Omar Narváez News
The New York Mets and free-agent catcher Omar Narvaez agreed to a one-year deal worth $8 million on Thursday that includes a $7 million player option for the 2024 season. Narvaez comes to Queens after serving as the Milwaukee Brewers' primary catcher over the last three years. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2021, but he took a big step back in 2022 by slashing just .206/.292/.305 with four home runs, 23 RBI and 21 runs scored in 296 plate appearances and 84 games played. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter will join a Mets roster that already includes backstops Francisco Alvarez (a top prospect), James McCann and Tomas Nido. Alvarez is eventually expected to become the primary catcher, so playing time might be hard to come by for Narvaez in his new digs.
The Milwaukee Brewers activated catcher Omar Narvaez (quadriceps) from the 10-day injured list on Saturday and optioned catcher Mario Feliciano to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Narvaez went 3-for-8 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in two minor league rehab games with Nashville before the Brewers felt comfortable bringing him back to the big leagues as their primary backstop. He should be back in the starting lineup on Saturday against right-hander Marcus Stroman and the Chicago Cubs. The 30-year-old veteran catcher will return to a .237/.324/.363 slash line in 2022 with four home runs, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored in 190 at-bats for the Brew Crew.
Milwaukee Brewers skipper Craig Counsell said that catcher Omar Narvaez (quadriceps) will probably return from the 10-day injured list on Saturday. In two games on his minor league rehab assignment for Triple-A Nashville, Narvaez has gone 3-for-8 with two RBI and a run scored, so he's nearing a return to the major league roster. The 30-year-old will return to primary catching duties for Milwaukee when he's activated. He's hit a very modest .237/.324/.363 with four home runs, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored for the Brew Crew this year in only 190 at-bats. Victor Caratini and Mario Feliciano have been splitting playing time behind the dish with Narvaez on the injured list.
