Blue Jays
Toronto Blue Jays rookie outfielder Joey Loperfido is not in the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener at the Rogers Centre against the visiting Miami Marlins. With Loperfido starting on the bench, fellow outfield prospect Jonatan Clase is starting in center field and is batting eighth against Marlins right-hander Adam Oller. Loperfido, 25, has appeared at both center field and left field for Toronto and has mostly struggled offensively since being acquired from the Houston Astros at the trade deadline in the deal that sent lefty Yusei Kikuchi to Houston. Loperfido has gone 27-for-130 (.208) with two homers, eight RBI, two steals and 48 strikeouts in his 41 games in Toronto. Clase, who was also acquired via trade with the Mariners this year, will be playing in just his sixth game with the Jays. So far, he's gone 6-for-12 with a homer, double and two RBI in 14 plate appearances.

Joey Loperfido Returning On Wednesday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (hip) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old has been out of the lineup since suffering a groin injury during Saturday's contest. It appears the rookie outfielder is ready to go and will cover center field and bat eighth versus left-hander Cody Bradford on Wednesday. Loperfido doesn't face left-handed pitching very often, but does have decent results in a small sample size. He's not a great DFS option for Wednesday, but fantasy managers in season-long formats can get him back in their lineups.

Joey Loperfido Exits Saturday Early
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (hip) left Saturday's game early due to left adductor discomfort, according to Mike Wallner of the Toronto Star. The 25-year-old was lifted in the fifth inning after grabbing his hip in pain. He was replaced by infielder Luis De Los Santos after Addison Barger shifted to cover left field. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to Sunday's starting nine, as the Duke product may need an extra day off. Since the start of the month, Loperfido has carried a .250/.276/.357 line with three doubles and three RBI. If Loperfido happens to miss an extended period of time, Davis Schneider will likely see an uptick in playing time in the outfield.

Joey Loperfido Back In The Lineup
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido is back in the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. The rookie slugger sat out on Monday, which appears to have been a routine rest game. He'll return to the lineup on Tuesday, but he'll face left-hander David Peterson. Loperfido has limited playing time against left-handed pitching this season. He's hitting 6-for-33 with one home run against the southpaw during his time in the majors. Loperfido won't be an ideal DFS option for Tuesday, but fantasy managers in season long formats can get him back in their lineups.

Joey Loperfido, Addison Barger Both Sitting On Wednesday
Toronto Blue Jays rookie outfielders Joey Loperfido and Addison Barger (knee) are both out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale at Rogers Centre against the Philadelphia Phillies. Davis Schneider is in left field and batting eighth, and catcher Alejandro Kirk is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup against Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sanchez. Loperfido hasn't been afforded regular playing time since joining the team at the trade deadline and has hit just .198 (18-for-91) with two homers and six RBI in his 27 games with Toronto. Barger homered on Tuesday but also left the contest early with a left- knee injury, so he should be considered day-to-day. With the Blue Jays having Thursday off, the hope is that the 24-year-old Barger can return for the series opener on Friday in Atlanta against the Braves.

Spencer Horwitz, Joey Loperfido Both Sitting On Saturday
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Spencer Horwitz and outfielder Joey Loperfido will take a seat on Saturday as the Blue Jays will face left-handed pitcher Justin Steele. Horwitz has started every game this month, so he will be getting a deserved day off, while Loperfido will once again take a seat against a left-handed pitcher, as he has made only four starts against them this season. As a result, George Springer will shift to DH to cover for Horwitz, while Davis Schneider will cover left field for Loperfido. Horwitz has held a modest .229 AVG this month, while Loperfido holds a disappointing .132 AVG. Horwitz could return to the lineup on Sunday, but fantasy managers should expect Loperfido to take a seat again as the Cubs are scheduled to send out lefty Shota Imanaga in the series finale. Both Springer and Schneider are best to leave off your DFS lineup this afternoon as Steele holds a solid 3.16 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP through the summer and allowed just one run in his previous start.

Joey Loperfido Taking A Seat On Sunday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The rookie slugger has started the last three games and will get the day off against a left-handed starting pitcher. The 24-year-old has struggled a bit lately but should continue to get regular at-bats down the stretch of the season. In his absence, Davis Schneider will cover left field and bat seventh versus left-hander JP Sears.

Joey Loperfido 4-For-18 To Begin Blue Jays Tenure
Toronto Blue Jays rookie outfielder Joey Loperfido, who was part of the package sent to Toronto in last week's trade that sent left-hander Yusei Kikuchi to the Houston Astros, has gotten off to a 4-for-18 (.222) start in four games with his new team. Loperfido has tripled and struck out nine times in his first 19 plate appearances with Toronto, so it hasn't exactly been a great start with his new club after he slashed .236/.299/.358 with two homers, 16 RBI, two stolen bases and 11 runs scored in his first 38 big-league games earlier this year in Houston. Two of the 25-year-old's hits came in Friday's win over the New York Yankees. He's seen most of his playing time in left field so far for the Jays and should see more consistent playing time to close out the year in 2024 than he was getting with the Astros.

Joey Loperfido Sent To Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired first baseman/outfielder Joey Loperfido from the Houston Astros on Monday as part of the deal that sent left-handed starter Yusei Kikuchi to the Astros, according to sources. In addition to Loperfido, the Astros shipped right-hander Jake Bloss and infielder Will Wagner, the son of former Houston great Billy Wagner, to Toronto. The 25-year-old Loperfido made his MLB debut earlier this year and has mostly struggled, batting .236/.299/.358 with a weak .658 OPS, two homers, five doubles, a triple, 16 RBI, two steals, seven walks and 43 K's in 118 plate appearances over 38 games. Loperfido's defensive versatility and above-average power-speed combination make him worth rostering in deep-mixed leagues, especially now that he's moving to a hitter-friendly ballpark in Toronto.

Joey Loperfido Inconsistent In Latest Major-League Stint
Houston Astros outfield prospect Joey Loperfido has struggled to find consistent playing time in his latest major league stint, which, unfortunately, has begun to affect his performance. Since June 30, Loperfido has held a .233/.294/.467 line with one home run, two doubles, nine RBI, and a 2:9 BB:K ratio. Also, the Duke product has never started more than three games in a row in this span. However, Loperfido has done very well in hitting fastballs with a .346 BA and .500 SLG against them, but his poor .080 BA and .120 SLG against breaking balls have brought his production down. If the 25-year-old could begin to earn more stable playing time, he could work out these struggles. Until then, he remains a target only in deeper formats.
