Masyn Winn Returns From Thumb Injury on Wednesday

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (thumb) is back at shortstop and will hit sixth on Wednesday against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks and left-hander Mitch Bratt at Busch Stadium, according to MLB.com. Winn was originally slated to miss a second straight game on Wednesday due to thumb soreness, but he was a late addition to the lineup. The 24-year-old's season-long numbers aren't anything special at all -- he's hitting .245/.321/.339 with three home runs, 31 RBI, 32 runs, and six stolen bases in 257 at-bats -- but he comes into Wednesday's tilt riding a seven-game hitting streak. During that streak, he has gone 11-for-28 (.393) with a homer, two doubles, five RBI, and six runs scored in 30 plate appearances. Winn has never faced Bratt in his major-league career. Against left-handers in 2026, Winn has gone 19-for-63 (.302) with none of his three home runs in 75 plate appearances.

Masyn Winn Out on Tuesday With Thumb Soreness

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (thumb) is out of the team's starting lineup on Tuesday evening with soreness in his left thumb, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. With Winn sitting out, rookie infielder JJ Wetherholt will make the start at the 6 at Busch Stadium and will bat leadoff against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Jose Fermin draws into the starting lineup at second base and will hit sixth for the Red Birds. It's a bad time for an injury to surface for Winn, who is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak in which he's gone 11-for-28 (.393) with a homer, two doubles, five RBI, and six runs scored in 30 plate appearances to boost his season slash line to .245/.321/.339 in 293 plate appearances. For now, we'll consider the 24-year-old shortstop to be day-to-day. Fantasy managers should check back on Wednesday to see if Winn is ready to return to action. Winn has looked better at the plate recently, but on the season as a whole, he still has only three long balls, 31 RBI, 32 runs, and six steals in 69 games played for St. Louis.

Masyn Winn Returns From Knee Injury on Wednesday

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates after an MRI exam on his left knee came back clean, according to MLB.com. Winn is back at the 6 and is batting sixth against Pirates right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski at Busch Stadium. A left-knee injury kept Winn out of the starting nine for Tuesday's series opener against the Bucs, but he's back in there a day later for Game 2 of the series in St. Louis. The 24-year-old hasn't been much to look at so far in 2024 from a fantasy perspective, as he's slashing a mediocre .255/.331/.353 with a .684 OPS, just one home run, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored, and four stolen bases across 41 games and 175 plate appearances. The former second-rounder does have a hit in five of his last six games, though, going 6-for-22 (.273) over that span with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored. Winn is hitting .333 with a .666 OPS in a small sample size of just six career at-bats against Mlodzinski.

MRI Comes Back Negative on Masyn Winn's Knee

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is considered day-to-day after an MRI exam on his left knee came back negative, according to Amber Winkler of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Despite having an off day on Monday, Winn was not in the starting lineup for the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday after injuring his knee in the loss to the Kansas City Royals in Sunday's series finale. The good news with his MRI means that Winn could be back in action as early as Game 2 of the series against Pittsburgh on Wednesday. With Winn out on Tuesday, the Cards gave Cesar Prieto the start at the 6. The 24-year-old former second-round pick back in 2020 has slashed .255/.331/.353 with a .684 OPS, only one home run, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 175 plate appearances this season across 41 games played. Fantasy managers will want to check back a bit later to see if Winn is back in St. Louis' starting lineup against Pirates right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski.

Masyn Winn Not Ready to Return From Knee Injury

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is still bothered by his knee injury and is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium, according to MLB.com. Cesar Prieto will make the start at the 6 and bat seventh against Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. Winn was pulled from Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals early due to discomfort in his left knee, and he's still out of action despite the team having a day off on Monday. It's not the same knee that Winn had surgery on last September to fix a meniscus injury. For now, fantasy managers should continue to label him as day-to-day. The 24-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 offers a modest blend of power and speed at a premium position in fantasy baseball for the Red Birds. Through 41 games in 2026 in his third full season in the majors, Winn is hitting a mediocre .255/.331/.353 with a .684 OPS, only one homer, 17 RBI, 18 runs, and four stolen bases across 41 games and 175 plate appearances.

Masyn Winn Exits with Knee Discomfort

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) was forced to make an early exit from Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Winn appeared to tweak his knee while running out a fielder's choice in the seventh inning. He was pulled out of the game for a pinch-hitter and will undergo further testing. Winn finished the day going 1-for-2 at the plate with a single and a hit by pitch. If Winn does end up missing any action, Cesar Prieto would likely get a chance to play some shortstop. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update on Winn's status.

Masyn Winn Receiving "Preventative Care" for Back Issue

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (back) has continued to "undergo preventative care" for a lower-back issue that dates back to last year, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Winn dealt with back spasms in 2025 and has already had hip and shin injuries this season. There's no current injury that fantasy managers should be worried about, but it's a situation to monitor, and it could mean that the Cardinals will give Winn more regular days off in the future. Goold mentions that the team is "seeking ways for him to reduce mileage." The 24-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 didn't look great initially to open the 2026 campaign, but he's heating up of late and appears to be locked in at the plate. Overall, Winn is slashing .257/.354/.400 with a .754 OPS, a homer, nine RBI, 11 runs scored, and three steals in 70 at-bats. He's currently riding an eight-game hitting streak in which he's gone 12-for-31 (.387) with a homer, three doubles, a triple, eight RBI, six runs, and a steal. Keep Winn locked into starting lineups where he's rostered.

Masyn Winn Sitting Out Another Contest

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (shin) was hopeful that he'd be back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the visiting Boston Red Sox, but he will be held out as a precaution with a shin injury, according to MLB.com. Thomas Saggese will make the start at the 6 for St. Louis and will hit seventh against Red Sox left-hander Ranger Suarez. Winn was pulled from Friday's series opener against Boston after he was hit by a pitch in his left shin. It doesn't sound like a very serious injury, so Winn should be ready to play in Sunday's series finale at Busch Stadium against the BoSox. Perhaps the day of rest will be good for Winn, who has really struggled at the plate in his first 39 at-bats in 2026. Winn is hitting just .154 (six hits) with no homers, an RBI, five runs scored, two stolen bases, six walks, and eight strikeouts. Saggese will be a low-upside DFS play near the bottom of the batting order on Saturday against a pitcher whom he has never faced.

Masyn Winn Believes he Will Return on Saturday

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (leg) is optimistic that he will play on Saturday despite his early departure in Friday night's contest due to a leg injury. The 24-year-old was hit by a pitch on his left leg and forced to leave the game with a contusion. The young shortstop is off to a slow start to the season, recording just six hits over 39 at-bats. He says that he feels better today, and the hope is that he can suit up for action and improve on what's been a tough 2026 so far at the plate. If he cannot, Thomas Saggese will likely get the nod, as it was he who replaced Winn last night.

Masyn Winn Out of Saturday's Lineup

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (hip) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game on the road in Detroit against the Tigers, according to MLB.com. Winn was forced from Friday's game against the Tigers early due to left-hip tightness that he said originated from when he was taking batting practice earlier this week. It doesn't appear to be a very serious injury for the 24-year-old, though, so it's possible that Winn could return to the starting lineup for the Red Birds for Sunday's series finale. With Winn out on Saturday, Thomas Saggese will start at the 6 and will hit sixth against Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty. Saggese has never faced Flaherty in his young MLB career. Winn's hip injury will make it more difficult for the shortstop to get out of his early-season, small-sample-size slump, as he's started the 2026 season by going 5-for-28 (.179) with two doubles, an RBI, a steal, two walks, and five strikeouts in seven games played. Check back on Sunday to see if Winn is feeling good enough to return to action.
