Alexander Wennberg a Game-Time Call Wednesday

San Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (upper body) has been labeled as a game-time decision for Wednesday's contest against the Washington Capitals, Max Miller of NHL.com reports. Wennberg centers the second line and the first power-play unit for the Sharks, averaging close to 21 minutes of ice time. He has posted 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 27 games. Losing Wennberg would be a tough blow for San Jose, but the team could have Jeff Skinner (lower body) and Michael Misa (lower body) available again. If neither player is cleared for action, Zack Ostapchuk will likely replace Wennberg in the lineup.

Alexander Wennberg Dishes Two Helpers In Victory

San Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg tallied two helpers during their shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday evening. The Sharks were down two goals in the third period but Wennberg was able to spark a comeback. In the final frame, Wennberg tallied two primary helpers, one on Jack Thompson's goal and the other on Tyler Toffoli's goal, which served as the game-tying goal. The Sharks would then complete the comeback by winning in the shootout. This outing extended Wennberg's point streak to three games. Over this stretch, he has tallied five helpers and has not found the back of the net. Through 57 total games, the 30-year-old has scored eight goals and added 20 helpers. He remains a viable option in deeper formats while he continues this productive stretch.

Alexander Wennberg Returns In Second-Line Role

San Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (upper body) will return from a four-game absence on Sunday against the Calgary Flames. The Sharks plan to use him alongside Fabian Zetterlund and Will Smith on the second line. Wennberg has averaged slightly below 0.5 points per game this season, boasting eight goals and 15 assists in 52 games. He has seen a lot of action as the third-line center, and a move up in the lineup may improve Wennberg's productivity on the offensive end. The Swedish forward is also expected to join the second power-play unit. On Sunday, Nico Sturm (lower body) will be another addition to the Sharks' attacking unit. He will skate on the third line after missing the previous eight games.

Alexander Wennberg Ruled Out For Third Straight Game

San Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (upper body) will miss a third straight game on Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks. According to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News, it's unclear if Wennberg will be ready to return on Saturday against the Dallas Stars, which means he could be sidelined for the entire week. Saturday will mark San Jose's final game before the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament break. With Wennberg unavailable, Andrew Poturalski saw top-six action on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens. However, the 31-year-old is not an attractive fantasy option, as Poturalski has tallied only two points in seven career games. He went scoreless on Tuesday with two shots on goal and a minus-one rating across 13:36 of action.

Alexander Wennberg Out On Thursday

San Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (upper body) will not be available for Thursday's matchup against the Seattle Kraken. He has sustained an upper-body injury, making Wennberg miss only his second game of the season. The Swedish centerman has performed reasonably well in a middle-six role, producing eight goals and 23 points in 52 games. Carl Grundstrom will replace Wennberg in the lineup, with Luke Kunin taking over his job as the third-line center. Grundstrom has gone scoreless 16 times in his past 17 appearances. He has notched five points (one goal, four assists) in 34 outings this season. Wennberg is considered day-to-day, so the Sharks should get him back relatively soon.

Alexander Wennberg Expected To Return To Action On Tuesday

San Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (illness) is expected to be back in the lineup on Tuesday against Detroit. Wennberg missed Saturday's matchup against Minnesota due to an illness, but Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said on Monday that Wennberg will travel to the game and should play in Tuesday's contest. Wennberg has slightly increased his productivity compared to last season, but he will likely still not break the 40-point barrier, which he has done twice in his career. Through 44 outings, the Swedish veteran has notched eight goals and 20 points. He usually works as the third-line center for San Jose.

Alexander Wennberg Unavailable Saturday

San Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (illness) will not play against Minnesota on Saturday. He's forced to skip his first game of the season after catching an illness bug. Wennberg has contributed eight goals and 12 assists in 44 games while working as a middle-six forward. Nikolai Kovalenko (upper body) and Klim Kostin (lower body) are also out on Saturday, meaning the Sharks attack will have a different look. Luke Kunin is expected to replace Wennberg as the third-line center, while Collin Graf will jump on the second line. The 22-year-old has notched two assists through his first four appearances of the season this month.

Alexander Wennberg Ends Goal Drought With Game-Winner In Overtime

New York Rangers center Alexander Wennberg gave the team a 5-4 overtime win in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final against Florida on Sunday. The 29-year-old found a perfect time to end a 24-game goal-scoring slump, giving the Rangers a 5-4 victory and a 2-1 series lead with 5:35 played in overtime. This is only the second postseason point of the year for Wennberg, who contributed an assist in Game 2 against Carolina in the second-round series. Combined with the regular season, the Swedish centerman has tallied only seven points (two goals, five assists) in 32 games with the Rangers. But the team won't complain if he contributes in key moments.

Alexander Wennberg Misses Saturday's Action

Seattle Kraken forward Alexander Wennberg will miss Saturday's game against Montreal with an upper-body injury. He was hurt in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to Ottawa and has to drop out of the lineup after enjoying one of his best spells of the season. Wennberg had scored in three of four games heading into Thursday. Kole Lind is set to enter the lineup on Saturday and will join Jaden Schwartz and Jared McCann on the first line. The 23-year-old has collected a pair of assists in five NHL outings this season and sits on 35 points through 48 games in the AHL.

Alexander Wennberg Inks Contract With Kraken

Unrestricted free agent Alexander Wennberg signed a three-year contract with the expansion Seattle Kraken on Wednesday. The contract comes with a $4.5 million AAV. The 26-year-old native of Sweden is coming off of a modest season with the Florida Panthers. Wennberg scored 17 goals but had just 29 total points in 56 games. He's failed to break the 30-point mark over the past three years. The former first-round pick's best season came in 2016-17 with the Columbus Blue Jackets when he scored 16 goals and recorded 59 points. Wennberg should receive an opportunity to center the top line at least while Yanni Gourde is recovering from offseason surgery. A return to power-play prominence could also help him recoup some of his lost fantasy value.

Alexander Wennberg Scores Three Goals Versus Columbus

Florida Panthers center Alexander Wennberg recorded a hat trick as his team pulled out a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. Coming into Saturday's contest versus his former team, the 26-year-old had already surpassed his combined goal total (7) in 132 games over the past two seasons with Columbus and is now just two goals away from tying his career-best 13 tallies (in 80 games) from 2016-2017. Wennberg has been a nice fit in Florida's top-six forward group this season, making himself a valuable asset in deeper fantasy formats for the first time in four years. With 18 points (11 goals, seven assists), a plus-four rating, 51 shots and 15 hits through 38 games, Wennberg (11% owned in Yahoo! leagues) probably needs to be owned in more fantasy leagues by now.

Alexander Wennberg Takes Goal Streak To Three Games

Florida Panthers forward Alexander Wennberg extended his goal streak to three games on Thursday, netting the team's second marker of the night in a 5-2 win over Tampa. He also tallied an assist on a Carter Verhaeghe goal. Aaron Ekblad joined Wennberg in the two-point club with a power-play goal and an assist. Frank Vatrano and Brett Connolly finished off the goal-fest. Wennberg, who has six points in 11 games for the year, plays on a hot line with Jonathan Huberdeau and Patric Hornqvist, so he was bound to break out at some point. He'll try and continue his goal-scoring streak on Saturday in a rematch with the Bolts.
