Paul Skenes the Unanimous NL Cy Young Winner

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Paul Skenes won the National League Cy Young award on Wednesday night, getting all 30 first-place votes one season after winning Rookie of the Year, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sanchez finished second in the voting, with Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto coming in third. It's crazy how quickly Skenes has become one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball. In his first two years in the majors, Skenes' 1.96 career ERA is the lowest through 55 starts in any pitcher's career since 1920. The former first overall pick out of LSU only got 3.4 runs of support per game, the third-lowest of any qualified pitcher in 2025. His MLB-best 1.97 ERA was more than a half-run lower than his closest competition in the NL. Skenes is the first pitcher in MLB to have a sub-2.00 ERA with at least 185 innings since Jacob deGrom did it in 2018. He's going to be a mainstay as the top-rated fantasy starting pitcher for years to come.

Pirates Won't Trade Paul Skenes

USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates "won't even listen to trade proposals" for right-hander Paul Skenes. The 23-year-old pitching phenom is already one of the best pitchers in baseball, but the rebuilding Pirates won't consider trading away the former first overall pick and the 2024 National League Rookie of the Year. Skenes is already a two-time All-Star and followed up his special first year in the big leagues by going 10-10 with a league-best 1.97 ERA (2.36 FIP) and league-best 0.95 WHIP with a career-best 216 strikeouts and 42 walks in 187 2/3 innings over his 32 starts. Skenes headlines an intriguing young pitching staff for the Bucs that will remain the strength of their team heading into next season. In fantasy baseball, Skenes will be the most coveted No. 1 starter.

Paul Skenes Dominant in Win Over Dodgers

Pittsburgh Pirates ace right-hander Paul Skenes (10-9) stymied the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 5-3 victory on Thursday to pick up his 10th win of the season. Skenes held the Dodgers scoreless over six innings of two-hit ball and registered eight strikeouts against one walk on 94 pitches (65 strikes). It was the 19th quality start this year for Skenes, who has limited the opposition to one earned run or fewer an incredible 18 times in 29 tries. The NL Cy Young front-runner now boasts a 1.98 ERA with a .94 WHIP, 195 strikeouts, and 39 walks in 173 innings. Skenes is scheduled to make his next start against the Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 11.

Paul Skenes Fires Six Scoreless Innings in Win

Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes turned in his latest standout performance in a 7-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Despite allowing a career-worst seven hits, Skenes tossed six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts against no walks to improve to 7-8 on the season. The 23-year-old right-hander has now held the opposition without an earned run in a jaw-dropping 10 of 24 starts in 2025. His 1.94 ERA leads the majors, while he ranks third in innings (144) and WHIP (.92), and has posted 162 strikeouts against 34 walks. The NL Cy Young hopeful will make his next start against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. Skenes has faced them twice this season with mixed results. He held the Brewers to one earned run over six innings on May 23, but they got to him for four earned runs in four frames on June 25.

Pirates Could Preserve Paul Skenes in Second Half

Pittsburgh PG's Noah Hiles doesn't believe that the Pittsburgh Pirates will skip any of right-hander Paul Skenes' starts in the second half, but he does expect more low-volume outings and a fw start days being pushed back later in the week as the team looks to preserve him for the future. Hiles still believes that the 23-year-old phenom will finish around 200 innings, a number that only four pitchers surpassed in 2024. Skenes threw 160 1/3 innings between the majors and minors a year ago. While this news isn't great for Skenes' overall fantasy upside in the second half of the 2025 season, it also shouldn't be a reason for fantasy managers to panic at all. To close out the first half of the year, Skenes threw fewer than 80 pitches in three of his last four starts, so it might have already started happening. Regardless, he's still a must-start every time he toes the rubber.

Paul Skenes Punches Out 10 in No-Decision

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Paul Skenes turned in another stellar start on Sunday in a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Skenes did not factor into the decision, but he left after amassing a season-high 10 strikeouts and holding the Mariners to five hits across five scoreless innings. The two-time All-Star lowered his ERA to a National League-best 1.94 with 125 strikeouts, 30 walks, and an elite 0.92 WHIP in 116 innings. Although Skenes has allowed two earned runs or fewer in an incredible 16 of 19 starts, he's just 4-7 because of a lack of run support. The Pirates' offensive ineptitude cost him again Sunday.

Jacob Misiorowski Outduels Paul Skenes to Nab Third Win

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski stymied the Pittsburgh Pirates over five innings in Wednesday's 4-2 victory. He gave up two hits and issued two free passes while striking out eight in another excellent outing. The hard-throwing right-hander racked up 13 swinging strikes to register a 35% CSW and threw 15 pitches faster than opposing pitcher Paul Skenes' fastest pitch (100.2 MPH) -- topping out at an eye-popping 102.4 MPH. Few words describe just how good Misiorowski has been in his professional debut, boasting as many hits (three) as wins (3-0). He'll carry a sublime 1.13 ERA and 0.63 WHIP into a road outing with the New York Mets next week.

Paul Skenes Has Mixed Results on Thursday

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes had a decent start in Game 2 of their doubleheader on Friday, tossing six innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against the Detroit Tigers. Skenes struggled with control in this one, walking five and throwing only 61 of 105 pitches for strikes. Still, the 23-year-old phenom was able to put together a quality start and managed nine strikeouts in the process. If this is a "bad" start for Skenes, it's clear that he is among the best pitchers in the league. He now has a 4-6 record, 1.85 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 106 strikeouts in 102 IP. His next start is scheduled for next Wednesday in Milwaukee against the Brewers.

Paul Skenes Throws Five Shutout Innings

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes was once again sharp on the mound during Friday's start against the Chicago Cubs. Skenes saw his pitch count quickly rise on him, so he didn't have an extremely long out. He tossed five scoreless innings, allowing four hits, while walking two batters and striking out five in the no-decision. Skenes has been unbelievable as he's allowed one earned run or less in each of his last seven starts. He's obviously a must-start in all fantasy formats as he heads into a tough matchup against the Detroit Tigers next week.

Paul Skenes Looks Excellent in No-Decision

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes was once again fantastic on the mound, but didn't get much run support. Skenes had seemingly no issues as he threw 7 innings, allowing only two hits while striking out seven batters in a no-decision. The right-hander has now allowed one earned run or less in six straight starts. During that span, Skenes has earned one win, which is very sad for him. This is looking like another Jacob deGrom on the Mets situation where the offense just can't score runs for their ace pitcher. Fantasy managers can keep running Skenes out there every five days and expect an excellent performance.
