Jake McCabe Suffers Upper-Body Injury

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (upper body) was forced to exit Saturday's matchup against the Montreal Canadiens early after being struck by a puck. He finished the night with two shots, two blocks, one hit, and two penalty minutes across 12:37 of action. The Maple Leafs get a few off nights, giving McCabe recovery time, but he will miss his first game of the season if he isn't feeling ready to play on Wednesday versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 22 outings, McCabe has made an impact on both ends of the ice, registering 10 points (three goals, seven assists), 49 shots, 53 blocks, and 30 hits. Philippe Myers is in line to jump into the lineup if McCabe has to miss time.

Jake McCabe Available For Sunday's Game 1

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (upper body) is poised to re-enter the lineup for Game 1 against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. Due to an upper-body injury, McCabe could not play in the final seven regular-season games. McCabe has enjoyed a highly effective campaign in 2024-25, recording 23 points (two goals, 21 assists) in 66 appearances, along with 135 blocks, 118 hits, and a plus-23 rating. In Saturday's practice, McCabe partnered with Chris Tanev on the second defensive pairing. The Maple Leafs defense may also see Oliver Ekman-Larsson (upper body) return on Sunday. The Swedish blue-liner was present in Saturday's practice after sitting out four games at the end of the regular season.

Jake McCabe Ruled Out For Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (undisclosed) will withdraw from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was injured Wednesday night against the Florida Panthers and will be unavailable for at least one game due to an unspecified ailment. Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube considers McCabe day-to-day. The 31-year-old is second on the team with 135 blocks and fourth with 118 hits. He also sometimes chips in offensively, boasting 23 points (two goals, 21 assists) through 66 appearances. Philippe Myers, who has registered four points (one goal, three assists), 34 blocks, and 66 hits in 29 appearances, is set to fill in for McCabe on the third defensive pairing.

Jake McCabe Suffers Injury On Wednesday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (undisclosed) exited Wednesday's contest against the Florida Panthers early with an undisclosed injury. After the contest, head coach Craig Berube did not provide an update on his status. McCabe suffered this injury towards the end of the final frame as he logged over 24 minutes of ice time and tallied one helper with three hits. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Saturday evening against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Over his past seven contests, McCabe has tallied six helpers, held a +1 rating, and logged 12 hits and 14 blocked shots. Through 66 total games, McCabe has logged an impressive 118 hits and 135 blocks with 23 total points.

Jake McCabe Exits Early On Sunday

According to the team, Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (upper body) exited early during Sunday's overtime victory against the Philadelphia Flyers. McCabe appeared to have sustained the injury late in the opening frame. Before exiting, the 31-year-old tallied one hit with seven penalty minutes. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the time being. McCabe has been typically deployed on the second pairing alongside Chris Tanev. While he has only tallied 11 points through 36 games, he has provided strong value in deeper category formats as he has tallied 32 penalty minutes, 72 hits and 68 blocks. If McCabe were unable to play Tuesday evening, Connor Timmins will likely draw into the starting lineup.

Jake McCabe Available On Thursday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (upper body) is ready to rejoin the action on Thursday against Anaheim. Following a five-game absence, he has been activated from Injured Reserve. McCabe sits second on the team with 46 blocks and has delivered 52 hits in 23 games, but he's made very little impact offensively. The 31-year-old has five points with zero goals scored, going scoreless in 11 consecutive appearances. Philippe Myers will come out of the lineup to make room for McCabe.

Jake McCabe Misses Second Straight Game On Wednesday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (upper body) will remain sidelined on Wednesday against Nashville. McCabe missed his first game of the season on Monday versus Chicago after a puck hit him in the side of the head in Saturday's matchup against Tampa Bay. Philippe Myers stepped into the lineup as McCabe's replacement. Myers performed well in Monday's 4-1 win, as he recorded an assist with four shots, one block, and seven hits, but fantasy managers should not expect a repeat of the performance on Wednesday. Myers hasn't previously been productive at this level.

Jake McCabe Out On Monday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (upper body) will miss Monday's contest against Chicago. The 31-year-old was hit up high by a puck in Saturday's 5-3 win over Tampa Bay and will sit out Monday's game for precautionary reasons. McCabe comes out of the lineup for the first time this season. He's been quietly effective for the Maple Leafs, registering a team-best plus-11 rating across 23 games, with five assists, 20 shots, 46 blocks, and 52 hits. Philippe Myers will step into the lineup as McCabe's replacement, making only his second appearance of the season. Myers has notched 36 points (eight goals, 28 assists) in 159 career outings in the NHL.

Jake McCabe Signs Five-Year Extension With Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe signed a five-year extension on Monday. He will earn $22.55 million with the deal. McCabe's current contract is worth $16 million across four years. The 31-year-old is ranked second on the team in blocks and hits this season, with 17 and 19, respectively. Offensively, he has contributed three assists with seven shots on goal. Last season, McCabe notched a career-high 28 points (eight goals, 20 assists) in 73 games while delivering 219 hits and blocking 129 shots. McCabe's two-way ability makes him a useful fantasy piece in many formats.

Jake McCabe Sitting Out In Preseason Finale, Labeled As Day-To-Day

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (upper body) will not play in the preseason finale on Saturday evening and remains day-to-day heading into the opening week of the season, according to Nick Barden of TNH Toronto. McCabe sat out during Friday's skate and is now in danger of missing the season opener on Wednesday evening. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as he should be in line to slot in on the second defensive pair. Last season, McCabe tallied a career-high eight goals and 28 points. McCabe remains a solid pick late in drafts in category leagues that score hits and blocked shots, as he logged over 200 hits for the first time in his career last season, along with a solid 129 blocks.

Jake McCabe To Sit Out On Thursday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe will sit out on Thursday against the New Jersey Devils due to maintenance. The Leafs' blueline has been ravaged with injuries throughout the season but McCabe has largely been healthy throughout the campaign, appearing in 71 games to this point. He has tallied a career-high eight goals and 28 points in that time while averaging a career-high 20:44 of ice time per game. He has added a whopping 213 hits, 125 blocked shots, 54 penalty minutes, and a plus-19 rating to his ledger. He scored the overtime winner in a 3-2 triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday.

Jake McCabe Returning To Lineup, John Klingberg Dealing With Injury

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (groin) will return to the lineup on Friday against the Calgary Flames. McCabe missed the last six games with a groin injury suffered on October 26. His return comes at a good time for the Leafs, as John Klingberg is dealing with an undisclosed injury and won't play tonight. Klingberg was seeing time on the top powerplay unit, so Morgan Rielly is likely the beneficiary of his absence. As for McCabe, he will slide into the second pairing next to Mark Giordano and will likely see a lot of minutes with the Leafs beat up on the back end.

Jake McCabe Returns To Practice On Sunday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (groin) rejoined the team in practice on Sunday. He hasn't been able to work with his teammates since injuring his groin on Oct. 26 in a game against the Stars. The injury has resulted in McCabe missing four contests. Toronto has lost every game since McCabe's injury and could really use him back in the lineup after allowing four goals per game during the slide and losing Timothy Liljegren (anke) from defense. McCabe joined John Klingberg on the second defensive pairing in practice, and he could be back in action Monday against the Lightning.

Jake McCabe To Remain Out On Thursday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (groin) has been ruled out for Thursday's matchup against Boston. He has already been on the shelf for two games, and Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe has said that it's also "unlikely" McCabe can return at the weekend when there's a meeting with Buffalo scheduled for Saturday. The Maple Leafs will mostly miss McCabe's physicality. He hasn't tallied any points in seven appearances this season but boasts 12 hits with nine blocked shots. William Lagesson has entered the lineup in his absence, although he's been very quiet in the two games he's played, recording one shot, one block, and two hits while averaging 11:05 of ice time.

Jake McCabe Out On Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe (groin) won't play on Saturday against Nashville. He was injured last time out against Dallas, and while tests have shown that McCabe won't have to miss significant time, he will have to sit out Saturday's contest. The 30-year-old has had a very slow start to the campaign, going scoreless in seven outings with a minus-four rating. William Lagesson is set to make his season debut in McCabe's absence Saturday, joining John Klingberg on the third defensive pairing.

Jake McCabe Lands In Toronto

The Toronto Maple Leafs have added defenseman Jake McCabe to the roster, picking him up in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks. Toronto also added forward Sam Lafferty and a couple of conditional fifth-round draft picks in the deal, while sending a conditional first-round pick in 2025, a second-round pick in 2026, and forwards Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev back to Chicago. Jake McCabe is on his way to having a career year in 2022-23, having registered 20 points across 55 outings. He has also racked up hits and blocks for fun, posting 122 hits and blocking 115 shots. McCabe has shown further quality by logging a plus-seven rating while averaging nearly 20 minutes of ice time on a bad team. He's the only Blackhawks regular with a positive plus/minus for the campaign. Following McCabe's addition, Rasmus Sandin's spot could be in danger on the Maple Leafs blue line.

Jake McCabe Set For Season Debut

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Jake McCabe (neck) will make his season debut on Friday against Detroit. The 29-year-old was medically cleared earlier in the week after recovering from cervical spine surgery and he will team up with Caleb Jones on the third defensive pairing. McCabe had his best NHL season last year with 22 points in 78 games with the Blackhawks. He's a good puck-moving defenseman who can make plays on the offensive end, but McCabe doesn't do enough to warrant a roster spot in fantasy hockey.

Jake McCabe Set To Miss Up To Eight Months

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe will be out for six to eight months, the team announced on Monday. The 27-year-old blueliner left Saturday's 3-2 win over New Jersey and has now been diagnosed with injuries to his ACL, MCL, and meniscus in the right knee. McCabe managed three points in 13 games with a plus-two rating before suffering the injury. Henri Jokiharju is set to come in for him on Monday versus the Islanders. The 21-year-old has only one point in 10 games for the Sabres this year with a minus-four rating, but he's a nice puck-mover who has some offensive upside, and he should improve his numbers quite a bit.
