Shane Baz Fans 11 Against Athletics

Tampa Bay Rays starter Shane Baz picked up a quality start in an impressive outing on Tuesday night against the A's. The young righty threw seven innings for a no-decision, allowing seven hits (two homers) and three earned runs while striking out 11 and walking just one. Baz is coming off a red-hot June where he pitched to a 3.26 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 31 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings, recording wins in four out of his five starts. His season-long numbers are not quite as strong, as he's posted a 4.33 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 97 2/3 innings (17 starts). However, Baz has managed to stay healthy this year, a feat that has eluded him in previous years. He's a former top prospect with a world of talent and appears to be rounding into form as he heads into the second half of the season.

Shane Baz Tosses Eight Shutout Innings, Strikes Out Nine on Thursday

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Shane Baz was at the top of his game in Thursday's 4-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Field, tossing a season-high eight scoreless innings while giving up only three hits, walking one and striking out nine to lower his season ERA to 4.37 and pick up his eighth win of the year. Although this was his third straight win, the 26-year-old wasn't sharp last time out against the Detroit Tigers, allowing five earned runs while walking four in 5 1/3 frames. The former 12th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2017 has had trouble limiting runs this year and has a below-average 21.9% strikeout rate and sub-optimal 9.7% walk rate, but he's been fortunate to rack up the wins for fantasy managers. The bright side is that there's room for improvement in the second half in his first full season removed from Tommy John surgery.

Shane Baz Posts Quality Start on Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Shane Baz turned in a quality start while earning the win in a 9-0 victory over the New York Mets on Sunday. Baz tossed 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball while scattering three hits and striking out six. He was a little wild as he walked four batters while throwing just 60 of 106 pitches for strikes, but he was able to prevent those free passes from coming around to hurt him in the shutout. Baz now has a 6-3 record, 4.54 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts over 77 1/3 innings of work on the season. He will look to build upon that strong start in his next outing, which will be against the Detroit Tigers on Friday.

Shane Baz Struggles Against the Phillies On Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz was knocked around by the Phillies in Tampa on Wednesday, allowing six earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in just 3 1/3 innings. Baz gave up a solo home run to Trea Turner in the third inning, but had only given up that one run before things unraveled on him in the fourth inning. He gave up three singles and a walk before Bryce Harper smashed a two-run double that chased Baz from the game with a 6-0 deficit. Baz took the loss and fell to 3-2 on the year with a 4.93 ERA and 3.95 FIP. He has given up at least five earned runs in three of his last four games, especially struggling at home in Tampa. He will get a chance to bounce back in his next outing, which is scheduled to be in a divisional matchup in Toronto on Tuesday.

Shane Baz Tosses Seven Shutout Innings In Win

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz silenced San Diego's bats on Friday, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six in a tight 1-0 win over the Padres. Baz has had just one hiccup so far this season, which came in his last start against the Yankees, where he allowed five earned runs, but the other four appearances have been quality starts. The righty is now 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA (3.19 xFIP), 0.99 WHIP, and a phenomenal 23.7 percent K-BB% over 29 1/3 IP. The former first-round draft pick's next start will come at home against Kansas City next week, a team that doesn't strike out much but has produced the second-fewest runs per game so far this season.

Shane Baz Fans 11 In Dominant Win Monday

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz brought swing-and-miss stuff once again in Monday's 16-1 drubbing of the Red Sox. Baz pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits (including a solo home run) and no walks with 11 strikeouts. The 25-year-old now has double-digit strikeouts in two of his three starts, culminating in a 2-0 record with a 1.42 ERA, a 12.79 K/9 rate, and a 1.89 BB/9 rate in 19 IP. His curveball has been one of his best swing-and-miss pitches, and he has thrown it nearly 15% more often in 2025 compared to 2024. He will be put to the test in his next scheduled start against the Yankees, but he has been so hot that fantasy managers may find the potential reward worth the risk of starting him.

Shane Baz Strikes Out 10

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz was dominant on Tuesday, pitching seven shutout innings while striking out 10 in a 7-0 win over the Pirates. Baz racked up strikeouts against the team that drafted him, throwing his curveball 35 percent of the time with a 50% whiff rate on the pitch. He posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 69 strikeouts in 79 innings in 2024, but 2025 marks the first year that he will have the opportunity to pitch a full season. A huge breakout could be coming for the former top prospect, and he should be universally rostered in fantasy.

Shane Baz Not Worried About Spring Training Results

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Shane Baz hasn't put up great numbers in his two Grapefruit League starts, but despite another rough showing on Thursday against the Washington Nationals in which he gave up four earned runs on five hits while walking none and striking out two in 4 1/3 innings, he was encouraged with his outing. "That was the best four-run game I've ever pitched," Baz told manager Kevin Cash. The 25-year-old was able to pitch into the fifth inning and showed improved control and command of his pitches. Overall, Baz has given up 10 earned runs with four walks and five strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings. It hasn't been pretty, but he continues to improve his control and command after missing all of 2023 due to Tommy John surgery. The arrow is pointing up, but the fact that Baz hasn't thrown more than 108 2/3 frames in a single season keeps his upside low entering 2025 as a back-end fantasy starter, at best.

Shane Baz Strikes Out Seven In Win

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz tossed his third consecutive quality start in Saturday's 7-2 victory over the Red Sox, allowing two earned runs on just three hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings of work, picking up his fourth win. Baz has looked good since coming off of the IL in July after his recovery from Tommy John surgery, other than perhaps some command issues which he's cleaned up as of late, with just four walks compared to 23 strikeouts over his last four starts. The righty looked like he had a promising future before requiring Tommy John, and that still looks to be the case after he posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 14 starts. While the 13.2% K-BB% overall doesn't jump off the page, the last four starts were more in line with what managers should expect from the former first-rounder next season, as he pitched to a 20.9% K-BB% over that timeframe.

Shane Baz Looks Strong On Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz continued his stellar second half of the season on Sunday. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits over six innings of work during the victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Baz notched six strikeouts while only walking one batter during this outing. He holds a 2.71 ERA since the All-Star break and looks to end the regular season on a strong note against the Boston Red Sox next week.
