Tylor Megill Looks Excellent On Monday

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill was nearly untouchable versus the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Megill threw 5 1/3 shutout innings, allowing only one hit while striking out a career-high 10 batters in the win. This was Megill's first double-digit strikeout performance since 2021. It's not easy shutting down this Phillies lineup, so Megill deserves a ton of credit. Megill has been extremely effective early in the season, allowing only three total earned runs. He'll take a 1.09 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 30/11 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Washington Nationals. Megill hasn't pitched deep into games, but is well worth a look for fantasy managers seeking pitching help.

Tylor Megill Looks Sharp In Home Opener

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill was incredibly successful on the mound during Friday's outing against the Toronto Blue Jays. The right-hander tossed 5.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits, three walks, and struck out four in the win. It's a shame he wasn't able to go deeper into the game, but the Mets bullpen was almost just as sharp as Megill was on Friday. Megill has allowed one run on five hits over 10.1 innings during his first second starts of the season. He'll head into a favorable matchup against the Miami Marlins during his next start.

Tylor Megill On Tap For Mets' Second Game

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill will begin the season in the team's rotation. Per DiComo, he'll get the nod for the Mets' second game with the Houston Astros. Megill showed flashes of brilliance in 2024 and was particularly effective over seven starts (39 innings) post-All-Star break, compiling a 3.00 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 42 punch-outs. The 29-year-old will get a chance to show his stuff again with fellow pitchers Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat) battling injuries. Megill has tweaked his arsenal a bit and noted that he plans to rely on his fastball more heavily, which should be a boost for him. For now, he's a late-round dart throw in fantasy drafts with some sleeper appeal, depending on how long he sticks in the rotation.

Tylor Megill Works On Improving His Curveball

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill added a two-seam sinker last year to keep hitters from consistently looking away for his four-seam fastball and slider. It was a big reason why he was nails down the stretch last year for the Mets, when he posted a 2.32 ERA in six late-season starts (all wins). This offseason, Megill worked to improve his curveball to make it tighter and more of a weapon in two-strike counts. Eventually, it could replace his sweeper, according to The Athletic's Will Sammon and Tim Britton. The 29-year-old used his cutter 14.3% of the time last year, but he doesn't plan to throw it as much in 2025. "Use my strengths. My fastball is my strength," Megill said. "The fastball statistically, I should have used it a lot more." Because he has minor-league options left, Megill might be fighting an uphill battle for a rotation spot out of spring training.

Jose Butto To Work As Reliever, Tylor Megill Stretching Out As Starter

New York Mets right-hander Jose Butto will be a reliever this year, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Meanwhile, Mendoza said that right-hander Tylor Megill will be stretched out as a starter during spring training. Butto went 7-3 with a nice .255 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, his first three career saves and a 79:38 K:BB in 74 innings over 30 appearances (seven starts) for the Mets in 2024. The 26-year-old was primarily a starter in the minors, but he had a 2.00 ERA down the stretch as a reliever last year and will stick in a late-inning setup role for the Mets. A high walk rate will make it hard for Butto to improve on his numbers last year. Megill, 29, will be in the mix for a rotation spot early in 2025 with the Mets planning to use a six-man rotation. He'll be competing with the likes of David Peterson, Griffin Canning and Paul Blackburn.

Tylor Megill Likely To Start Game 1

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill appears to be the leading candidate to start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Nothing has been set in stone, but Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, David Peterson, and Jose Quintana all pitching in the Wild Card round, Megill is the only Met on the active roster that will be fully rested. Kodai Senga could technically return as well, but he would likely pitch out of the bullpen. Megill would have a tough matchup against Zack Wheeler if he does get the nod, but he pitched well against the Phillies in a September start and has the stuff to do it again.

Tylor Megill Excluded From Wild-Card Roster

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill was excluded from the roster for the wild-card series this week against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field. The Mets added right-hander Max Kranick instead. Megill tossed 100 pitches over his 5 2/3 innings during Game 1 of the doubleheader against the division-rival Atlanta Braves on Monday in which the Mets punched their ticket to the 2024 postseason, so he was not going to be available to pitch in the three-game wild-card series this week anyway. However, if the Mets upset the Brew Crew and advance to the NLDS to face the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, the 29-year-old Megill will most likely be added to the roster as a starter. In his 16 outings (15 starts) in his fourth year in New York, Megill went 4-5 with a career-best 4.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 91:32 K:BB in 78 innings. Kranick will serve in a long-relief role.

Tylor Megill Named Monday's Starter

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill has been named the starter for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets will clinch a postseason berth if they win the first game, so they'd likely go bullpen game if that happens for the night cap. If not, Luis Severino seems like the favorite to take the ball for the second game. Megill holds a 3.98 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 83/30 K/BB ratio across 15 games (14 starts) this season. It seems like the Mets are in good hands heading into their most important day of the season.

Tylor Megill Tosses Quality Start, Fans Nine In No-Decision

New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill turned in a solid outing in Monday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. Megill, who got the nod after Paul Blackburn (hand, back) faced a delay in his return from the injured list due to a lower back issue, pitched six scoreless innings. The 29-year-old allowed just one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts. Megill was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse at the end of August and has compiled a stellar 2.34 ERA in three starts. However, the Mets have stated that they are giving Blackburn a 48-hour window to assess his response to back treatment and that he will slot back into the starting rotation if able, with Megill moving to the bullpen. Even if Blackburn is unable to return, the next time around the rotation would be a tough matchup at the Phillies, so fantasy managers may want to avoid whoever makes the start.

Paul Blackburn Won't Start Monday, Tylor Megill To Get The Nod

New York Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn (hand), who was originally scheduled to come off the 15-day injured list to make the start on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre, will no longer start, according to the team. Instead, right-hander Tylor Megill is the team's new probable starter. It's unclear if Blackburn has had a setback with his hand, but if he hasn't, the 30-year-old veteran could just be pushed back a day as a precaution. Blackburn suffered a right-hand bruise several weeks ago on a comebacker but is close to rejoining the Mets' starting rotation. Since coming over from the Oakland Athletics in a trade, Blackburn has been an unreliable fantasy streamer, going 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 21 strikeouts and seven walks in 24 1/3 innings over his five starts. He'll be a shaky deep-league streamer if he rejoins the rotation this week in Toronto.
