Joey Loperfido Looking to Make Impact in World Series After Limited ALCS Role

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido replaced Anthony Santander (back) ahead of Game 4 of the ALCS and will look to make an impact in the upcoming World Series. The young outfielder has primarily been used as a pinch-runner and late-game substitute, recording just one at-bat this postseason. After joining Toronto from the Houston Astros in 2024, Loperfido impressed in limited regular-season action this year, slashing .333/.379/.500 over 41 games. With his raw talent and versatility, Loperfido will look to make the most of his opportunities as the Blue Jays pursue their first World Series title in over three decades.

Joey Loperfido Continues Sitting Out

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (knee) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This marks the third game in a row that Loperfido has been out of the starting lineup due to a right knee contusion. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day, but he could land on the injured list if he doesn't get better soon. In the meantime, Davis Schneider, Daulton Varsho, and Myles Straw will cover the outfield on Saturday. Fantasy managers should check back on Sunday for another update on his status.

Joey Loperfido Taking a Seat Again in Series Opener

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (knee) will take a seat on the bench for Friday's series opener in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. Loperfido injured his knee in Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field and will now miss his second straight game. X-rays came back negative on the 26-year-old, though, so he figures to get back on the field at some point this weekend. Davis Schneider will start in left field and bat leadoff, while Myles Straw is in right field and hitting ninth against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw on Friday. Schneider has never faced Kershaw in his career, while Straw is hitless in six at-bats against him. Schneider will be the better DFS sleeper at the top of the batting order. He has hit .281 (9-for-32) with two home runs, two doubles, nine RBI, a steal and five runs scored in his last 11 games. Scheider hit two of his seven homers on the year on Wednesday.

Joey Loperfido Out on Wednesday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (knee) will come out of the lineup for Wednesday's game at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies after getting hit on the right knee by a pitch in Tuesday's victory. Davis Schneider is manning left field and will bat leadoff against Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland on Wednesday. X-rays came back negative on Loperfido's knee, but the Blue Jays will hold him out against a southpaw. Consider the 26-year-old to be day-to-day. His next chance to return will be for Friday's series opener in L.A. against the Dodgers after a scheduled day off on Thursday. Schneider has some sleeper appeal in DFS in the leadoff spot at hitter-friendly Coors Field, although he's hitting just .226 (24-for-106) on the year with five homers and 17 RBI. He is hitless in three career at-bats against Freeland.

Joey Loperfido Exits Tuesday With Right-Knee Contusion

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (knee) exited Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Rockies in the sixth inning with a right knee contusion. Loperfido was hit by a 98-MPH fastball in the knee and exited the game immediately. X-rays were negative, per MLB's Keegan Matheson, but fantasy managers should wait for further updates in the coming days. The 26-year-old went 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout before being replaced by Myles Straw. Hopefully, he won't have to miss too much time, as Loperfido has been crushing the baseball with a .389/.436/.542 slash line since getting called up at the beginning of July.

George Springer Still Out, Joey Loperfido Returns on Wednesday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (head) remains out of Wednesday's series finale at Camden Yards against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Dean Kremer. Meanwhile, outfielder Joey Loperfido (thumb) is starting in right field and will bat leadoff on Wednesday after jamming his left thumb on a play at the plate in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader. The 26-year-old sat out Game 2 as a precaution but is now back in the lineup and will be a DFS sleeper out of the leadoff spot. Springer was hit by a pitch on his ear flap in Monday's series opener in Baltimore and will miss his third straight game. The 35-year-old veteran is hoping to avoid a stint on the injured list and has been feeling better, so perhaps he'll be cleared to play for Friday's series opener against the Kansas City Royals after a scheduled off day on Thursday.

X-Rays Come Back Negative on Joey Loperfido

X-rays came back negative on Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (thumb) after he jammed his left thumb in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to Shi Dividi of Sportsnet. Loperfido initially stayed in the game after injuring his thumb on a play at the plate in the fourth inning before eventually coming out of the contest. The 26-year-old provided three hits, including a home run, before departing, so it wasn't all bad for him. Loperfido probably will not be in the lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader, but since he escaped any major damage, it's possible he'll be back in there for Wednesday's game at Camden Yards. He came into Tuesday's games with only 16 games played in the big leagues, but he was hitting .341 before his three-hit day with two homers and seven RBI.

Joey Loperfido Scratched on Friday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (illness) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Athletics. Loperfido was planning to play through the illness, but ultimately has decided to take the night off. Myles Straw will take over in center field and bat ninth versus right-hander Luis Severino on Friday. Fantasy managers should consider Loperfido as day-to-day for now. Loperfido isn't someone that needs to be rostered right now, but he does have five hits over his last four games. Possibly, Loperfido becomes a deep league option, assuming he continues to hit well.

Joey Loperfido Returning to Major Leagues

The Toronto Blue Jays have promoted outfielder Joey Loperfido to the major leagues. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays have placed second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain. Loperfido made his MLB debut last season but has yet to appear in an MLB game this season. Through 81 games in the majors last season (split between time in Houston and Toronto), Loperfido held a .214/.264/.350 slash line with four home runs and four stolen bases. This season, the Duke product has been very productive at Triple-A, holding a .278/.354/.422 slash line with 20 doubles and six round-trippers. With Daulton Varsho (hamstring) still sidelined, Loperfido could carve out a role in center field. He is worth adding in AL-only formats for the time being.

Joey Loperfido Optioned To Triple-A

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday. Loperfido had a real shot at making the Opening Day roster, but really struggled with the bat in camp. He went 6-for-29 with two RBI, so he'll head to the minors to work on his game. The 25-year-old was traded to Toronto last season from Houston in part of the Yusei Kikuchi trade. Loperfido does have the potential to be an everyday player in the MLB, but might need a little more work in the minor leagues.
