New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu is trying to become the first player in the modern era to win a batting title in both leagues -- he won the National League crown in 2016. Entering this weekend, he leads the American League and majors overall with a .337 average. LeMahieu is making the most hard contact (22 percent) among players with at least 500 total swings in 2019. Not only is he squaring balls up frequently, but he is also swinging more and being more aggressive. LeMahieu is hitting .330 against fastballs, .331 against breaking pitches and .383 against offspeed pitches. He's hitting line drives 30.5 percent of the time as well. He's having an MVP-caliber season and is a big reason the Yanks have held their own despite injuries to sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. Fantasy owners that snagged LeMahieu on the cheap this year have been ecstatic.
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (rest) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. The 31-year-old will get a routine day of rest in the series finale as Mike Ford will play first base and bat eighth against Orioles right-hander Dylan Bundy. LeMahieu should be owned in all fantasy formats and has made a strong case for himself as a candidate for the American League MVP award with totals of 19 home runs, 81 RBI, 84 runs scored, a .337 batting average and .920 OPS.
New York Yankee DJ LeMahieu is showing no signs of rust after missing four games with groin tightness, collecting two hits in his return on Friday night before going off in the first game of a doubleheader against the Red Sox on Saturday, hitting two home runs off of Boston ace Chris Sale. LeMahieu would finish with four RBI in the game and now has 17 home runs on the season with a 137 wRC+ in his 432 plate appearances for his new team. The 17 round-trippers is a new career-high, eclipsing last year's total of 15 and LeMahieu continues being one of the best second basemen in fantasy, with 71 RBI, and 75 runs scored on the year.
