Jordan Westburg Doing Baseball Activities, No Return Timeline

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) is running, fielding, and swinging with his bottom hand, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. It's the extent of Westburg's progress after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his injured right elbow. He currently does not have a timeline for increased baseball activities. Westburg is expected to be out through April due to a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, although the 27-year-old could need surgery down the road if the rest-and-rehab route doesn't solve his issues when he tries to return to game action. We should have a better idea of his timeline once he ramps up his baseball activities, but fantasy managers should definitely expect to be without Westburg for at least the first month of the season, and possibly longer. In his absence, Coby Mayo figures to be the primary beneficiary of playing time in Baltimore at third base, but Blaze Alexander and Jeremiah Jackson could also be involved.

Jordan Westburg Tumbling Down Draft Boards

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) is dealing with an injury that doesn't give him a clear timetable to return, and as a result, his draft stock has plummeted over the last few weeks. Westburg is the No. 22 second baseman and the No. 22 third baseman in RotoBaller's rankings, but the floor has dropped out of his ADP, so he could end up being a late-round value if he falls far enough. Last year, Westburg hit .265 in his 85 games with 17 homers and a .332 wOBA. His averages were on par with his breakout 2024 season, and his power ticked up while his stolen bases were slightly down as he battled injury. He'll need to prove he's healthy and earn playing time back, since prospect Coby Mayo will likely fill in at the hot corner until he returns. Blaze Alexander and Jeremiah Jackson could also end up in the mix at third base, giving Westburg an uncertain path to playing time in addition to his injury risk. He's high-risk, but his ADP is dropping low enough that he could be worth a flier if you can get him late enough as a bench piece.

Jordan Westburg has Uncertain Timetable to Return

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg (elbow) will begin the 2026 campaign on the injured list. Westburg is dealing with a partially torn UCL and will be sidelined through April. The 27-year-old is uncertain about his timetable and when he'll be able to get back to playing baseball. Westburg won't have Tommy John surgery and instead will opt for platelet-rich plasma injections. The Orioles are hopeful the PRP injections will be enough to solve the problem. This is basically going to be a waiting game to see how Westburg responds to the injections. He is going to be out through April and it wouldn't be shocking to see Westburg miss more time than that. In the meantime, Coby Mayo figures to see the bulk of the playing time at third base, while Blaze Alexander could be mixed in as well.

Jordan Westburg has Partially Torn UCL, Out Through April

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow) has a partially torn UCL but will not have Tommy John surgery, president of baseball operations Mike Elias told Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun. The Orioles will opt for platelet-rich plasma injections. Westburg will at least be out through April, and his timeline after that is to be determined. Elias added that Westburg's partial UCL tear was deemed a chronic issue, meaning it broke down over time. Baltimore is hoping that the PRP injections will have more success for a position player than a pitcher, given that there is less stress put on the UCL. The injury obviously is a pretty big hit to Westburg's fantasy value going into the 2026 season, and there's certainly a chance he's out much longer than just one month. In the meantime, Coby Mayo is expected to slide over to third base full-time, with Blaze Alexander also being an option at the hot corner.

More Details Coming Soon on Jordan Westburg's Injuries

When asked about infielder Jordan Westburg (elbow, oblique), Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias only confirmed his oblique injury on 105.7 The Fan on Thursday, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. Elias said he will have something to share "very, very soon" when asked about reports of Westburg dealing with an elbow injury in addition to an oblique ailment. The Baltimore Banner's Andy Kostka reported on Thursday that Westburg recently underwent imaging on his elbow, which is why he's still not doing baseball activities in camp. The O's have not given a timetable on Westburg, and it's beginning to look like he won't be ready for Opening Day in late March. Westburg's combination of contact skills and power makes him an intriguing infield depth option in fantasy leagues, but injuries continue to be an issue. Coby Mayo could become the everyday starter at third if Westburg is out for an extended period of time. Stay tuned.

Jordan Westburg Unable to Participate in Baseball Activities

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (oblique) is currently unable to participate in baseball activities in camp, manager Craig Albernaz told Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner. The skipper also declined to say whether it's Westburg's elbow or oblique. "I just want to make sure that we're doing our due diligence and make sure Jordan is in the best chance to play this year," Albernaz said. The 27-year-old came to spring training with a strained right oblique, but it's unclear if something else is bothering him as well. With no timetable to return to the field, his availability for Opening Day is in question. If Westburg is forced to open the 2026 season on the injured list, both Coby Mayo and Blaze Alexander would be options to take over at the hot corner in Baltimore. Injuries continue to be an issue for Westburg, but he makes enough contact and has enough power to be a worthwhile depth option at third base in deep-mixed fantasy leagues when he's available.

Jordan Westburg's Oblique is Progressing, Still on Track for Opening Day

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (oblique) continues to rehab his strained oblique and feels "pretty good," per Andy Kostka of the Baltimore Banner. The 26-year-old Westburg missed large chunks of time in both 2024 and 2025 due to injury, so to pick up an injury already in the preseason is concerning, especially since the right-handed slugger stated that he tried to prepare his body this offseason so that he could avoid the injury bug this year. When on the field, though, the former 30th-overall draft pick has been productive, slashing .265/.312/.470 with a .336 wOBA and 120 wRC+ in 192 games over the last two years. Currently slotted in at third base for the O's, the Mississippi State product could also occupy second base for the injured Jackson Holliday (hand) if need be, both of which he's position-eligible for on Yahoo!. As it stands, Westburg is not in jeopardy of missing Opening Day, but it's a situation to monitor. RotoBaller has him ranked at 139 overall for fantasy, a bit lower than his NFBC ADP of 128.

Jordan Westburg to be Slow-Played Due to Strained Oblique

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg (oblique) is dealing with a strained oblique and will be slow-played to start spring training, according to Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun. President of baseball operations Mike Elias said he doesn't expect Westburg to play in Grapefruit League games right away, but he's not currently in jeopardy of missing Opening Day in late March. It's something to watch for the 26-year-old this spring. Baltimore's starting infield is a bit banged up early on, with starting second baseman Jackson Holliday (hand) set to open the regular season on the injured list with a broken hamate bone. Westburg missed extended stretches in 2025 due to injury as well, first with a hamstring injury, and then due to a right-ankle sprain. When healthy, he makes enough contact and has enough power to be a worthy corner-infield bat. Westburg should be a lock for 20 homers if he can stay healthy.

Don't Give Up on Jordan Westburg

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg was an All-Star in his second MLB season in 2024, when he hit .264/.312/.481 with a .792 OPS and career-highs in home runs (18) and RBI (63) in 107 games played. Westburgh took a slight step back in 2025 and played in just 85 games. The 26-year-old former first-rounder in 2020 out of Mississippi State slashed .265/.313/.457 with a .770 OPS, 17 home runs, 41 RBI, and 59 runs scored for the O's. Most of the disappointment came in the form of injuries -- he missed six-plus weeks with a hamstring injury and a month with a right-ankle sprain. Westburg is probably only eligible at third base in most fantasy baseball leagues going into 2026, but his high contact rates and power stroke still give him upside in Baltimore if he can avoid injuries. If you wait at the position, Westburg is a decent low-end starting third baseman with the clear potential for 20-plus home runs over a full season.

Jordan Westburg Reinstated and Starting on Tuesday

The Baltimore Orioles announced on Tuesday that they reinstated infielder Jordan Westburg (ankle) from the 10-day injured list and designated infielder Emmanuel Rivera for assignment in a corresponding move. Westburg will serve as the designated hitter and bat cleanup in his return in Tuesday's game against the hosting Chicago White Sox and right-hander Shane Smith. The 26-year-old will return for the tail end of the 2025 season after missing almost a month with a sprained right ankle. It's been an injury-plagued campaign for Westburg, as he's played in only 73 games while slashing .276/.326/.473 with 15 home runs, 34 RBI, and 53 runs scored. Despite all the missed time, Westburg needs only four homers to set a new career high after he hit 18 as an All-Star in 2023. The O's will ease him back in as the DH, but normally, he operates as their starting third baseman.
