Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has been downplaying wide receiver Julio Jones' absence at minicamp this week and expects him to show up when he holds informal workouts next month. Ryan plans to hold unscheduled practices with teammates in South Florida before training camp. Jones has been away from the team while seeking a new contract. He has three years and $35 million remaining. Don't read too much into Jones' absence. He should remain a WR1 and will come off the board in the early rounds. Jones should be able to improve in the touchdown department in Year 2 under offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan agreed to a five-year contract extension on Thursday that will make him the first $30 million per-year quarterback in NFL history, according to league and team sources. He'll receive $100 million guaranteed. Ryan is pretty consistent with seven straight 4,000-yard seasons, and he broke out during the team's Super Bowl run in 2016 with a career-high 38 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. Ryan is very good but not great, although he could be better in his second year with Steve Sarkisian running the offense. The soon-to-be 33-year-old is a solid QB1 for fantasy owners.

Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team is close to agreeing to a contract extension with franchise quarterback Matt Ryan. Dimitroff said "it's not a complicated process" and that "I think we're close." This comes as a surprise to no one. Ryan has reached the 4,000-yard passing mark in every season since 2011 and remains one of the best all-around passers in the NFL. In his second year in offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian's offense, Ryan should be better in 2018.
