Robert Griffin III News
Free-agent quarterback Robert Griffin III has quickly embraced his new role as a broadcaster after playing eight seasons in the NFL, but he hasn't shut the door on a potential return to football. "I am ready to go right now. I train every day. I throw and work out. I know what it takes to get my body ready and I am doing those things. Yes, it is a little bit tougher when you are flying around everywhere doing stuff for TV, but when you really want something, you make it work. So, if I get that call this year, next year, or five years from now I will be ready to play," Griffin said. The 32-year-old last played in the NFL in 2020 with the Baltimore Ravens, and it's probably a long shot that he'll return to an NFL roster since his commentating gig is going so well.
The Baltimore Ravens waived quarterback Robert Griffin III, defensive back Davontae Harris, wide receiver De'Anthony Harris and defensive back Tramon Williams on Monday. Griffin played in four games in his third season with the Ravens and made a start in place of Lamar Jackson after he contracted COVID-19 in the Week 12 loss to the Steelers. RG3 went just 7-for-12 for 33 yards and an interception in that start, also running the ball seven times for an additional 20 yards. The No. 2 overall pick might've played in his last NFL game, but he could also return to the Ravens if he goes unclaimed on waiver. The 30-year-old started just two games in three years for Baltimore and declined after he was named a Pro Bowler in his rookie season with Washington.
The Baltimore Ravens activated rookie running back J.K. Dobbins, linebacker Pernell McPhee and centers Patrick Mekari and Matt Skura from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday while placing quarterback Robert Griffin III (hamstring) on Injured Reserve in a corresponding move. Cornerback Anthony Averett and wide receiver Chris Moore were also activated from IR. Dobbins missed Week 12 but should return as the lead back in Week 13 against the Cowboys on Tuesday and will be an upside RB2 for fantasy managers hoping to get into the fantasy playoffs. Dallas is also allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to RBs. Griffin was forgettable on Wednesday against Pittsburgh and will now miss at least the next three games. If Lamar Jackson doesn't get cleared from the COVID-19 protocols this weekend, Trace McSorley would start under center against the Cowboys.
