Auston Matthews Strikes Twice Against Predators

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews helped the team defeat Nashville 3-2 with a two-goal effort on Wednesday. He scored twice inside two minutes at the start of the second period to put Toronto up 2-1. Matthews recorded his 34th career multi-goal period, which is only one short of Jeremy Roenick's record among U.S.-born players. After missing nine games because of an upper-body injury, the Maple Leafs star has started to make up for lost time. In three outings since returning to the lineup, Matthews has posted three goals and two assists. He's now up to 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) for the campaign with the same number of games played.

Auston Matthews Tallies Two Assists In Return

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews tallied two helpers in his return on Saturday evening. The captain missed the previous nine contests with an upper-body injury. However, the superstar looked sharp in his return, tallying two points to lead Toronto to victory. His first assist came on the opening goal by Matthew Knies. Later in the third, Matthews would register the primary assist on William Nylander's empty-net goal to clinch the victory. Before his injury, Matthews tallied five goals and six helpers across 13 games with four power-play points. Fantasy managers should expect the former top overall pick to remain a fantasy star for the remainder of the season, especially from a scoring standpoint, playing on the top unit alongside Matthew Knies and William Nylander.

Auston Matthews To Return To Maple Leafs Lineup Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) will return to the lineup on Saturday versus Tampa Bay. The three-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner has been out for nine games but feels now ready to return. "In my mind, I'm playing tomorrow and I'm excited to be back," Matthews said. "I didn't forget how to play hockey over the last three weeks but obviously there's going to be a little bit of rust and a little bit of excitement to be back and playing again." Matthews, who sits on five goals and six assists with 13 games played, is expected to team up with Matthew Knies and William Nylander on the top line Saturday.

Auston Matthews Remains Out On Wednesday

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) will miss a ninth consecutive game on Wednesday versus Florida. Matthews returned to full practice on Tuesday, and there was a chance he might be ready to re-enter the lineup. However, he will end up sitting out one more game. It's likely Matthews will be back in action on Saturday against Tampa Bay. The injury-hit Maple Leafs will continue to use Pontus Holmberg as the second-line center against the Panthers. Nicholas Robertson and Bobby McCann also currently hold top-six roles.

Auston Matthews Could Be Ready For Action On Wednesday

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) might return to the lineup on Wednesday against Florida. After missing eight games with an upper-body injury, Matthews came through his first full practice on Tuesday. "I felt pretty good, so we will just take it step by step," the star forward said following practice. "I don't know, we'll see. I'll get with the training staff and chat some more. The individual skates are much different than a team practice, so this being the first actual team practice I skated in, I felt really good." Matthews worked on a line with Pontus Holmberg and William Nylander. He would make a timely return to help a team affected by injuries. Max Domi (lower body) has been ruled out for at least two more games, with Matthew Knies (upper body), David Kampf (lower body), Max Pacioretty (lower body), and Calle Jarnkrok (groin) also on the shelf.

Auston Matthews May Return To Maple Leafs Lineup Next Week

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) is progressing and might be ready to rejoin the lineup next week. Matthews skated on Saturday morning, making another step towards his return. The Maple Leafs star has sat out seven games because of an upper-body problem. Matthews, who recently traveled to Germany for consultation on his injury, said on Saturday that he is "feeling a lot better." He added that it's "possible" he might make his comeback on Wednesday versus Florida. Matthews has totaled five goals and 11 points in 13 games this season.

Auston Matthews Ruled Out For Another Week

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) is expected to miss at least one more week of action. He hasn't played since Nov. 3 due to an upper-body injury, sitting out six games. Matthews exited the lineup after notching five goals and 11 points in 13 contests. His injury has allowed Max Domi to cement a top-six spot, but he is having a really tough time. Domi hasn't scored a single goal this season and last added to his points tally nearly a month ago, in a 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Oct. 21. The Maple Leafs have still somehow gone 5-1-0 during Matthews' absence, averaging 3.17 goals.

Auston Matthews Placed On Injured Reserve

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) has been placed on Injured Reserve, retroactive to Nov. 3. Matthews will be out for at least this weekend's games due to an upper-body injury but could return next week if things go well for him. He has not skated since Sunday, so it is unsurprising that he won't play this weekend. The Leafs will likely use an abundance of caution with their superstar, so he likely won't play until he is at 100%. Max Domi should take Matthews' place on the first line for as long as he remains out.

Auston Matthews' Status Up In The Air

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) did not skate on Thursday and remains day-to-day heading into the weekend. Matthews did not play on Tuesday due to an upper-body injury, and coach Craig Berube said he isn't sure if Matthews will be ready to go for the Leafs' back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. It seems reasonable that the team would be careful with their superstar, so if Matthews needs a few more days to get fully healthy, they will likely give it to him. Expect Max Domi to center the first line if Matthews can't go, which would make the former a solid weekend streamer in fantasy.

Auston Matthews Out On Tuesday

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) will miss Tuesday's game against Boston. Toronto's star forward is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Max Domi is set to take over the first-line center role on Tuesday. Domi has gone seven straight games without registering any points, but he will have a good opportunity to end the drought on Tuesday. He will skate with Toronto's top scorer, Mitch Marner, who is on a five-game point streak. Matthew Knies, who ranks second on the team with six goals, completes the top-line trio.

Auston Matthews Bags First Points Of The Season

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews finally opened his scoring account for the season on Wednesday, finishing a 6-2 victory with one goal and two assists. He scored in an even-strength situation in the first period before bagging two power-play assists. Matthews' work across 18 minutes also included four shots and one block. The new Maple Leafs captain has set such high standards for himself that there may have been more than a few nervous fantasy managers following his modest start to the season. However, it was only a matter of time before he came alive, and the rest of the league now has a reason to worry.

Auston Matthews Dealing With Minor Upper-Body Injury

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews left Tuesday's practice early with an upper-body injury. However, according to Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube, the injury isn't anything serious. The Maple Leafs fans and fantasy managers who are banking on Matthews to have another big season can breathe a sigh of relief. Matthews enjoyed a career year in 2023-24 with 69 goals and 107 points and has started the new campaign off on the right foot as well, scoring in his preseason debut on Saturday against Ottawa.

Auston Matthews Uncertain For Game 7

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews' status for Game 7 of the team's first-round series against the Boston Bruins remains uncertain as he deals with an illness. The star pivot has missed the past two games but the Leafs have managed to reel off back-to-back victories to force a series-deciding Game 7 on Saturday in Boston. "Yeah, there's been progress, he skated again here today but no determination on his availability," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said. Matthews paced the league with 69 goals during the regular season while adding 38 assists for 107 points and 369 shots on goal across 81 games.

Auston Matthews Out For Game 6

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (illness) will not be in the lineup for Game 6 of the team's first-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins on Thursday. The star pivot missed Game 5 due to an illness, and it appears the issue will keep the 26-year-old out again on Thursday. Matthews notched a goal and two assists in a Game 2 win but has otherwise been held off the scoresheet in his other three games played in the series. The Maple Leafs need another win in Game 6 to avoid elimination, as the Bruins lead 3-2 in the series. If Toronto manages to win, Game 7 would be on Saturday in Boston.

Auston Matthews A Game-Time Decision Tuesday

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (illness) is a game-time decision for Tuesday's Game 5 contest against the Boston Bruins. The superstar has been dealing with an illness that forced him out of the third period of Saturday's 3-1 Game 4 loss. "Obviously he was on the ice today, so he's working through things to try to make himself available to play," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said. "No determination at this time." The head coach declined to answer when asked if there is something else other than the illness bothering Matthews. Matthews led the league with 69 regular-season goals but has just a single tally through the first four games of this series.

Auston Matthews Uncertain For Game 5

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews' status for Game 5 of the team's first-round series against the Boston Bruins is up in the air as the pivot continues to deal with an illness. Matthews has played through the issue for the last two games but was pulled by team doctors prior to the third period of Saturday's Game 4 loss. The Maple Leafs now trail the Bruins 3-1 in the series with Game 5 set to go Tuesday in Boston. "Not much of an update there (but) luckily, again, we've got a couple of days here," head coach Sheldon Keefe said on Sunday. "We thought the last couple of days would help us. For whatever reason it's not one of those run-of-the-mill, everyday type of illnesses that sort of come and go." The superstar has three point through the first four games of the series.

Auston Matthews Dealing With Illness

Toronto Maple Leafs center is dealing with an illness that has hampered his performance over the last two games of the team's first-round playoff series with the Boston Bruins. Head coach Sheldon Keefe provided an update on Matthews on Sunday. "For whatever reason, it's not one of those everyday types of illnesses that sort of come and go. This one has lingered and the effects have lingered and gotten worse when he's on the ice asserting himself," Keefe said. Matthews didn't return for the third period of Game 4's 3-1 loss. The superstar has been held off the scoresheet over the last two games and in three of the four games this season following a regular season that saw him tally a hefty 69 goals and 107 points.

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews was on the ice for Saturday's morning skate ahead of Game 4 of the team's first-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins. Matthews led the charge with a game-winning goal and two assists in a Game 2 win on Monday but has been held off the scoresheet in two of the first three games of this series. The 26-year-old enjoyed a historical regular season that included 69 goals and 107 points on 369 shots on goal across 81 games. Auston Matthews Puts Away Game-Winner In Game 2

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews scored the game-winning goal and added a pair of assists in a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins in Game 2 of their first-round series. Matthews dominated this one, adding eight shots and six hits to round out his stat line. He was sprung on a breakaway by Max Domi late in the third and put a sweet move on Boston goalie Linus Ullmark before tucking away the tie-breaking goal. If the Leafs are going to go far in the playoffs for once, they'll need Matthews to continue to be the game-breaker that he was in this game.

Auston Matthews Fails To Score Goal No. 70 Wednesday

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews was unable to reach the 70-goal plateau in the club's series finale on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The superstar entered the game with 69 goals and 357 shots on goal, and even hit a crossbar, but he was unable to be the first 70-goal scorer in 31 years. The 26-year-old ends his regular season with 69 goals and 107 points across 81 games while adding 89 hits, 91 blocks, and a plus-32 rating to his ledger. The Maple Leafs are locked into a first-round matchup with the No. 2 seed Boston Bruins in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, which starts Saturday at the TD Garden in Boston.
