William Eklund Out 10-12 Weeks After Ankle Surgery

Ottawa Senators winger William Eklund (ankle) underwent surgery and will be out for 10-12 weeks. Senators head coach Travis Green provided the update before Thursday's matchup with the Islanders. Eklund's absence is a big blow for Ottawa's top six. With Eklund sidelined, Stephen Halliday has seen time on the first line. He had points in back-to-back games before going scoreless on Thursday. Players like Warren Foegele and Fabian Zetterlund could also receive some top-line usage until Eklund returns. Unfortunately, we may not see him back in action until 2027.

William Eklund to Be Out for "Extended" Period of Time

Ottawa Senators winger William Eklund (ankle) will be out for an "extended" period of time, head coach Travis Green said on Friday. The 23-year-old injured his left ankle in Thursday's win over Philadelphia. Eklund has contributed one goal and one assist in his first four appearances as a Senator. The good news for Ottawa is that Andre Burakovsky (upper body) participated in an optional practice on Friday and could be ready to make his season debut soon. Burakovsky would be a good fit in the top six as Eklund's replacement.

William Eklund Suffers Lower-Body Injury Against Flyers

Ottawa Senators winger William Eklund (lower body) was limited to 1:24 of ice time in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Swedish forward appeared to injure his left leg after a hit from Flyers defenseman Samuel Benoit. Senators head coach Travis Green didn't have an update on Eklund postgame. Eklund has opened the season with two points (one goal, one assist) in four games. Warren Foegele and Michael Amadio are candidates to move up in the lineup if Eklund isn't healthy enough to play in Saturday's matchup with Nashville.

William Eklund Moves to Ottawa

The Ottawa Senators have acquired winger William Eklund from the San Jose Sharks. The team gave up the ninth-overall pick in Friday's draft in exchange for Eklund, forward Kasper Halttunen, and forward prospect Brandon Svoboda. The Senators obtained the pick from the Florida Panthers in the Brady Tkachuk trade. Eklund should be Tkachuk's direct replacement in the top six. San Jose traded Eklund just a year after signing him to a $16.8 million contract extension. He is coming off back-to-back 50-point campaigns. In 2025-26, Eklund recorded 53 points (15 goals, 38 assists) and 72 hits in 78 games.

William Eklund Questionable to Play Thursday

San Jose Sharks winger William Eklund (lower body) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Boston Bruins, Max Miller of NHL.com reports. The talented forward has a lower-body injury and didn't practice on Wednesday. Eklund has been the fifth-highest scoring Shark this season, posting 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in 58 games. However, he also carries a team-worst minus-26 rating, showing the 23-year-old has struggled during even-strength situations. Eklund's health issues could allow Pavol Regenda to rejoin the lineup. Regenda has scored eight goals in 18 appearances this season but has been used very sparingly in recent weeks.

William Eklund Could Be an Option Tuesday

San Jose Sharks winger William Eklund (lower body) has traveled with the team and could be ready to return to action on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The Swedish offensive talent has sat out four games due to a lower-body injury. Eklund has overcome a slow start to the season to register nine points (four goals, five assists) across his past six outings. Overall, he has managed five goals and 11 points in 12 games. If Eklund returns to the lineup, Collin Graf will likely need to give up his spot on the second line.

William Eklund Moved to Injured Reserve

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (lower body) was placed on Injured Reserve on Friday and will miss a third consecutive game against the Winnipeg Jets. In a corresponding move, San Jose activated Ryan Reaves (lower body) from Injured Reserve. Eklund, who has amassed 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 12 games, will also sit out Saturday's clash against the Florida Panthers. Collin Graf is expected to take Eklund's place in the top six for Friday's contest. Graf had a short-handed assist in Wednesday's 6-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken, but he has struggled with consistent offensive production, totaling four points (one goal and three assists) in 13 games this season.

William Eklund to Remain Out Wednesday

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (lower body) will be unavailable for a second consecutive game on Wednesday against the Seattle Kraken, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The Swedish forward has boosted his scoring rate lately, becoming one of the leading figures in attack. Only Macklin Celebrini (18) has recorded more points than Eklund (11) with the Sharks this season. Eklund has produced five goals and six assists in 12 appearances. Adam Gaudette (upper body), who has missed four games, could be Eklund's replacement in the lineup on Wednesday. Due to his limited skillset, Gaudette doesn't have much fantasy value, but he could generate interest in some formats if he steps into a top-six role during Eklund's absence.

William Eklund Has Three Points in Sunday's Win

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund collected three points as the team beat the Minnesota Wild 6-5 in overtime on Sunday. Eklund started the scoring spree in the contest with a power-play goal and also tallied San Jose's third goal of the night. He completed his three-point effort with an assist on Tyler Toffoli's power-play goal in the third period. After a very quiet start to the season, Eklund has suddenly burst into life, amassing seven points (three goals, four assists) over the past three games. He's had nine points (four goals, five assists) in nine games across the entire campaign. Now that San Jose's offense is clicking, Eklund is in a great spot to keep putting points on the board.

William Eklund Back at 100 Percent in Training Camp

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (wrist) said on Thursday that he's back at 100 percent ahead of the new season. The 22-year-old had offseason surgery after injuring his wrist in early May while playing for Sweden ahead of the World Championship. Eklund has become a key part of the Sharks offense and notched 58 points (17 goals, 41 assists) in 77 games during his sophomore campaign last term. He'll look to make further progress this season, surrounded by other promising offensive talents like Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith.

William Eklund Skates With Sharks

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (wrist) was on the ice for an informal skate on Monday. According to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, Eklund worked "without obvious limitation." This is a good sign that Eklund will be ready for the start of the season. The Swedish winger suffered a nasty wrist laceration in the spring during a pre-tournament game ahead of the World Championship. He underwent surgery and was ruled out for three months. Eklund, who signed a three-year, $16.8 million extension during the summer, finished his second NHL campaign with 58 points (17 goals, 41 assists) in 77 contests. He's an exciting talent, and Eklund's fantasy value will likely continue to grow in 2025-26.

William Eklund Signs Three-Year Extension with Sharks

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund has secured a three-year contract extension. He was handed a $16.8 million deal that will begin with the 2026-27 season. The Swedish forward has just finished his second season in the NHL, recording 58 points (17 goals, 41 assists) in 77 games. He's only 22 years old and has plenty of untapped potential. Fantasy managers should keep Eklund on their radar, as he is likely to continue playing a key role for a rebuilding Sharks team.

William Eklund Undergoes Wrist Surgery

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (wrist) underwent surgery on Monday and is expected to be out for approximately three months. Eklund was involved in a scary incident over the weekend when his right wrist was cut by a skate during an exhibition game with Team Sweden. Unfortunately for Eklund, the injury means he will not be able to represent Sweden at the upcoming World Championships, but he will be good to go for the start of the next NHL season. The Sharks expect big things from Eklund, who pushed his career highs to 17 goals, 41 assists, and 58 points in 77 appearances this term.

William Eklund Suffers Cut Wrist

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund suffered a cut to his wrist while playing for his native Sweden. In a contest against Czechia, it appeared that Eklund was cut on the left wrist by the skate of Vancouver Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek. He was taken to the hospital, and Eklund's agent, Todd Diamond, provided an encouraging update to San Jose Hockey Now. "He's stable," Diamond said. "Looks like it didn't cut key tendons or nerves at the moment." Eklund has been preparing for the World Championships with Team Sweden, but it seems he may be forced to miss the tournament due to the injury. Playing with the Sharks, Eklund enjoyed a career year in 2024-25, accumulating 58 points (17 goals, 41 assists) in 77 games. He is only 22 and is seen as a big part of San Jose's future.

William Eklund Ruled Out For Thursday

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (upper body) will remain absent for Thursday's meeting with Tampa Bay. Eklund sustained an upper-body injury against Vancouver on Dec. 23 and is forced to miss a fourth consecutive contest. Klim Kostin has received top-six usage during Eklund's unavailability but has recorded zero points with zero shots in two games since returning from an upper-body injury. Kostin's work, in general, has left a lot to be desired this season, as the Russian forward has posted just four points (one goal, three assists) in 22 appearances.

William Eklund To Miss Third Straight Game On Tuesday

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (upper body) will not be in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup against Philadelphia. The talented winger has returned to the ice but isn't yet ready for game action, missing a third consecutive contest. Eklund is tied for the second-most points on the team with 27 (seven goals, 20 assists). With him missing, Klim Kostin will work in a top-six role, with Nikolai Kovalenko possibly also getting extra usage. He will replace Carl Grundstrom (upper body) in the lineup. Eklund's next opportunity to return will come on Thursday versus Tampa Bay.

William Eklund Will Not Play On Friday

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (undisclosed) will drop out of the lineup on Friday versus Vegas. He was injured in Monday's matchup against Vancouver and needs more time to recover. The 22-year-old is considered day-to-day. Eklund has been San Jose's second-highest scorer this season, registering 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) in 36 outings. With his absence on Friday, Barclay Goodrow will get a look on the first line. Goodrow is having a difficult campaign with the Sharks, sporting only three points (two goals, one assist) through 32 appearances with a minus-17 rating.

William Eklund A Game-Time Call For Saturday

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund (undisclosed) has been labeled as a game-time call for Saturday's matchup against Buffalo. The 22-year-old would be a big loss for the Sharks, as Eklund has enjoyed his best spell of the season lately. He has tallied seven points (two goals, five assists) in six games. Only Mikael Granlund (24) has scored more points on the Sharks roster than Eklund (16) in 2024-25. Will Smith will return to the lineup on Saturday and might see extra action because of Eklund's absence.

William Eklund Scores Twice In Overtime Victory

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund provided two goals in Monday's 5-4 overtime win against Detroit. He squeezed a power-play marker between two Red Wings strikes in the first period and tied the game at two during even-strength play in the second. Eklund was highly efficient in front of the net, bagging his two goals with only three shots on goal. The Sharks have looked much better in recent weeks, and it's helped Eklund to heat up. He finds himself on a four-game point streak that consists of two goals and four assists. For the season overall, Eklund has registered 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 19 outings. He is well on his way to surpassing the 45 points he had during his rookie campaign last year.

William Eklund Returns With A Power-Play Goal

San Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund scored a power-play goal in his return to the lineup on Sunday versus Colorado. He returned to work following a one-game absence with an upper-body injury. Eklund scored his first goal of the season late in the first period, but it ended up being the Sharks' lone marker as they couldn't hang with the Avalanche in a 4-1 loss. While working over four minutes on the power play, Eklund ended up logging 18:59 of ice time. It was a slow start to the campaign for the Swede, but he has now collected three points (one goal, two assists) in his past two appearances.
