Tylor Megill Optioned, Brooks Raley Moved To 60-Day Injured List

The New York Mets optioned right-hander Tylor Megill and left-hander Danny Young to Triple-A Syracuse after Saturday's loss to the Houston Astros and selected the contracts of left-hander Tyler Jay and right-hander Matt Festa from Syracuse in corresponding moves. The team also transferred left-hander Brooks Raley (elbow) to the 60-day injured list and designated outfielder Duke Ellis for assignment. Megill surrendered six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in the loss to Houston on Saturday and will now head to the minors after posting an ERA over 7.00 in five starts in June. With Megill out of the rotation, rookie left-hander Christian Scott is expected to make his return to the big leagues. Raley will miss the rest of this year and the start of 2025 after having an internal-brace procedure on his left elbow.

Tylor Megill Shipped Down To Triple-A Syracuse

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. The Mets are likely going with Christian Scott or Jose Butto when Megill's next scheduled start arrives. Megill is (2-4) with a 4.85 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings with 43 strikeouts and 16. He had allowed at least three runs in three of his last four starts. The Mets have the luxury to backfill his spot with a reliever to help a thin bullpen. Fantasy managers will have to wait to see when the Mets announce whether Butto or Scott will start Tuesday against the Washington Nationals.

Tylor Megill Dominates Dodgers In Game 1

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill took a tough-luck no-decision in Tuesday's loss to the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers during the matinee of a twin bill, throwing seven scoreless innings on three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Megill impressively held down a vaunted Dodgers lineup in Game 1 on Tuesday, delivering one of the best performances of his career. The big 28-year-old right-hander has been limited to three starts for the Mets this year, but he's been very effective when healthy with a 1.69 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 20:6 K:BB over 16 innings. Sunday's series finale at home against the disappointing Arizona Diamondbacks marks Megill's next projected start, and he'll carry a decent level of streaming appeal for fantasy purposes in that one to close the week.

Tylor Megill Officially Activated From The 15-Day Injured List

The New York Mets officially activated pitcher Tylor Megill (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list. Megill went on the IL in late March with a shoulder strain after tossing four innings of one-run ball against the Milwaukee Brewers on March 31. Monday will mark his second start of the season, and his first since that March 31 outing. In his first start back, expect the right-hander to be on somewhat of a pitch count. However, he could be a nice streaming option against the Cleveland Guardians. He threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in his last rehab start in Triple-A. To activate him, the Mets optioned pitcher Grant Hartwig to Triple-A Syracuse.

Tylor Megill Could Be On Verge Of A Return

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday in yet another strong minor-league rehab outing. In his four rehab starts, Megill has given up just one run on nine hits over 16 innings and has struck out 23 with just one walk. The Mets will now decide whether to reinstate him from the 15-day injured list this week. Even though the 28-year-old has looked good on his rehab assignment, manager Carlos Mendoza has been hesitant to say that Megill will be handed a rotation spot upon his return. Megill has been on the IL since April 1 with a shoulder strain but has been building up as a starter as he rehabs. A multi-inning relief role would put Megill off the fantasy radar in deep leagues. He was hit with the loss in his lone start this year in 2024 on March 31 against the Brewers, when he allowed an earned run in four innings of work.

Tylor Megill Tosses Four Scoreless Innings In Rehab Start

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw four scoreless innings in a minor-league rehab start on Tuesday for Triple-A Syracuse with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Manager Carlos Mendoza said on Monday that it was possible this would be Megill's last rehab start. If so, the Mets will have to decide if Megill jumps back into the starting rotation or stays at Syracuse. If the Mets don't move to a six-man rotation when the 28-year-old is activated from the injured list, rookie Christian Scott could be the odd man out and sent back to Syracuse if the Mets are intent on returning Megill to their rotation. In his one start before his injury, Megill gave up just one earned run in four innings against the Brewers on March 31 while walking three and striking out four. He'll be an option in NL-only leagues if he rejoins New York's rotation.

Tylor Megill To Begin Rehab Assignment Saturday

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) is scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Saturday and throw two innings for High-A Brooklyn. Megill is getting close to returning to the big leagues while recovering from a right-shoulder strain that he suffered during his season debut on March 31 against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 28-year-old will probably need more than one rehab start before the Mets activate him from the injured list. When fully healthy, Megill should have a spot in New York's starting rotation, making him worth a deep-league pickup for pitching depth. He ended up making 25 starts for the Mets in 2023 and held a 4.70 ERA (4.96 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP with a career-high 105 strikeouts and 58 walks in 126 1/3 innings pitched.

Tylor Megill Throws First Bullpen Friday

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw his first bullpen assignment on Friday. Megill is ramping up his throwing activity as he recuperates from a strained right shoulder that's held him to one start so far in the 2024 regular season, which came in New York's opening series of the campaign. The big 28-year-old right-hander is probably not going to be activated from the injured list before the end of April at this rate, but Megill could be an option for the Mets sometime in early May. With righty Jose Butto beginning to emerge in the rotation, Megill could be facing a long-relief role upon his eventual return. Butto has yielded a lone run while fanning 15 hitters and walking four covering 12 innings (two starts) in Queens this year, but he's a dangerous fantasy bet in Saturday's scheduled start against a high-powered Los Angeles Dodgers offense at Chavez Ravine.

Mets Place Tylor Megill On 15-Day Injured List

The New York Mets have placed right-hander Tylor Megill on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain. The 28-year-old won a spot in the Mets' rotation to begin the season but was removed from his first start of the season on Sunday after four innings due to what was initially described as tenderness in his right shoulder. An MRI revealed the strain. Megill made 25 starts with the Mets last season but posted a 4.70 ERA alongside a weak 5.6% K-BB% in his 126 1/3 innings of work. A strong spring that saw him toss a 3.92 ERA in six outings with 23 strikeouts against six walks in 20 2/3 innings earned him a shot in the rotation to begin the season but he will hit the shelf for at least the next couple of weeks. UPDATE: Megill said he won't throw for the next five days, but the plan is for him to begin ramping up again after that. He sees it as the type of shoulder strain that will knock him out for a couple of starts rather than the type that could cost him significant time.

Tylor Megill Wins Rotation Spot

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill has won an Opening Day starting rotation spot due to Kodai Senga's (shoulder) injury, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. As a result, Jose Butto will open the year in the minor leagues, although he'll likely be the next starter up, potentially as early as the team's 13-day stretch of no off days in April. The 28-year-old Megill earned his rotation spot in New York by posting a 3.45 ERA and 1.02 WHIP while walking four and striking out 16 in 15 2/3 Grapefruit League innings this spring. The former eighth-round pick by the Mets in 2018 out of Arizona went 9-8 last year with a 4.70 ERA and 1.57 WHIP while walking 58 and striking out a career-high 105 hitters in 126 1/3 innings over 25 starts. Megill now becomes a rotation option for fantasy managers in NL-only leagues.
