Masyn Winn Receiving "Preventative Care" for Back Issue

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (back) has continued to "undergo preventative care" for a lower-back issue that dates back to last year, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Winn dealt with back spasms in 2025 and has already had hip and shin injuries this season. There's no current injury that fantasy managers should be worried about, but it's a situation to monitor, and it could mean that the Cardinals will give Winn more regular days off in the future. Goold mentions that the team is "seeking ways for him to reduce mileage." The 24-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 didn't look great initially to open the 2026 campaign, but he's heating up of late and appears to be locked in at the plate. Overall, Winn is slashing .257/.354/.400 with a .754 OPS, a homer, nine RBI, 11 runs scored, and three steals in 70 at-bats. He's currently riding an eight-game hitting streak in which he's gone 12-for-31 (.387) with a homer, three doubles, a triple, eight RBI, six runs, and a steal. Keep Winn locked into starting lineups where he's rostered.

Masyn Winn Sitting Out Another Contest

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (shin) was hopeful that he'd be back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the visiting Boston Red Sox, but he will be held out as a precaution with a shin injury, according to MLB.com. Thomas Saggese will make the start at the 6 for St. Louis and will hit seventh against Red Sox left-hander Ranger Suarez. Winn was pulled from Friday's series opener against Boston after he was hit by a pitch in his left shin. It doesn't sound like a very serious injury, so Winn should be ready to play in Sunday's series finale at Busch Stadium against the BoSox. Perhaps the day of rest will be good for Winn, who has really struggled at the plate in his first 39 at-bats in 2026. Winn is hitting just .154 (six hits) with no homers, an RBI, five runs scored, two stolen bases, six walks, and eight strikeouts. Saggese will be a low-upside DFS play near the bottom of the batting order on Saturday against a pitcher whom he has never faced.

Masyn Winn Believes he Will Return on Saturday

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (leg) is optimistic that he will play on Saturday despite his early departure in Friday night's contest due to a leg injury. The 24-year-old was hit by a pitch on his left leg and forced to leave the game with a contusion. The young shortstop is off to a slow start to the season, recording just six hits over 39 at-bats. He says that he feels better today, and the hope is that he can suit up for action and improve on what's been a tough 2026 so far at the plate. If he cannot, Thomas Saggese will likely get the nod, as it was he who replaced Winn last night.

Masyn Winn Out of Saturday's Lineup

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (hip) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game on the road in Detroit against the Tigers, according to MLB.com. Winn was forced from Friday's game against the Tigers early due to left-hip tightness that he said originated from when he was taking batting practice earlier this week. It doesn't appear to be a very serious injury for the 24-year-old, though, so it's possible that Winn could return to the starting lineup for the Red Birds for Sunday's series finale. With Winn out on Saturday, Thomas Saggese will start at the 6 and will hit sixth against Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty. Saggese has never faced Flaherty in his young MLB career. Winn's hip injury will make it more difficult for the shortstop to get out of his early-season, small-sample-size slump, as he's started the 2026 season by going 5-for-28 (.179) with two doubles, an RBI, a steal, two walks, and five strikeouts in seven games played. Check back on Sunday to see if Winn is feeling good enough to return to action.

Masyn Winn Leaves Early on Friday With Hip Tightness

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (hip) left Friday's game early against the Detroit Tigers due to left-hip tightness, according to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News. Winn said that he injured his hip initially while taking batting practice on Tuesday, and he was eventually lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning on Friday. The 24-year-old is day-to-day for now and isn't expected to play in Saturday's game, although he could be back for the series finale against the Tigers on Sunday. Before departing on Friday, Winn went 1-for-3 out of the leadoff spot for St. Louis in the eventual 4-0 loss. The Cardinals may slide infield prospect JJ Wetherholt over to the 6 on Saturday while Winn recovers from his hip injury. Now injured, Winn has been quiet in the early going so far in 2026, going 4-for-25 (.160) with two doubles, an RBI, two runs scored, two walks, and five strikeouts in six games played. Hopefully, his hip injury isn't all that serious, and he just misses one game this weekend.

Masyn Winn Is "OK" After Single-Car Accident

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Wednesday after the team's walk-off win against the Mets. Winn had the game-winning hit and is 4-for-25 (.160) with two doubles, two walks, and a stolen base in his first six games. The team said the accident was a result of wet pavement and that Winn was alone in his car. He was examined at a nearby hospital and did not suffer any serious injuries. The Cardinals have an off-day on Thursday and are back in action on Friday as they head to Detroit and Washington for a six-game road trip. It doesn't seem like Winn will miss any significant time, but if he needs any time off, Ram n Ur as and Jos Ferm n would be the leading candidates to pick up extra work.

Masyn Winn Sits Out on Monday Due to Arm Soreness

The St. Louis Cardinals are holding shortstop Masyn Winn (arm) out of the Grapefruit League lineup on Monday against the Miami Marlins due to right-arm soreness, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Manager Oliver Marmol said that Winn is "fine" and that his soreness is the result of a "heavy" workload on Sunday. The 23-year-old is expected to return to spring training action later this week on Thursday or Friday, but he could also play in an exhibition game on Wednesday against Team Nicaragua. Through four Grapefruit League games, Winn has gone 2-for-8 at the plate with a stolen base. A knee injury that eventually required meniscus surgery last year may have been to blame for his disappointing offensive numbers. He had a .253/.310/.363 slash line .673 OPS, nine homers, 51 RBI, and nine steals in 129 games. Winn could bounce back some with better health, but with middling power and speed, there's limited upside here. He profiles better as a middle-infield option in mixed fantasy leagues.

Masyn Winn Entering 2026 Fully Healthy After Injury-Marred 2025 Campaign

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) had his 2025 season cut short by a meniscus tear in his knee that led to him getting shut down in mid-September. However, the 23-year-old will reportedly enter 2026 Spring Training fully healthy and could be poised for a breakout season as a result. Across 537 plate appearances in 2025, Winn posted a .253/.310/.363 slash line with nine home runs, 51 RBI, 72 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. He was significantly better in the early part of the season, recording a .276/.352/.435 slash line through the end of May. Winn was reportedly battling knee soreness for an extended stretch before eventually getting shut down, so it's possible that the ailment impacted his performance in the second half. Winn is known as one of MLB's better defensive shortstops, which should give him an extended runway of everyday playing time in St. Louis. If he can put together a full season of the production he flashed to begin 2025, Winn could be a sleeper candidate for fantasy managers to target late in drafts.

Masyn Winn Won't Have Any Limitations in Spring Training

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) feels healthy and says he is extremely excited to take the field again, facing no limitations in Spring Training. The Gold Glove-winning shortstop was shut down in mid-September for an arthroscopic procedure on his knee to deal with a torn meniscus. He impressed with a .253/.310/.363 triple-slash line despite playing through the knee issue most of the season. The injury may have limited his aggression on the basepaths, where he finished with nine stolen bases to go with his nine homers, 51 RBI, and 72 runs scored. He's expected to be a key part of the Cardinals' lineup in 2026, and he could be a sneaky source of steals and run production if fully healthy and hitting at the top of the order. The Cardinals did lose some key bats, though, so the lineup could struggle as a whole next season.

Masyn Winn Undergoes Successfull Knee Surgery

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) had successful surgery on Thursday to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee in Texas, according to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News. Previous estimates have Winn returning to full baseball activities by January, which means he should be ready in plenty of time before spring training. Winn had been playing through the injury for a while, but once it was clear that the Cardinals weren't going to be in the postseason, they shut him down. The 23-year-old is an excellent defender and can also contribute offensively, although he's not a high-end fantasy shortstop due to a lack of power. In his third big-league season, Winn finished with a .253/.310/.363 slash line, .673 OPS, nine home runs, 51 RBI, 72 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in 129 games played. He should be just fine for Opening Day in 2026, barring a setback during his offseason rehab.
