New England Patriots running back James White put together the complete show Thursday night against the Eagles. White ran four times for 31 yards along with six receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown in the first half. The running back is looking for an increased role this year, however, he has a crowded backfield to work around. White will split most of his time with Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel, but we could see Jeremy Hill and Mike Gillislee take a big chunk out of his playing time as well. White should see plenty of touches during the last few weeks of the preseason, even if Burkhead is back, but a healthy New England backfield will limit White's upside during the regular season.

New England Patriots running backs Rex Burkhead and James White have taken the majority of the first-team repetitions in offseason workouts. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see rookie Sony Michel, the 31st overall pick in the draft, rise to the top of this group by the time the season starts. Jeremy Hill and Mike Gillislee may be left off the final roster. Michel has the most upside, but in true Bill Belichick fashion, we'll probably see a mix of all three backs leading the backfield at some point on a weekly basis. New England's backfield, as always, will be extremely hard to predict on a week-to-week basis.

New England Patriots running back James White is only one year removed from 139 total yards and 14 receptions in the Patriots Super Bowl comeback last season against the Falcons. This season, White has returned to his complementary role, receiving only 43 carries all season for 171 yards. The veteran running back presents a change of pace for a Patriots offense that will face an Eagles defensive front that allowed the second fewest fantasy points to opposing backs. White should not be expected to play the hero again in this year's Super Bowl, but don't count him out to make one big play during Sunday's final matchup.
