Ryan Waldschmidt has Easier Path to Make Opening Day Roster?

Arizona Diamondbacks top outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt could have an easier path to crack the Opening Day roster following the injury to Corbin Carroll (hand). With the team's top outfielder on the shelf with a fractured hamate bone and in serious danger of missing the start of the season, Waldschmidt could emerge as a top replacement if he has a productive spring training. Entering camp, Waldschmidt was identified as a potential candidate to make the Opening Day roster, and now, with a starting outfielder injured, his path becomes much clearer. The Kentucky product joined the Diamondbacks in the 2024 MLB Draft and quickly progressed through the system last summer. Through 134 games (shared between High-A and Double-A), Waldschmidt held a .289/.419/.473 line with 18 home runs and 29 stolen bases. Even though he does not have experience at Triple-A, a strong showing in camp could be enough to earn a spot in the Opening Day lineup.

Ryan Waldschmidt Earns Invite to Spring Training

The Arizona Diamondbacks have invited top outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt to big league camp. Waldschmidt is considered the team's top-ranked prospect on MLB.com and the overall No. 66-ranked prospect in the sport. Waldschmidt joined the Diamondbacks in the 2024 Draft and is now knocking on the MLB door. Last summer, the Kentucky product began the season in High-A but reached Double-A by the second half. Through 68 games with High-A, Waldschmidt held a .268/.415/.447 slash line with 13 doubles and nine home runs. During his first taste of Double-A, the outfielder took a step further, holding a stellar .309/.423/.498 line with a .921 OPS. Given Arizona's current outfield, Waldschmidt is a name to closely monitor as he could be in the mix to jump Triple-A and begin the season in the major leagues.

Ryan Waldschmidt Could Break Camp with Arizona

Arizona Diamondbacks top outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt could break camp with the MLB roster. According to Baseball America, the Kentucky product appears to be entering camp with a legitimate chance to make the Opening Day roster as outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (knee) is expected to miss at least the first half of the season, recovering from a torn ACL. Additionally, the Diamondbacks also shipped depth outfielder Jake McCarthy to the Colorado Rockies, further opening a position for Waldschmidt. The 23-year-old has yet to even debut at Triple-A, but has seen his prospect stock soar. In 2025, Waldschmidt split the seasons at High-A and Double-A and held an overall .289/.419/.473 line with an .812 OPS. He showed an elite eye at the plate, posting a 96:106 K:BB. Managers in the deeper leagues should continue to closely monitor his status, as he could be worth a late-round flyer if he performs well in camp.

Ryan Waldschmidt Stays Hot, Smacks Two More Home Runs

Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt belted a pair of home runs in a 3-for-5 day at the plate on Sunday for Double-A Amarillo, tallying five RBI in the process. The D-backs' top-ranked prospect has been on fire lately, going 15-for-34 (.441) over his last eight games, and has looked plenty comfortable at Double-A since his promotion to that level back in late June. The 22-year-old is slashing .309/.423/.498 with nine home runs, 19 steals, and he has nearly as many walks (45) as he has strikeouts (53) in 66 games for the Sod Poodles. The 31st pick from the 2024 Draft looks like he's well on his way to spending his time at Triple-A in 2026, with a major league debut likely on the horizon as well. If somehow he's flown under the radar in dynasty leagues, the 6-foot-2 slugger should be rostered with a nice blend of power, contact ability, speed, and approach.

Ryan Waldschmidt Hits Seventh Double-A Home Run

Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt drew a walk and hit a two-run home run in a 1-for-4 day at the plate on Tuesday for Double-A Amarillo, scoring twice in the contest as well. The D-backs' second-ranked prospect has flourished since his promotion to Double-A, slashing .290/.413/.492 with seven home runs and 14 steals in 50 games at that level. He's been even hotter lately, going 26-for-59 (.441) over his last 16 games, with six of his seven Double-A home runs coming during that stretch. The 22-year-old has also nearly walked as much as he's struck out for the Sod Poodles, registering a 36:38 BB:K. At this rate, he could see some time at Triple-A before the season is over, and could be knocking on the door to the majors at some point next year. The 31st overall pick from last year's MLB Draft should be stashed away in dynasty leagues.

Ryan Waldschmidt Homers Twice on Saturday

Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt continued to impress at Double-A Amarillo on Saturday, going 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, three RBI, and two runs scored for the Sod Poodles. It was the third straight game with a home run and fourth straight multi-hit contest for the D-backs' second-ranked prospect, who is 16-for-30 (.533) over his last eight games. The 2024 first-rounder is hitting .279 at Double-A with a .401 OBP thanks to a strong 15.9 percent walk rate and has stolen 13 bases in just 41 games at that level, now slashing .272/.410/.460 with 15 home runs, 23 steals, and an 80:88 BB:K in 110 games this year between High-A and Double-A. He doesn't appear to be overmatched, with just a 19.2 percent strikeout rate at Double-A, so look for him to see time at Triple-A in 2026 and potentially push for a major league debut. With a well-rounded skill set, dynasty managers should consider stashing the 22-year-old if he's still available.

Ryan Waldschmidt Fills the Stat Sheet on Saturday

Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base on Saturday for Double-A Amarillo. The D-backs' third-ranked prospect has performed admirably in his first turn at that level, hitting .286 with an OBP of .388 thanks to a 14.3 percent walk rate (which mirrors his strikeout rate), chipping in five extra-base hits (one home run) and a stolen base through 11 games. The 2024 first-rounder has shown good power and an ability to draw walks at an above average rate throughout his brief minor league career, while adding some speed on the basepaths. With continued success he could be knocking on the door to the majors sometime next year.

Ryan Waldschmidt Headed to Double-A Amarillo

Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt is getting promoted to Double-A Amarillo after a successful stint at High-A Hillsboro to begin the year. The 2024 first-rounder hit .268 with 13 doubles, a triple, and nine home runs in 68 games, while his 43 RBI and 59 runs scored were top five in the Northwest League. The 22-year-old also boasted a .415 OBP thanks to a 16.9 percent walk rate (compared to a 17.6 percent strikeout rate), and tallied 10 steals along the way. The D-backs' third-ranked prospect has solid all-around tools and could be knocking on the door to the majors later next year.

Ryan Waldschmidt Homers in Third Straight Game

Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt went 2-for-4 on Tuesday for High-A Hillsboro, walking once and homering in his third consecutive contest. The home run was a solo shot, and the 22-year-old also scored twice. The performance pushed his season-long slash line to .277/.434/.477 with nine home runs and seven steals, while his 51 runs scored lead the Northwest League and his 39 RBI are tied for the most in that category. The 31st-overall draft pick in the 2024 draft is also walking more than he's striking out, posting a 47:43 BB:K. It doesn't appear that he's overmatched at this level, so a few more weeks of hitting like this and he should be on his way to Double-A Amarillo.

Ryan Waldschmidt Homers in Back-to-Back Games

Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Ryan Waldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, and he got on base once via a hit by pitch. It was the second consecutive game with a home run for Arizona's third-ranked prospect and eighth home run of the season, now riding a six-game hit streak. The 22-year-old is slashing .272/.430/.461 in 56 games at High-A Hillsboro and is walking (46) more than he is striking out (43). The 31st pick in the 2024 MLB Draft has also stolen seven bases for the Hops, and with his all-around skillset, the 6-foot-2 should earn some at-bats at Double-A by season's end.
