Tylor Megill Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Monday and will miss the entire 2026 season as a result. The 30-year-old landed on the 15-day IL on June 17 with an elbow sprain, which proved to be a season-ending injury. Megill attempted to work his way back in the minors, but the Mets shut him down after he felt discomfort in his forearm in a Sept. 7 rehab start. The 6-foot-7, 230-pounder made 14 starts in the majors this season and went 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and 89:33 K:BB in 68 1/3 innings.

Tylor Megill Likely to Require Tommy John Surgery

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) is going for additional opinions on his injured elbow, but he's likely to require Tommy John surgery, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. That would be a devastating blow for Megill, who will miss the entire 2026 season if he undergoes the procedure. A sprained elbow forced the 30-year-old to the injured list on June 17. While he had been working toward a return, the Mets shut him from throwing after he experienced forearm tightness in a rehab outing on Sept. 7. Megill made 14 starts this year and went 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, 89 strikeouts, and 33 walks over 68 1/3 innings.

Tylor Megill Set For MRI After Renewed Elbow Tightness

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill (elbow) experienced right elbow tightness while throwing breaking balls during a rehab outing on Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse, per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. The 30-year-old was placed on the injured list on June 17 with the same injury, and he will now go back to New York to receive an MRI. This is unfortunate news for the Mets and fantasy managers, as it will leave little time for him to return, even if his results are clean. Megill went 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and a 29.2% strikeout rate in 14 starts and 68 1/3 innings pitched before getting injured.

Tylor Megill Throws 79 Pitches in Triple-A Rehab Start

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) made his fourth rehab start on Tuesday and struggled in a 4-3 loss for Triple-A Syracuse. Megill lasted four innings and surrendered three earned runs on six hits and two walks. On the positive side, Megill struck out five hitters and was able to throw 79 pitches. It's unclear if Megill, who's building back up as a starter, will need another rehab outing before potentially rejoining the Mets' rotation. The 30-year-old has missed almost three months of action after going on the 60-day injured list with a sprained elbow on June 17. Before landing on the shelf, Megill went 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and 89:33 K:BB across 14 starts and 68 1/3 innings.

Tylor Megill To Make Triple-A Rehab Start Thursday

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill (elbow) will make the fourth start of his rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, per the New York Post's Mike Puma. Megill will target a pitch count of 80. The 30-year-old has been on the injured list since the middle of June with a right elbow sprain. He has made two rehab starts with Double-A Binghamton and one with Triple-A Syracuse and has yet to allow a run with a 17:2 strikeout-to-walk rate in 10 innings pitched. Megill was putting together a useful fantasy season before his injury, going 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and a 29.2% strikeout rate in 14 starts and 68 1/3 IP. It remains to be seen if he can return with enough time to help fantasy managers, but they should keep an eye out for more updates later in the week.

Jonah Tong, Tylor Megill Candidates to Start on Friday

New York Mets right-handers Jonah Tong and Tylor Megill (elbow) are candidates to start Friday against the Miami Marlins, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic. Although southpaw David Peterson is penciled in for that game, the Mets could go with Tong or Megill as a way to give Peterson and righty Kodai Senga (Saturday's scheduled starter) extra rest. Tong has yet to debut in the majors, but the 22-year-old ranks as MLB Pipeline's 44th-best prospect and has made a strong case for a promotion in the minors. Tong has racked up 22 starts (20 in Double-A, two in Triple-A) and logged a sparkling 1.43 ERA, a .92 WHIP, and a minor league-leading 179 strikeouts against 47 walks in 113 2/3 innings this season. Megill, meanwhile, is nearing a return after missing two-plus months with an elbow sprain. Before he landed on the injured list on June 15, the 30-year-old made 14 starts and went 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and 89:33 K:BB over 68 1/3 frames.

Tylor Megill Punches Out Nine in Rehab Start

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) looked good in his minor-league rehab start with Double-A Binghamton on Sunday, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out nine. Megill threw 39 of his 55 pitches for strikes in what was his second rehab outing. The 30-year-old is returning from a right-elbow strain that has kept him out since June 14, so he will likely require at least one more start in the minors before the Mets activate him from the injured list. It's unclear what Megill's role will be in New York when he returns, and it will likely depend on how well rookie Nolan McLean is pitching in the starting rotation. Megill made 14 starts before his elbow injury this year, going 5-5 with a career-best 3.95 ERA (3.41 FIP) and 1.36 WHIP with 89 strikeouts and 33 walks in 68 1/3 innings pitched.

Tylor Megill Begins Rehab Assignment

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) began a rehab assignment for Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday. Megill struck out four batters over 1 2/3 scoreless innings while getting his pitch count up to 41 pitches. He did give up three hits and a walk. Megill is rehabbing back from a right elbow sprain and should need a few more rehab starts before being activated from the IL. Megill had a solid season when he went down mid-June with his injury. Over 14 starts, he racked up 89 strikeouts over 68 innings with a respectable 3.95 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.

Tylor Megill Nearing Rehab Assignment

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) came out of a live batting practice session on Thursday unscathed and could begin a rehab assignment soon, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Megill has been down since mid-June with a sprained right elbow, which interrupted a solid first half of the season for the 30-year-old. Despite a high walk rate (4.35 per nine), Megill recorded a respectable 3.95 ERA with an eye-opening 89 strikeouts over 68 1/3 innings in his first 14 starts of the season. A return doesn't seem imminent, but if the struggling Frankie Montas doesn't turn things around, a healthy Megill could replace him in the Mets' rotation.

Tylor Megill Will Throw Batting Practice Thursday

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill (elbow) has been on the injured list since mid-June with an elbow sprain, but he is working his way back to possibly return for the stretch run. An MRI at the time of the injury showed no structural damage but a significant amount of inflammation that has forced him to miss significant time. The 30-year-old righty was 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA, 3.40 FIP, and 89 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings before the injury, and he was tracking towards the best season of his career before being sidelined. The Mets have a full rotation at the moment, but Megill could be a very valuable arm down the stretch, especially given his high strikeout rate this season. Keep an eye on his recovery and see if the Mets plan to use him in the bullpen or the rotation when he returns.
