Tylor Megill Likely To Start Game 1

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill appears to be the leading candidate to start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Nothing has been set in stone, but Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, David Peterson, and Jose Quintana all pitching in the Wild Card round, Megill is the only Met on the active roster that will be fully rested. Kodai Senga could technically return as well, but he would likely pitch out of the bullpen. Megill would have a tough matchup against Zack Wheeler if he does get the nod, but he pitched well against the Phillies in a September start and has the stuff to do it again.

Tylor Megill Excluded From Wild-Card Roster

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill was excluded from the roster for the wild-card series this week against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field. The Mets added right-hander Max Kranick instead. Megill tossed 100 pitches over his 5 2/3 innings during Game 1 of the doubleheader against the division-rival Atlanta Braves on Monday in which the Mets punched their ticket to the 2024 postseason, so he was not going to be available to pitch in the three-game wild-card series this week anyway. However, if the Mets upset the Brew Crew and advance to the NLDS to face the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, the 29-year-old Megill will most likely be added to the roster as a starter. In his 16 outings (15 starts) in his fourth year in New York, Megill went 4-5 with a career-best 4.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 91:32 K:BB in 78 innings. Kranick will serve in a long-relief role.

Tylor Megill Named Monday's Starter

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill has been named the starter for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets will clinch a postseason berth if they win the first game, so they'd likely go bullpen game if that happens for the night cap. If not, Luis Severino seems like the favorite to take the ball for the second game. Megill holds a 3.98 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 83/30 K/BB ratio across 15 games (14 starts) this season. It seems like the Mets are in good hands heading into their most important day of the season.

Tylor Megill Tosses Quality Start, Fans Nine In No-Decision

New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill turned in a solid outing in Monday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. Megill, who got the nod after Paul Blackburn (hand, back) faced a delay in his return from the injured list due to a lower back issue, pitched six scoreless innings. The 29-year-old allowed just one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts. Megill was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse at the end of August and has compiled a stellar 2.34 ERA in three starts. However, the Mets have stated that they are giving Blackburn a 48-hour window to assess his response to back treatment and that he will slot back into the starting rotation if able, with Megill moving to the bullpen. Even if Blackburn is unable to return, the next time around the rotation would be a tough matchup at the Phillies, so fantasy managers may want to avoid whoever makes the start.

Paul Blackburn Won't Start Monday, Tylor Megill To Get The Nod

New York Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn (hand), who was originally scheduled to come off the 15-day injured list to make the start on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre, will no longer start, according to the team. Instead, right-hander Tylor Megill is the team's new probable starter. It's unclear if Blackburn has had a setback with his hand, but if he hasn't, the 30-year-old veteran could just be pushed back a day as a precaution. Blackburn suffered a right-hand bruise several weeks ago on a comebacker but is close to rejoining the Mets' starting rotation. Since coming over from the Oakland Athletics in a trade, Blackburn has been an unreliable fantasy streamer, going 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 21 strikeouts and seven walks in 24 1/3 innings over his five starts. He'll be a shaky deep-league streamer if he rejoins the rotation this week in Toronto.

Tylor Megill Being Called Up To Start On Friday

The New York Mets are calling up right-hander Tylor Megill from Triple-A Syracuse to make the start on Friday in the series opener versus the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. Megill has the opportunity to stick around in New York's starting rotation for a couple turns with Paul Blackburn (hand) currently on the 15-day injured list. The 29-year-old Megill has an ERA over 5.00 in 10 appearances (nine starts) for the Mets this year, but he's also sporting a career-best 26.3% strikeout rate in 47 innings pitched. On the flip side, he has a walk rate over 10% and hasn't started a game in the big leagues since July 27, when he gave up four earned runs (three homers) in six innings in a loss to the Braves. However, with an excellent matchup on tap against the Pale Hose, we wouldn't blame fantasy managers in deeper leagues for taking a chance on Megill as a streaming option on Friday.

Tylor Megill The Favorite To Join Mets Rotation

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill is the strong front-runner to join the team's starting rotation in Paul Blackburn's (hand, wrist) spot, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Megill's first turn in the rotation will come on Thursday on the road against the hosting Arizona Diamondback, which won't be ideal for deep-league streaming purposes. The 29-year-old has not pitched for the Mets since July 31 and hasn't started a game since July 27 against the Atlanta Braves. Megill hasn't been very effective for the Mets in his 10 big-league appearances (nine starts) this year, going 2-5 with a 5.17 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 55:22 K:BB in 47 innings pitched. He has been better in his time with Triple-A Syracuse, but fantasy managers should steer clear of him as a streaming option later this week against one of the hottest teams in baseball.

Tylor Megill Optioned, Brooks Raley Moved To 60-Day Injured List

The New York Mets optioned right-hander Tylor Megill and left-hander Danny Young to Triple-A Syracuse after Saturday's loss to the Houston Astros and selected the contracts of left-hander Tyler Jay and right-hander Matt Festa from Syracuse in corresponding moves. The team also transferred left-hander Brooks Raley (elbow) to the 60-day injured list and designated outfielder Duke Ellis for assignment. Megill surrendered six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in the loss to Houston on Saturday and will now head to the minors after posting an ERA over 7.00 in five starts in June. With Megill out of the rotation, rookie left-hander Christian Scott is expected to make his return to the big leagues. Raley will miss the rest of this year and the start of 2025 after having an internal-brace procedure on his left elbow.

Tylor Megill Shipped Down To Triple-A Syracuse

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. The Mets are likely going with Christian Scott or Jose Butto when Megill's next scheduled start arrives. Megill is (2-4) with a 4.85 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings with 43 strikeouts and 16. He had allowed at least three runs in three of his last four starts. The Mets have the luxury to backfill his spot with a reliever to help a thin bullpen. Fantasy managers will have to wait to see when the Mets announce whether Butto or Scott will start Tuesday against the Washington Nationals.

Tylor Megill Dominates Dodgers In Game 1

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill took a tough-luck no-decision in Tuesday's loss to the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers during the matinee of a twin bill, throwing seven scoreless innings on three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Megill impressively held down a vaunted Dodgers lineup in Game 1 on Tuesday, delivering one of the best performances of his career. The big 28-year-old right-hander has been limited to three starts for the Mets this year, but he's been very effective when healthy with a 1.69 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 20:6 K:BB over 16 innings. Sunday's series finale at home against the disappointing Arizona Diamondbacks marks Megill's next projected start, and he'll carry a decent level of streaming appeal for fantasy purposes in that one to close the week.
