 352 plate appearances. With Westburg sidelined, Orioles infielder Coby Mayo has seen the majority of the playing time at third base in Baltimore.

Jordan Westburg to Begin Throwing Progression This Week

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) will begin a throwing progression this week, according to Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan. It's notable progress for Westburg, who won't be eligible to make his 2026 season debut until late May after he was placed on the 60-day injured list with a right UCL sprain before the start of the regular season. The 27-year-old was on track to be a regular for the O's at third base this year before he suffered the elbow injury in spring training. Westburg was an All-Star in just his second year in the majors in 2024, slashing .264/.312/.481 with 18 home runs, 63 RBI, 57 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 107 games. He had another 17 long balls and 41 RBI in 85 games in 2025, and he's a worthy corner-infield stash in deep-mixed fantasy leagues while he recovers. Coby Mayo should continue to be Baltimore's starting third baseman with Westburg sidelined. Westburg is rostered in 29% of Yahoo leagues.

Jordan Westburg Moved To 60-Day Injured List

The Baltimore Orioles announced on Wednesday that they have transferred infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) to the 60-day injured list. Westburg started the season on the 10-day IL after a partial tear in the UCL of his right arm was discovered during imaging early in spring training. Westburg opted against surgery to repair the ligament and instead received a plasma-rich platelet injection on February 20 in the hopes that that treatment, along with rest, would get him back on the field sooner. Westburg's timeline for recovery is still uncertain, but the move to the 60-day IL means that the soonest he will be back in action is May 21. On a positive note, Jacob Calvin Meyer of the Baltimore Sun reports that Westburg has progressed to swinging a bat and playing catch. In the meantime, Coby Mayo is holding down the hot corner in Baltimore, but is off to a 2-and-13 start with one stolen base.

Jordan Westburg to be Sidelined into May

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg (elbow) has already been ruled out for Opening Day and is looking at an extended absence. O's general manager Mike Elias told reporters on Saturday that he expects Westburg to be sidelined into May. Westburg is currently working his way back from a partially torn UCL in his elbow. It sounds like Westburg is progressing well right now, but still has a long road ahead of him. His absence figures to mean increased playing time for Coby Mayo at the hot corner. Also, Blaze Alexander and Jeremiah Jackson could see more at-bats while Westburg is sidelined. Fantasy managers holding Westburg on their IL might be waiting until sometime in May to get anything out of him.

Jordan Westburg Doing Baseball Activities, No Return Timeline

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) is running, fielding, and swinging with his bottom hand, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. It's the extent of Westburg's progress after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his injured right elbow. He currently does not have a timeline for increased baseball activities. Westburg is expected to be out through April due to a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, although the 27-year-old could need surgery down the road if the rest-and-rehab route doesn't solve his issues when he tries to return to game action. We should have a better idea of his timeline once he ramps up his baseball activities, but fantasy managers should definitely expect to be without Westburg for at least the first month of the season, and possibly longer. In his absence, Coby Mayo figures to be the primary beneficiary of playing time in Baltimore at third base, but Blaze Alexander and Jeremiah Jackson could also be involved.

Jordan Westburg Tumbling Down Draft Boards

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) is dealing with an injury that doesn't give him a clear timetable to return, and as a result, his draft stock has plummeted over the last few weeks. Westburg is the No. 22 second baseman and the No. 22 third baseman in RotoBaller's rankings, but the floor has dropped out of his ADP, so he could end up being a late-round value if he falls far enough. Last year, Westburg hit .265 in his 85 games with 17 homers and a .332 wOBA. His averages were on par with his breakout 2024 season, and his power ticked up while his stolen bases were slightly down as he battled injury. He'll need to prove he's healthy and earn playing time back, since prospect Coby Mayo will likely fill in at the hot corner until he returns. Blaze Alexander and Jeremiah Jackson could also end up in the mix at third base, giving Westburg an uncertain path to playing time in addition to his injury risk. He's high-risk, but his ADP is dropping low enough that he could be worth a flier if you can get him late enough as a bench piece.

Jordan Westburg has Uncertain Timetable to Return

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg (elbow) will begin the 2026 campaign on the injured list. Westburg is dealing with a partially torn UCL and will be sidelined through April. The 27-year-old is uncertain about his timetable and when he'll be able to get back to playing baseball. Westburg won't have Tommy John surgery and instead will opt for platelet-rich plasma injections. The Orioles are hopeful the PRP injections will be enough to solve the problem. This is basically going to be a waiting game to see how Westburg responds to the injections. He is going to be out through April and it wouldn't be shocking to see Westburg miss more time than that. In the meantime, Coby Mayo figures to see the bulk of the playing time at third base, while Blaze Alexander could be mixed in as well.

Jordan Westburg has Partially Torn UCL, Out Through April

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) has a partially torn UCL but will not have Tommy John surgery, president of baseball operations Mike Elias told Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun. The Orioles will opt for platelet-rich plasma injections. Westburg will at least be out through April, and his timeline after that is to be determined. Elias added that Westburg's partial UCL tear was deemed a chronic issue, meaning it broke down over time. Baltimore is hoping that the PRP injections will have more success for a position player than a pitcher, given that there is less stress put on the UCL. The injury obviously is a pretty big hit to Westburg's fantasy value going into the 2026 season, and there's certainly a chance he's out much longer than just one month. In the meantime, Coby Mayo is expected to slide over to third base full-time, with Blaze Alexander also being an option at the hot corner.

More Details Coming Soon on Jordan Westburg's Injuries

When asked about infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow, oblique), Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias only confirmed his oblique injury on 105.7 The Fan on Thursday, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. Elias said he will have something to share "very, very soon" when asked about reports of Westburg dealing with an elbow injury in addition to an oblique ailment. The Baltimore Banner's Andy Kostka reported on Thursday that Westburg recently underwent imaging on his elbow, which is why he's still not doing baseball activities in camp. The O's have not given a timetable on Westburg, and it's beginning to look like he won't be ready for Opening Day in late March. Westburg's combination of contact skills and power makes him an intriguing infield depth option in fantasy leagues, but injuries continue to be an issue. Coby Mayo could become the everyday starter at third if Westburg is out for an extended period of time. Stay tuned.

Jordan Westburg Unable to Participate in Baseball Activities

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (oblique) is currently unable to participate in baseball activities in camp, manager Craig Albernaz told Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner. The skipper also declined to say whether it's Westburg's elbow or oblique. "I just want to make sure that we're doing our due diligence and make sure Jordan is in the best chance to play this year," Albernaz said. The 27-year-old came to spring training with a strained right oblique, but it's unclear if something else is bothering him as well. With no timetable to return to the field, his availability for Opening Day is in question. If Westburg is forced to open the 2026 season on the injured list, both Coby Mayo and Blaze Alexander would be options to take over at the hot corner in Baltimore. Injuries continue to be an issue for Westburg, but he makes enough contact and has enough power to be a worthwhile depth option at third base in deep-mixed fantasy leagues when he's available.
