Lions Release Bruce Ellington

The Detroit Lions released wide receiver Bruce Ellington, safety Glover Quinn and linebacker Nicholas Grigsby on Friday. Ellington signed with the Lions after they traded Golden Tate to the Eagles and became their slot receiver until he landed on Injured Reserve on Dec. 22. He had 23 catches for 132 yards in four games for Detroit. Ellington's best year came in 2017 with the Texans when he had 29 catches for 330 yards and two touchdowns. Wherever he signs, he'll battle for a roster spot in training camp.

Kenny Golladay, Bruce Ellington Limited

Detroit Lions wide receivers Kenny Golladay (chest) and Bruce Ellington (hamstring) were both limited in practice on Wednesday. Quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) also continues to be limited in practice. Golladay had one of his best games last week with seven catches for 146 yards in a loss. He'll face a stiffer test against Minnesota in Week 16 but remains one of the only players worth using in fantasy as a WR2. Ellington did not play last week and wasn't taking advantage of his targets before his injury, making him hard to trust in fantasy leagues. With Stafford having very few precious playmakers on offense, he's become a low-end QB2 to close out the year.

Kerryon Johnson, Bruce Ellington Out Against The Bills

Detroit Lions running back Kerryon Johnson (knee) is listed as "Out" for Sunday's game against the Bills, marking his fourth straight game missed. This will elevate LeGarrette Blount, Theo Riddick, and possibly Zach Zenner's status this week. Wide receiver Bruce Ellington (hamstring) is also going to miss the Week 15 road matchup with Buffalo. Ellington was injured in last week's win over the Cardinals and hasn't practiced all week, so it's not surprising he'll miss on Sunday. In his place, expect TJ Jones, Andy Jones, and even Brandon Powell to see more snaps.
